  1. I've read about some changes in the entertainment on HAL. Is is safe to say that there will be some show taking place in the main theater each evening at 8 & 10 when we are on the NA in a few weeks?
  2. Anyone out there have pictures of this suite? I've heard conflicting stories about the aft suites being smaller or having weird furniture arrangements. I guess pictures of any of the other decks aft Neptune suites would also answer this question. Thanks!
  3. My husband and I will be cruising on May 10 on the Western Mediterranean. Does anyone have any recommendations for excursions at any of the ports?
  4. We’re contemplating a fall 2020 transatlantic cruise on the Nieuw Amsterdam in an aft-facing cabin when the new itineraries come out and we are interested in hearing from folks that have sailed on a HAL transatlantic cruise in the past year or two. We are in our mid 60s and enjoy lectures, playing trivia, walking laps around the promenade and pretty much having organized fun on sea days. Also, do the cabins sill have DVD players? During slow times and in the evening after the show, as we don’t really like hanging out in the various lounges, we also bring along some dvds t
  5. So as I began contemplating a last minute Alaskan cruise this year, the limited selection (especially for cabins) at the last minute had me looking at cruises for next Summer. I was planning to take the Nieuw Amsterdam (as we did last year), BUT it is being replaced by the Koningsdam. Last year we had a Signature Suite on the Nieuw Amsterdam and, of course, I started by looking at those. As some other threads here on CC have pointed out there are VERY few Signature Suites on the Koningsdam, which was surprising to me. However, as I began to compare the online videos of the vario
  6. Eurodam and Nieuw Amsterdam will be spending Labor Day in Juneau. Eurodam will be at the AS dock from 1300-2300 and Nieuw Amsterdam at the CT dock from 1300-2200. Also in port are Ruby Princess at the FKL dock from 1100-2215 and Solstice at the AJ dock from 1330-2200. Typical Juneau weather is back for this week with mostly cloudy skies and a good chance of rain each day. The prediction for Monday is for overcast skies with some showers. High will only be 55F/13C and the low 51F/10C. Sunrise is at 5:59 am and sunset at 7:55 pm. The PTZtv webcam can be fo
  7. The Signature Sisters are making their last visit to Juneau this season. Eurodam will be at the AS dock from 1300-2200. She will be headed to Hawaii and the Mexican Riviera before heading to FLL on November 16. Nieuw Amsterdam will be at the CT dock from 1300-2200. She will be leaving for FLL on September 28. NA will spend the summer of 2020 in Europe. Also in port are Carnival Legend at the FKL dock from 0700-1600 and Norwegian Joy at the AJ dock from 1500-2300. It will not be a very nice day for those visiting Juneau on Monday. The high will be 53F/12C and the l
  8. Is anyone familiar with this suite? It's one of the last available and we weren't sure about it's aft location. The concern is noise from above or below, ease of getting on/off for excursions. Thanks!
  9. Hi I am a new cruiser with Holland America and would like to know if when dining at the Tamarind what the the $25 flat rate covers ? Is it 1 appetiser, 1 entree and 1 dessert? Or are you able to try more than 1 dish in each category? Many thanks M
  10. We previously sailed on the Amsterdam and spent many evenings in the Crow's Nest Bar. We booked on the Nieuw Amsterdam for Thanksgiving, so I was browsing photos of the ship. Did they turn the Crow's Nest into the Explorations Cafe? Is there no longer a bar up there???
  11. Just checking about drinking water available on the NA. Is there a place on board that has water for filling water bottles other than the tap in the nearest sink?
  12. Does anyone know if there are charging USB ports in the nightstands on the Nieuw Amsterdam? I thought I saw this somewhere but not I'm having a hard time using the search function within the boards. Thanks!
  13. My wife and I sailed on the August 31 Nieuw Amsterdam Alaska cruise, roundtrip from Vancouver with visits to Tracy Arm Inlet/Juneau, Skagway, Glacier Bay, and Ketchikan. I'm not writing a full review, but I wanted to share some notes and impressions from the cruise. This was not our first Alaska cruise. My wife and I took one on Princess in 2002, and I did two previous Alaska cruises in the 90's, one on Celebrity and the other on RCCL. I've been on many cruises but only once on HAL, and that was almost 25 years ago. It was the first time on HAL for my wife. EMBARKATION

Also in port are Ruby Princess at the FKL dock from 1100-2215 and Solstice at the AJ dock from 1330-2200. The nice weather continues for a couple more days. Next up: Oosterdam on Tuesday.
  16. Well, we've been home just over a week and I finally get my trip review written and submitted so I am posting here as well. Thank you to everyone who contributes to this board as I spent hours reading through threads in preparation for our trip. Hopefully this review helps someone else. We decided about 18 months ago to take a trip for our 15th anniversary and we went with close friends who were married the same year. We are 2 couples ranging in age from mid-40's to early 50's, We selected Holland America because of their history cruising in Alaska. We also liked the idea of a small
  17. The usual cast of characters will be in Juneau on Monday. Eurodam will be at the AS dock from 1300-2300 and Nieuw Amsterdam at the CT dock from 1300-2200. Also in port are Ruby Princess at the FKL dock from 1100-2215 and Solstice at the AJ dock from 1330-2200. Monday is forecast to be the worst of the week with rain chances lowering and temperatures rising as the week progresses. Monday has a 100% chance of rain and a high of 57F/14C and a low of 48F/9C. Sunrise is at 5:44am and sunset at 8:14 pm. The PTZtv webcam can be found at https://www.ju
  18. I understand that this is a "pop up" experience. But, where does it pop up? For those who have done this (and I know this is very subjective), is it work the $49 charge?
  19. Cruise December 2019 (Holiday/Christmas). Family of 6 - adults. This will be our 5th cruise w/ HAL, our first Holiday. To save some money we are considering flying "red eye" into FLL. We would land at 6:00 a.m. How early can we board ship? Should we go ahead and get hotel to get few hours sleep? Thanks in advance for guidance.
  20. Eurodam will be at the AS dock from 1300-2300 and Nieuw Amsterdam at the CT dock from 1300-2200. Also in port are Ruby Princess at the FKL dock from 1100-2215 and Solstice at the AJ dock from 1330-2200. Monday is looking to be the nicest day of the week with a 0% chance of rain and a high of 63F/17C but a chilly low of 44F/7C. Sunrise is at 5:28 am and sunset at 8:33 pm. The PTZtv webcam can be found at https://www.juneauharborwebcam.com/. Next up: Oosterdam on Tuesday.
  21. Cruise December 2019 Holiday. Family of 6. Fifth time on HAL, 1st Holiday trip. Does anyone know if HAL has a "special" night planned in the dining room for Christmas? We usually book one or two nights of our trip at one of the specialty restaurants while on board. Not sure how we should plan for the holiday this trip. Thanks much to all.
  22. Does the spa area have a thallosotherpy pool. If so how big is it? Is there an additional fee? Also is the spa included in the Neptune Suites and above? Any pictures would be helpful. Thanks
  23. Thinking about booking a connecting cabin on deck 6, ss category and would like to know if anyone can tell me where the connecting door is in the cabin? Thanks for your replies.
  24. Currently waitlisted for Early Dining (requested a table for 2) and I am not holding out much hope for getting early dining as booked this cruise very close to sailing date. Last time we sailed on the NA we had Anytime Dining and wanted a table for 2 and pretty much every night there was quite a long wait for seating. I guess we were “newbies” on HAL and didn’t know we should come at 5:50 😱 for dinner. So.... this time around I am trying to minimize the wait for dinner and was **considering** springing the $$ for Club Orange so that we could have dinner without a wait. Yes, I do understand
  25. Thinking about a Caribbean cruise on the Nieuw Amsterdam this Spring. Family of 3, including a 14 year old. We would prefer mid-ship, lower and a nice balcony. I've read about the possible view of the tops of the lifeboats, I don't think we'd care about that, but we would want a good balcony and a quiet cabin. Suggestions? Thanks.
