  1. Last year, today, the Nieuw Statendam berthed in Katakolon, Greece. We did a countryside tour and visited an olive farm/packager. Very interesting. After the tour of the processing rooms ,we had an olive oil tasting. Who would have thought that there was a way to taste the oil properly? The lemon olive oil was scrumptious. Then on to Olympia. Seeing the Olympic village, and learning how many people participated each time was mind-boggling.

  3. Carnival is is booking through spring of 2023 actually. They are a different brand with a different market segment. It’s not unusual for their client base to book 15, 18, 24+ months out for a 3 or 4 day cruise and want to pay $25/month to pay it off. Additionally far fewer of their ships change itineraries or home ports seasonally. Most operate the same itinerary pattern from the same port year after year after year, so easier to offer bookings further out. By comparison most HAL Caribbean itineraries see very few bookings outside of 5-6 months prior to sailing, and even then the bulk of their Caribbean capacity sells within 120 days or less to departure. HAL cruisers are more likely to make 1or 2 total payments. There’s just not the imperative for HAL to release Caribbean sailings as far out as their competition. That said I think HAL are waiting to release Caribbean sailings until they get everything else in their portfolio settled. They just released some Sea of Cortez and Hawaii/Tahiti sailings on Zuiderdam for fall 2021 - spring 2022 last week that replace recent cancellations from the Volendam being redeployed. There are still gaps in her schedule that I believe will eventually be filled in with full Panama Canal transits. They are still working on reaccomodation of 2021 Grand South America guests to the 2022 Grand South America sailing (which has yet to be made publicly available). They just made changes to Nieuw Statendam and Rotterdam summer 2021 Europe sailings, and the list goes on. All indicators point to 4 ships being deployed for the full fall 2021 to spring 2022 Caribbean season - Rotterdam VII, Nieuw Statendam, Nieuw Amsterdam and Eurodam. 2 will most likely be used for 7 day Eastern/Western alternating cruises, 1 on 10&11 day Southern Caribbean sailings and 1 for 10/11 day partial Panama Canal Transits - all round trip Ft Lauderdale. There maybe a few 10-14 day cruises on Zaandam/Volendam to fill gaps between other sailings in their schedules, but those are likely one offs. HAL is unlikely to return to Tampa for 2021/22. This is a pretty standard and predictable schedule for HAL, so if you know what you are looking for look at what’s on the schedule for Winter/Spring 2021, know that fall 21 to spring 22 will likely be a cut and paste and just be patient, it will eventually be bookable
  4. Last year from the Nieuw Statendam in Corfu, Greece. We toured on our own and enjoyed many beautiful sights. Just the views from the ship were nice. We were in port along with Oceania and Silver Seas, so we were the "poor" boys, but we didn't feel bad!

  12. Yes Sir, Winner once again! 🙂 That is in fact the Neptune Lounge of the lead ship of the world famous "S"-class, Statendam
  13. I knew it was the Neptune Lounge on either an S or R class ship. It took a few minutes detective work to discover that it was the Statendam!
  14. That was my impression on Embarkation Day on the Nieuw Statendam. I did expect such a reaction, however. I quickly got used to the size and the layout. Beautiful? A bland decor in the Theater, a MDR with Yellow/White decor that got "old" quickly for me, and unlabeled art in which I found some interesting and some simply weird, The Promenade Deck is a disappointment. I was seriously un-dazzled by the Theater. The performances that I attended in such a hyped, high tech Theater were most underwhelming and certainly failed to use the 270 degree screen to its best use. My reviews on CC and to HAL that I wrote were most negative. I expected Wow! What I experienced: what was all the hype about? Prinsendam's PG had "character" that the the S and R Class ships lack/lacked. The PG's on the other ships that have tables arranged in "rings" are fine--if--if--one gets a table that is not on the outer most ring. Azamara will never find me aboard one of their current ships. They are the former ships of Renaissance Cruises. Friends who have more cruising experience than me sailed on them when they were Renaissance vessels. The physical layout and the noise due to the low ceiling of the MDR were important items that they disliked. The Azamara deck plans that I have seen do not show much alterations as to how the ships were originally built. cruisinbanjo, I know exactly how you feel. I have felt the same regarding my abandoning two organizations of which I have been a member for many years. I affiliated with one of those organizations in 1964.
  15. We were on starboard side of the 4th deck on Nieuw Statendam. We loved the huge balcony, but even though we were all the way down to deck 4 we still had a lot of smoke. If you pick deck seven, I would make sure it is on the port side.
  16. Here are the 2 V ships in Torbay. New Statendam and Westerdam are further out.

  18. One year ago we disembarked the Nieuw Statendam, spent the night in Civitavecchia, and boarded the Koningsdam the next day. Here are some photos of that day -- boarding the hotel shuttle, one of the kitties at the hotel, and beautiful flowers on the grounds.
  19. I was just able to apply a $950 FCC from a cancelled 2020 cruise to 2021 booking on the Nieuw Stantendam. This amount was just taken off of the total cost of the cruise. No deposit was listed on the receipt or asked for. Also, it seems that the Past Passenger Rate is combinable with the Casino rate for a great discount.

  21. Most likely Eurodam. The fall 2021 to spring 2022 Caribbean itineraries (including the partial canal transits) has yet to be published, but I predict Rotterdam VII and Nieuw Amsterdam will do the 7nt E/W Caribbean, Nieuw Statendam will do the 10/11nt Southern Caribbean, and Eurodam on the 10/11nt partial canal sailings using the historic locks.
  22. Where is the Nieuw Statendam? I usually show the ship, but today, it is just scenes from the port area. Hints: It is a port mentioned previously on this thread. You can take a ships tour to these sights or a public bus. The ship docks rather than rendering here.
  23. I avoided booking the 10/9/21 10 night sailing of the Nieuw Statendam for a very similar reason as it is the Mark Steyn Cruise (Conservative Political Commentator). Politics aside, we did not want to be on a vessel where many public areas might be used for exclusive use of the group (fixed seating dining, lectures, musical performances, cocktail parties, etc). This is a disruption to my vacation that I am not willing to accept. Instead we booked the 10/29/21 9 night sailing and took the loss of one port as an acceptable trade-off. We already had the 10/29/21 sailing booked so in either case we are on a b2b, which is what we wanted.
  24. I live in Torquay where New Statendam joined Westerdam, Zaandam and Volendam this morning. Torbay is very sheltered from all winds except the south east. The prevailing winds are southwest so the ships can sit in comparatively calm water even if it is blowing a gale. It is an overnight sail to Southampton for storing. Zaandam and Volendam are closest in - Zaandam is about a half a mile from the shore, Volendam is a little further out then Westerdam then New Statendam. They are a magnificent if unusual sight. In the next bay are Queen Mary 2, Azura and Ventura.
