  1. Quick question......I called Holland direct and received two different answers. We booked the Nieuw Statendam room 7107 balcony room. I know the balcony is larger. I can see from the deck plan it's true. Well another agent said the room was also a bit larger than a regular balcony room. Was wonder if anyone can confirm. The 1st agent said the room was NOT larger. Not sure who to believe. Thanks!
  2. I know there are retreat cabanas. The teens liked the ones by the pool on our last cruise on NA
  3. On the Konsingdam and Nieuw Statendam there are 2 staterooms Cat VH on deck 4 forward (on either side of the ship) that have a "sideways" balcony. The staterooms are life boat obstructed but apparently the size of these balconies are huge --- equivalent to a suite. The door the balcony is on the side of the cabin rather than being at the back and where the balcony would be on a normal stateroom is a big oceanview style window. Anyone have pictures of these rooms or stayed in them? My parents are booked in 4042 on Nieuw Statendam (https://www.icruise.com/deckplans/holland-americ
  4. Does anyone know from sailing on this ship if there is a happy hour in the Crow's Nest or any bar? If so what are the times and particulars. Thank you.
  5. Cannot find much information on Tamarind on the Nieuw Statendam. When the ship came out, Tamarind was supposed to have an outdoor eating area overlooking the Sea View pool area. Has anyone actually experienced this and how enjoyable (or not) was it?
  6. I am a loyal HAL fan, not the most experienced cruiser, but have completed 3 back to back cruises and one re-positioning cruise, covering the Western and Eastern Mediterranean, Western Europe, Baltic countries, Japan to Alaska and most recently from 2 June to 23 June the Norwegian fjords on the Nieuw Statendam. My purpose in this review is not to deal with every aspect of the cruise on NS, as most topics are well covered in the many reviews published since its launch. It suffices to say she is a beautiful ship, well designed in all respects (other than the closed in effect of the Promen
  7. Anyone know who the Pinnacle Grill Manager is on the Nieuw Statendam? Did they transfer the manager from the Koningsdam?
  8. For anyone who is considering a Niew Statendam aft verandah Neptune Suite, my husband, son and I just returned for a seven day Holiday cruise to Aruba and Curaçao (Dec 22-29). We booked Deck 6 (Mozart) room 6210 which is port aft corner Neptune suite. Loved it! We've stayed in a similar suite on Eurodam and much preferred this brand new ship, with a few exceptions. Main draw for us -- huge balcony. The balcony wraps along the entire aft and port sides of the room. It really felt like we had a little piece of the ship all to ourselves. It was furnished with a round table with
  9. Seven ships in port today with a possibility of 19,000 passengers debarking and an equal number embarking (glad I am not going to be at the FLL airport!). Eurodam will be at pier 19 (starboard to) from 0545-1700. She will be doing an 11-day Panama Canal Sunfarer cruise. Half Moon Cay, Bahamas (05 Jan 0800-1500); Oranjestad, Aruba (07 Jan 1300-2300); Willemstad, Curacao (08 Jan 0800-2300); Cartagena, Colombia (10 Jan 0700-1300); Panama Canal (Cruising Canal) (11 Jan 0500-0500); Colon, Panama (11 Jan 1500-2000); Puerto Limon, Costa Rica (12 Jan 0730-1700); Fo
  10. Nieuw Amsterdam will be at pier 21 (starboard to) from 0545-1700. She is headed out on a 7-day western Caribbean cruise. Half Moon Cay, Bahamas (01 Dec 0800-1600); Falmouth, Jamaica (03 Dec 0800-1700); George Town, Grand Cayman (04 Dec 0800-1600); Key West, Florida (06 Dec 0700-1700); Fort Lauderdale, Florida (07 Dec a0700) Zuiderdam is headed to Freeport for a drydock. She will be at pier 26 (port to) from 0500-1600 but as we all know, ships leaving for drydock do not always leave as scheduled. Also in port are Caribbean Princess at pier 2 from 05
  11. Hi all! First time posting here on CC. My wife and I are sailing on the Nieuw Statendam this coming December with another couple and wondering if the family cabana in the Retreat is large enough for 4 adults and what the interior configuration is like. Are there 4 lounges inside? Thanks in advance for any info on this.
  12. I was looking at the deck plans for the Eurodam and Nieuw Amsterdam, and did not see the Lido Cabanas, Did they do away with them?
  13. Hello Everyone, sailing away today! Will try and post menus and other information. I plan to get internet for sea days and use my International calling plan in port. We boarded about 12 and were on quickly. Had a problem with my sisters drink package and was happy to stand in the Club Orange line (just one person ahead of me). Photo is drink events and cost.
  14. Anyone have any info on how the repairs on the Nieuw Amsterdam are going? TIA
  15. We are onboard the Nieuw Amsterdam for today’s sailing. The captain just announced that due to a technical issue we won’t be leaving on time. No ETA on sailing currently. Assuming worst case, what is the Standard Operating Procedure in this case?
  16. It is another full house in Port Everglades with eight cruise ships in port. Eurodam will be at pier 26 (port to) from 0530-1700. She will be doing a 7-day Tropical Caribbean Holiday Cruise. Half Moon Cay, Bahamas (29 Dec 0800-1700); Grand Turk, Turks and Caicos (31 Dec 0800-1700); Amber Cove, Dominican Republic (01 Jan 0800-1700); Nassau, Bahamas (03 Jan 0800-1700); Fort Lauderdale, Florida (04 Jan a0700) Nieuw Amsterdam will be at pier 21 (starboard to) from 0645-1700. 17. This was our first HAL cruise and our 7th overall. DW and I had wanted to try HAL for a few years and this was a great deal on the last minute sale. We booked a verandah guarantee about 3 weeks out, and about a week before sailing, were offered an upsell to a Signature Suite for just a few dollars more. We snapped that up and looked forward to getting on the Nieuw Amsterdam. EMBARKATION We had flown into Fort Lauderdale the day before, so were able to take an early shuttle to Port Everglades and be in line early. The terminal was opened up around 10:30 and we were checked
  18. Been off the boards a few weeks, and last I had read, the NA was in shipyard having one of the engines fixed, and a cruise was cancelled. Is she back in the water and ok these days? we have a mid march cruise coming up
  19. Just looking for opinions from you all (southern a little) on whether or not you feel crowded on these ships. My DH and I have been on the Zaandam twice and the Nieuw Amsterdam once but that was only for 3 nights. Thanks
  20. Hi all! We're going on a cruise to Norway on the Nieuw Statendam in late July. I love to get up early and swim before heading off for the day. Can anyone who has been on the NS or is on it now tell me when they open the Lido and Seaview pools in the morning? thank you!
  21. Hi, we are traveling on Nieuw Amsterdam in May with a group of 18. We booked with a TA and asked for balcony rooms. We are in 5087 and I’m wondering if it’s an obstructive view. Wish we booked direct as I don’t think TA is looking out for our best interests. TIA
  22. Hi. Can anyone tell me if the afts on deck 5 and 6 are covered or partially covered? Any reason to choose one deck over the other? Many thanks. Fran :)
  23. Nieuw Amsterdam will be at pier 26 (port to) from 0630-1700. She will be doing a 7-day Eastern Caribbean cruise. Grand Turk, Turks and Caicos (16 Dec 0800-1500); San Juan, Puerto Rico (17 Dec 1300-2300); St Thomas, US Virgin Islands (18 Dec 0800-1700); Half Moon Cay, Bahamas (20 Dec 0800-1500); Fort Lauderdale, Florida (21 Dec a0700) Also in port are Carnival Sunrise at pier 4 from 0430-1600, Celebrity Equinox at pier 25 from 0600-1530, Independence OTS at pier 18 from 0615-1630, Majesty OTS at pier 19 from 1015 (???seems late since she is coming from Nassau)-1
  24. Planning to cruise the Mediterranean 2020, previously enjoyed Neptune Suites, veranda, Lanai, and interior rooms. We would appreciate any experiences that would recommend reserving an aft veranda.
  25. Are there chairs on the outside promenade deck of the Nieuw Amsterdam? Recently was on the Koningsdam and they had none. Used to sail Holland and remember the teak wood lounge chairs under the life boats on the promenade deck.
