  1. We are on the Nieuw Statendam in March and I am trying to figure out if I can use Luggage Direct when we disembark. The caveat is our flight doesn't leave until 9PM and I think I've read that they have a 6:30 cutoff. Can anyone confirm the cutoff time? I will probably call our PCC when time is a bit nearer. We are probably going to hole up in a hotel day room on that day and just take it easy. We've always use luggage direct on past cruises so this will be a new experience for us
  2. I can only speak for the smaller, older ships. Don't know if the brand new larger ones have a full sized tennis court. Yes, there is netting and tall glass walls as well. Newer larger ships are the Konigsdam and Nieuw Statendam. But unless things have changed in a drydock, not on the smaller and older Zuiderdam. Paddle ball court size.
  3. We are on Back to Back cruises on Nieuw Statendam (HAL) from Fort Lauderdale. We could not get the same cabin for the 2nd cruise. Do we have to take our baggage off or do they have a place to store it? Or do they just take it to the new cabin? We are hoping to get same cabin with an upgrade, but probably will not happen. Also, will we need to disembark the ship at Ft. L. and then get back on? What is that process? Thanks.
  4. We just received our boarding passes for the Nieuw Statendam's december 30 departure and among its information it says: "Confirmed dining: Main, Table of A on request" I´m confused, we didn´t something specific. Do you know what does it mean?
  5. Yes, to being on an upper deck for sail-away, even when we have a balcony. One of our traditions from our 1st HA sailing is to eat in PG the last night of the cruise. I just made our reservations for our upcoming Nieuw Statendam Dec. 23rd voyage. The other comes from our 2nd HA sailing and continues to this day, which is to have lunch in the MDR after embarkation.
  6. This is absolutely terrible. We were just on the Zuiderdam and disembarked on Nov. 4th. We did some new bookings while on board and then the emails came for this Club Orange for our upcoming 18 days on the Nieuw Statendam. When we look at it as 5 Star Mariners and 700 day Platinum medallion holders they should really be making this available complementary to more people like us who have spent the time and money to reach these levels. We already get some of these Club Orange perks and now if we want Club Orange we have to pay for them. $50 a day is a lot per person and when just one person in a cabin can't have it. Yeah its a real insult to all of us that have a very high number of days and we are always in a form of a suite cabin weather its a Signature or a Vista as these categories should be included too. For us we will never pay the $50 for this. Its like when the price of the clam shells at HMC doubled for the same thing and we have been there on some occasions that the time we get there is less. We stopped reserving one and my mom doesn't even go ashore there any more and when I do its just to go for a walk. Also when we were just there on the Zuiderdam there were empty cabanas as people were not spending the money on them.
  7. My experience is different the last 2 (sept/canada, oct27 nyc to nola with stop in aruba) cruises on ncl a very old crowd. In aruba we take the public bus to eagle beach, 5 bucks round trip, not much of a partier here, did not even drink the free bottle of sparkling wine on the nola cruise, and did not buy any alcohol. We are old and was hoping to see younger people, great disappointment. Perhaps you know someone at ncl and they can give you the average age of people on those 2 cruises. HAL ships? sailed on - ms Nieuw Amsterdam, ms Zaandam, Volendam, Noordam, Eurodam, Westerdam, Ryndam, Statendam
  8. Thanks @DaveOKC. So close-in sailings should be cheaper (aside from holidays). Thinking the last 2 weeks in March, western caribbean. Maybe the new ship - Nieuw Statendam? The obstructed view balconies I've had on other cruiselines have been fine looking straight out, but blocked looking down. Is this likely the same, or will it be more like looking directly at a lifeboat?
  9. We booked an AFB Vista Suite on the Nieuw Statendam for a 7 day cruise. If we purchase the Orange Club for two of us, then we might as well pay another $45 on top of what we would spend on the Club and book a Signature Suite.
  10. Good evening John, We have a little over 3 weeks till Nieuw Statendam premiere and still no announcement about who the take out CD will be. Has anyone been named yet ?
  11. If the Nieuw Statendam is the only HAL ship in port when you embark, I'd bet on Pier 26. HAL spent money to help Port Everglades make that terminal the "premier" HAL terminal. World Cruises and the cruises of the Prinsendam always sail from that terminal.
  12. Captain Albert talked about Club Orange on his blog today. Here: https://www.hollandamerica.com/blog/excluderecent/12-nov-2018-nieuw-statendam-building-18-days-to-go/ He also mentioned a press statement from HAL, but I don't know how to go about looking for that!
  13. I have a feeling that is not going to happen - as Captain Albert's blog is showing that the same stairway is being installed on Nieuw Statendam. I think it is a gorgeous starcase. I don't gamble or smoke, and I had to make a special trip there just to walk down it!
  14. I would like to know if Nami Sushi will be separate from Tamarind as it is on Nieuw Statendam and if folks can go there to order a la carte sushi independent of the restaurant. Looking forward to all the reports and photos. We will be on Kdam January 4.
  15. I booked a casino offer for the 4 day Nieuw Statendam on December 19th. I booked a vista suite and there were only 2 rooms that I could pick from, so I took a guarantee. I believe they only alot a few rooms to pick then it’s guarantee. Looking forward to experiencing the new ship!!!
  16. Thanks to both of you for your responses. I will be sailing on Nieuw Statendam and am trying to be as prepared for the experience as I possibly can be.
  17. My husband and I are sailing on Dec 5 Nieuw Statendam!!! So happy to join your roll call! Our names are Eve and Mark Kimmel.(Miami,Florida). We are very experienced cruisers...would love to join your meet and greet! I am having trouble getting into the captains blog. Can someone help me please?
  18. Captain Albert's blog is wonderful. Make sure you scroll down to Oct. 28th or 29th and read the entries in order from there. We've learned so much about the final stages of getting a new ship ready for passengers. His photographs of Nieuw Statendam are exciting to see as the vessel nears completion. Lovely ship.
  19. Nieuw Statendam 4 days Nassau Cruise, December 19, 2018 40th Wedding Anniversary!
  20. But I'm not telling you her name... We had a wonderful email from our PCC at HAL the other day. We had booked the lowest possible inside guarantee for the premier voyage of the Nieuw Statendam on December 5, as it is our fourth cruise this year, plus we had a major overhaul of our kitchen, and the bank account was groaning. Someone on the roll call mentioned that there were a lot of verandahs vacant, and I had hoped that perhaps some ocean view people would be upgraded and we might possibly get a window, but lo and behold, she had organized a verandah guarantee for us! We are so happy. Even if it is totally obstructed, I love to be able to get a breath of fresh air occasionally, and to know when it is daytime. We've booked a guarantee three times now and always got an upgrade of sorts, usually within the category we booked, so this is a real incentive to continue doing it. I have a feeling that many cruisers are leery of booking a premier voyage because of construction still going on on board, or even delays in sailing but we're hoping for the best.
  21. The deck plans for both the Koningsdam and Nieuw Statendam indicate a shower only in the Vista suites. We had 7193 on the K and only had a shower.
  22. Thanks for the updates. I don't see any groups on my Nieuw Statendam cruise March 24th.
  23. Tough one! My first thought was to lean toward Carnival. We have been on Carnival during New Year's and there were several mulit-generation family groups. It appeared that they all had a good time. Nieuw Statendam is new, not even sailing its inaugural voyage yet. My biggest concern with that situation is that the crew, although good, might not have their team-work down yet. All the ships mentioned are larger that what we usually sail on, that is our preference. If you have not used a local travel agent, then I strongly suggest that you consult one. Those people have the time and the knowledge to help you. Jim
