  1. We're scheduled for the Amazon cruise this November. Do the SS Suites have a DVD player in the cabin? Thanks.
  2. We are just back from 44 days on Prinsendam, an amazing cruise. I can't be as funny or interestingly grouchy as Whogo, and we have arrived back to utter chaos in our "new" townhouse. The contractor is coming in to see us in a couple of hours and I'm awake early, so I thought I would at least make a start on this. We left here late September, had a day in Toronto with our daughter, and then we all travelled on to Athens, where we spent 4 hot and interesting days. We walked everywhere, didn't even ride the HOHO. Cathy had downloaded an amazing bunch of "city maps to go" and her phone followed us wherever we went. We did manage to lose DH on the Acropolis one day, and we eventually just went back to the hotel, and he turned up later. Should have had a GPS on him! Prinsendam welcomed us in Piraeus. It was like coming home. We had sailed on her before, an ill-fated cruise with almost the same itinerary as we were taking this time. Prinsendam had turned into a "plague ship" and noro ran rampant. No fun, but we decided to give the old gal another chance. Second time's the charm! We had major changes to the itinerary, as all the Turkish stops were removed, and eventually the Black Sea was changed to the Adriatic and Ionian Seas. We were happy with the changes, there were beautiful new ports I had never seen in Italy, Slovenia, Albania, etc. But mainly I started this to post a few photos I took of the ship. She had had a dry dock a few months before and I'm not sure what they did to her, but she was looking very spiffy. The new closed-in addition to the Lido worked well for the Canaletto, but didn't seem to have as good air conditioning; occasionally someone would set the doors to "open" from the Lido Market and that would help. We ate 4 or 5 times in Canaletto and liked the new menu better than the first we had, but I think the "new" menu actually was the same as a previous menu. We also had dinner a few times in the Pinnacle, and we went to 2 of the 3 Cellar Master's dinners. All very good. Cathy never wanted to eat in the dining room, so we ate most of our meals in the Lido Market, and they were quite good. I missed not having anchovies with my lunchtime salads. I mentioned this on a later roll call thread, and was made a gift at their M & G of a tin of anchovies! Made my day:D The crew were all amazing, and we loved them all. When we did eat in the MDR we felt the stewards were rushed, but in the Lido they were able to chat. I'll switch over to Tapatalk on my iPad now.
  3. If the Prinsendam leaves in 2019 which ship will do the Grand South America.? Sent from my SM-G930T using Forums mobile app
  4. Having returned from the Prinsendam's Christmas/New Year's cruise, my curiosity prompts this post. If you did sail on Royal Viking Sun and then the Prinsendam, what decor changes did you note? Comparing the deck plans of the two ships, it is obvious as to the physical changes made when HAL added her to the fleet. But, I wonder about the decor. Did the color of the walls in the public areas, i.e. foyers, and hallways change? Did the atrium area change? What about the art work? Anything different between the two incarnations of this ship that you recall would be of interest to me. Thank you for your effort in answering this question!
  5. If you'd be so kind as to help me out, what are some things unique to the Prinsendam that you like? I'll be honest and tell you up front that it's not because we plan to sail her. Her itineraries are far too long while we're still working. The reason is that I need some things for "O Little Ship the Prinsendam," sung to the tune of O Little Town of Bethlehem. All help is appreciated. Thanks!
  6. Another busy day with a big dam ship (Zuiderdam), a small dam ship (Prinsendam) and a medium dam ship (Maasdam) in port, as well as four other ships! The Zuiderdam is scheduled to set sail at 16:00/4:00 PM EDT and the Maasdam at 23:00/11:00 PM (subject to change as always). The Maasdam is heading for dry dock in Freeport in the Bahamas and the port schedule shows a 13:00/1:00 PM departure but we know that usually changes! The webcams are at: http://portevergladeswebcam.com/ http://ftlauderdalewebcam.com/ Also departing: Celebrity Constellation, Emerald Princess, Island Princess and Serenade Of The Seas. 7. We are currently booked on the Prinsendam from Athens to Fort Lauderdale 10/26/15. Our current cabin is a Vista Suite(Verandah Cabin) class A. Got a call this week to go to either a Signature Suite($1249PP), or a Neptune Suite for $3499PP. Decided for either 2500 or 7000 total, we could take a lot of Caribbean Cruises from Fort Lauderdale. Hopefully some one paid that price and the stock price will go up!!!!! Richard
  8. Does anyone know what the Prinsendam will be doing on May 5 - May 19, 2016? I see it arrives in Ft. Lauderdale from Europe the first week in May but does not depart from Ft. Lauderdale until May 19 for the TA to Amsterdam. What's the story?
  9. We’ve booked a cruise on the Prinsendam in May 2019. I can cancel with no penalty. Would you stick with it, or look for something else? I’m afraid that service may not be up to par if it’s now being contracted for a short period. Opinions?
  10. I'm very curious, since we now know that Prinsendam is leaving HAL service next year, whether those HAL passengers who enjoy sailing on a smaller ship will consider looking elsewhere for a small ship experience? (And if so, where?) I have all but ruled out sailing on larger ships (which for me is anything north of about 1,200) so I think HAL is not in my future. I'm trying Azamara in the fall to see what I think. I was previously keen on Oceania but the experiences of some HAL posters whose opinions I value on that line have put me off a bit. I'm also looking closely at Viking Ocean. I really don't want to put all my eggs in one basket (Voyages to Antiquity). Anyone else looking at other ships but not necessarily keen on the "luxury" market? Prinsendam loyalists, what are you considering for the future?
  11. I am thinking about a cruise with grandchildren and wondering if the Prinsendam is a choice or not. We have done an Alaska cruise and they loved it, although they thought Club Hal was so-so. Any advice or info would be welcome. Thanks!
  12. I haven't sailed for two years since returning from the Prinsendam's Grand South America in March of 2016 and facing some health problems. Can anyone tell me if the P'dam still has a library and, if so, is it staffed as it was on the three voyages I made on that ship. I'm hearing from friends that all the libraries are being pulled from the ships of the fleet. Thanks. ;);)
  13. Can anyone tell me where Prinsendam docks in Lisbon? I know there are a couple of ports, just not sure whether one is dedicated to smaller ships or whether it's by cruise line or just 'luck of the draw' which ships dock where. I'd like to stay in Belem pre-cruise if that's where the ship will be. Otherwise would probably stay in Alfama, which is my favorite area of Lisbon.
  14. WE took our first HAL cruise this spring and loved it especially the entertainment like the adagio (?) strings and the blues gands. We just booked a cruise on the Prinsendam in Aug of next year because of the itinerary. Was wondering because of the size if they will they have the strings group and other decent entertainment on board? Thanks, Bob from TX
  15. Since there are two ports in Reykjavik, the bigger industrial port and the smaller in downtown Reykjavik, I would like to know where the Prinsendam was docked during here visit a couple of weeks ago.
  16. The Prinsendam inside cabins are not functional for daytime use. The bedroom area is TINY because the oversized bathroom and walk in closet occupy fully half the cabin square footage. The cabins are uncomfortable, poorly configured, very dimly lit and really only useful as a place to sleep. All inside cabins are the same no matter which category or location on the ship. There is absolutely nowhere to sit comfortably to read, relax, watch TV etc. The lighting is so poor that reading is impossible even with every light on in the cabin. They were unwilling/ unable to improve the lighting. There is no desk, no table, no comfortable seating in the cabin. There is a small chair that is always in the way. Your room service tray will have to be placed on the bed and that is how you will eat. The inside cabin experience was a HUGE disappointment on this ship. I am an experienced cruiser, having sailed with many different lines on many different ships. I have never had a worse cabin in the 50+ cruises I have been on. I had the cabin to myself, having paid the single supplement. I can't imagine how 2 people could possibly manage. I wish I had had an opportunity to read this review before I booked my inside cabin on the Prinsendam !!!!!!!
  17. My DW and I are booked on the Prinsendam for the Baltic cruise next July. We are curious, after reading about all the remodeling and so forth over the last few years, if anyone has some recent pictures of the ship. We would be interested in on-board pics of the interior, the promenade, etc. Thanks!
  18. Is the Prinsendam completely wifi'ed? Can I use the wifi in my room? Or do I have to go to the computer room to get on?
  19. we will be sailing on this itinerary on October 21, 2014. We would like any information on ships tours and others at the various ports
  20. We're considering booking a cruise on the Prinsendam for later this year. We usually choose an inside cabin on other HAL ships, and have grown fond of the Cat K/J large insides on the Vistas and Signatures, and the sideways inside cabins on the S-class ships and were hoping to book something similar for this cruise. For those who have sailed the Prinsendam, what categories/locations are the larger inside cabins on this ship? I checked HAL facts and there was only one photo of an inside, a Cat K on promenade deck that looked to be pretty large, but I was hoping to hear more from those who have sailed the Prinsendam before making the decision. We would also need a shower only cabin, if that has any impact. Thanks, all! :)
  21. Hey from Germany, we are thinking about taking the Prinsedam Black-Sea-Cruise in October, Can anyone tell me if the Sauna is free of charge and how low the temperature is. There is a male and female sauna?!! Actually we prefer it hotter, but never found a HAL-Ship with 90° + How ist the entertainemnt onboard. As it is a small ship we will not expect any big production shows...? Cheers
  22. Hello CC friends, I am looking into taking a December cruise on Christmas and New Year's Day in 2015 on the lovely Prinsendam. This cruise is higher than what I am use to on the holidays. I really love the itinerary and would love to give the Prinsendam a try. I know dam ship is smaller than any other ship in the fleet. Is it really worth it? Is the Prinsendam ship experience worth the extra cost? The itinerary is Half Moon Cay, Bahamas St. John St. Barts Nevis, St. Kitts/Nevis Basse-Terre, Guadaloupe Castries, St Lucia Scenic cruising Soufriere Bridgetown, Barbados Port Elizabeth, St Vincent San Juan, Puerto Rico Samana, Domincan Republic Grand Turk, Turks and Caicos I have been to San Juan, Half Moon Cay, and Grand Turks, but the other ports will be new to me. Are they any nice cabins that I need to be aware of? Thanks for the information. David
  23. My DH and I are in Venice awaiting our Mediterranean cruise on the NA. We went to St. Mark's Basin this afternoon specifically to watch the Prinsendam sail past St. Mark's Square on her way out of Venice. Here's some photos I took. She sailed past around 6.30 pm local time, and she looked beautiful in the setting sun. I hope everyone on board is having a great time. We can't wait to sail on her again in November, down the Amazon River. Michelle.
  24. When Prinendam cruise documents say the "upper dining room", to which of the adjoining dining rooms do they refer, the larger one on the smaller one at the side? Does "upper dining room" imply open or fixed dining? Thank you.
