  1. HAL is definitely heavy on music in bars and the nightly entertainment isn't a priority. If you thought NCL was boring, I am fairly certain you would find HAL a snoozefest. No yoga pants at dinner. All the ships are smaller, except for the Koningsdam and Nieuw Statendam, both of which are small compared to other lines' ships.
  2. I just realized upon re-reading that my pricing was typed in error - the Veendam and Crown Princess are listed the same price for a regular balcony. The Nieuw Statendam is listed about $600 pp less than those 2 and the Rotterdam is listed at about $900 pp less... so not sure the ship or itineraries make that much difference.... or not???? The more expensive 2 have only 4 sea days and the other 2 have 5 sea days.
  3. That is your opinion and I would completely disagree. On a K'dam cruise there were some couples who insisted on ballroom dancing to BBKing, swooshing around the other dancers causing chaos . Completely self centered. i would suggest that the target market and those who book Koningsdam and Nieuw Statendam have very little interest in ballroom dancing and would find it an annoyance.
  4. I think you will find that after the recent dry dock of the Koningsdam that the music venues will be changed to the Nieuw Statendam configuration. There is a thread going on that cruise currently so you might want to check in there.
  5. I want a Christmas cruise to be our new tradition! We SO loved our Alaska cruise. My family LOVES to fish so cruising is a perfect vacation. Looking at HAL Holiday itineraries for next year. The Nieuw Statendam itenarary looks great but we’ll have to see if the family room for 5 works or us just insane.
  6. As a comparison, here's a short video of a walk around the jogging track on deck 11 which has ocean views. No animals or fish were spotted in the making of this video. https://photos.smugmug.com/Travel/2018/Nieuw-Statendam-2018/i-cFsGPJ8/0/37d28473/640/NS Deck 11 Walk Around 12-12-18_Medium-640.mp4
  7. I posted the pictures of 1012 just short of two years ago. In late October I joined Koningsdam in Civitavecchia for the tranatlantic. The cabin was again very comfortable. I had a pair of cabin stewards that rank near the top of all I have had in my sailings on HAL ships. The solo cabins are 1 deck down from the music walk, right at Billboard and very near BB King, so both are easily accessable. Two decks up you are steps away from the casino. Of course, a short elevator ride up and you enter the Crows Nest. The World Stage is also easily accessible. Food is at the other end of the ship, but that is really not a problem. This February I will be in the same cabin on the Nieuw Statendam, and I am sure I will enjoy it just as much.
  8. Thanks for the continuing post and excellent reporting. It confirms that our recent 24 days on the Koningsdam that the Nieuw Statendam follows with fantastic new venues and choices. We were very pleased with what the new Pinnacle Class ship offer. The experience was like being on a new very good cruise line. We felt Hal is going in the right direction in our future cruising experiences. Not sure about Orange but will wait and see.
  9. No, it's not just you. I had "writing a tip" on my to-do list. I realized that it was an issue when I was reading the Nieuw Statendam live from thread. I already had my screen grabs captured from phone, computer and tablet in preparation. I just have to mark them up and write the instructions. It's pretty easy, although I do sometimes wind up selecting more text than I want to on my phone. I think it's because of the edges on my phone case. Anyway, once you know the secret of quote selection, the new system is quite a bit easier than the old one.
  10. Has the Crows Nest been changed into the hybrid lounge/ coffee bar/ excursions experience, to match Nieuw Statendam and the Vista/ Signature Class ships?
  11. Today we took a mile walk around the promenade deck and I used my GoPro to shoot time lapse photos. The entire sequence is over 600 pictures, so I selected about 100 and put them in a little movie. If you are curious about the size of the Promenade deck and like to see details, launch the under 5 minute movie and enjoy. The pictures are displayed in a random order and not sequentially. https://photos.smugmug.com/Travel/2018/Nieuw-Statendam-2018/i-BFTsSfL/0/1ca032f6/640/NS%20Walk%20-%20Small_Medium-640.mp4
  12. Club Orange on Nieuw Statendam from the current "live from" thread. Windows look out to the main hallway from Ocean Bar to MDR. Tables in back are the tall bar height tables with bar height chairs- not my idea of fine dining. Floor appears to be "faux wood". I understand that Vista and Signature will be part of MDR from recent posts. We don't care for the rush and noise in MDR. Since apparently breakfast in PG for NS will be no more once this is in place will very likely be room service for us. Also included a pic of Haven Dining Room from NCL. Didn't add Celebrity but Illuminai is similar- windows look out to the sea.
  13. I totally agree with you about the inside cabins on the Koningsdam. I had to walk sideways around the bed. It was ok for just me, but would be way too cramped for two people. On the Nieuw Statendam we managed to book one of two bigger inside cabins through the help of my PCC. We'll see how that works out.
  14. I'm on the Nieuw Statendam for 31 day with 3 separate booking numbers. Will the unused onboard ship credits be carried over to the next booking number?
  15. Sorry it took so long Nieuw Statendam Aug 4, 2019 14 days Aug 18, 2019 7 days Aug 25, 2019 14 days September 8, 2019 7 days September 15, 2019 12 days September 27, 2019 10 days October 7, 2019 10 days Koningsdam October 18, 2019 13 days October 31, 2019 13 days November 13, 2019 11 days Thanks Marty and Gail
  16. Not on the Nieuw Statendam but the same thing happens all the time on the Koningsdam between Billboard Onboard and the BB King Blues Club ... and there is no sound bleed.
  17. On Koningsdam there was a small buffet with Fingerfood in the Billboard Lounge, l believe. Does Nieuw Statendam feature it as well in one of the lounges? I know the layout is slightly different regarding the bars.
  18. Copper. Yesterday on the Nieuw Statendam thread they reported that a shell fell off life boat. What is a “Shell”?
  19. Before the negative reviews began rolling in, we cancelled our 7 day Edge cruise......I viewed a travel agents video review and there was loud music everywhere, even the adults only pool. Neither of us like loud music and prefer quiet places where we can chat with new found friends. we are now booked on the Nieuw Statendam, which may be a better fit for us.
  20. In his 12/4 post, Captain Albert showed the Notes area of Nieuw Statendam being a whisky tasting venue. (Deck 2 between Billboard Onboard and Rolling Stone Rock Room) Today Vict0riann showed the Notes whisky tasting in When & Where. (post #275 on page 7) Could someone on a K-dam post-drydock cruise report if this was added? The space is identical on both ships. This would appeal to DH. TIA.
  21. Knittinggirl we were told about the shower in the Signature Suite one week after final payment We chose the cabin months ago after looking at the latest Cruise Atlas showing the deck plans for the Nieuw Statendam. After the call 2 days ago from our TA about the cabin having a shower only, I went back to the Atlas and perused the page of deck plans ponderously. There was no reference to ...Shower Only... I would like to hear from suite sailors coming off the Kdam after her drydock to find out if HAL changed the bathroom to shower only!!??
  22. Vict0riann is doing a live thread right now from the Nieuw Statendam and is posting the When and Where's (daily newsletter) daily. While it's not the Eurodam, the basics of the newsletter would be the same.
  23. Good point. Notice this article that CC just posted from aboard Nieuw Statendam. You will see commented about an interesting contrast between impressive spaces (Celebrity) versus impressive experiences (HAL). In the long run, I think that HAL is likely playing the stronger hand.
  24. On the KDam before dry dock it was located between the Bill Board on Board piano area and the Lincoln Center area. Basically just off the walking aisle between the two. From the photos that Capt Albert posted of the Nieuw Statendam it looks the same.
