  1. I just heard from SJSULIBARIAN who is doing the 14 day Prinsendam holiday cruise. This ship has 2 front elevators and 2 back elevators. One of the front elevators has constantly been out. One day both front elevators were out. She was talking to another person and reports are that both back elevators go out from time to time. On port days, there are long lines for the couple of working elevators. Other than the elevator issue, the ship is in fine condition -- crew constantly cleaning and painting.
  2. Here is the Prinsendam off Bequia today, we are 1 week into our 2 week cruise.
  3. As we have only sailed the Noordam and Koningsdam would like to hear from the experts on the differences between the Veendam and Prinsendam. We are looking at the itineraries from South America back to Florida through the Amazon. The Veendam leaves from Rio which is our preference and is a shorter cruise. Our understanding is the Prinsendam is a better ship and there is a very good rate on the inside cabins at the moment, also our friend will be working on the Prinsendam. The problem with the P is it leaves from BA and we would have to get there from Rio and it would mean less time on land in Brazil. We are in our early 40’s and like a few drinks and a fun time, what will the crowds be like on these longer ships? The prices are good and we could then take a TA to Europe afterwards, the alternative is to spend a bit more and try an Azamara cruise direct from Rio to Europe. Appreciate any thoughts as concerned by the recent reviews of the Veendam.

  5. First (and last) time on Prinsendam for us in March19. Usually we have dinner in the Pinnacle during our cruises but avoid the booking in advance option because of bothersome mariner discount problems. Never a problem to book on board on the first day. Will this be different on the Prinsendam due to the smaller ship and more mariners on board? Can anyone take a guess based on experience?

Attention sail-away addicts: I can continue the sail-aways through January 4. I need someone to post the sail-aways from January 6 - March 26 ( I can pick up again on March 27).
  7. Prinsendam will be heading to drydock on Friday. She will be at Pier 26 (port to). She is due in at 0500 but her departure time is uncertain. Every time I look at the schedule it changes. Right now the PE schedule shows her leaving at noon but we will see. The PTZtv webcam can be found at https://www.ftlauderdalewebcam.com/ and https://www.portevergladeswebcam.com/. Next up: Oosterdam on Saturday, 8 December.
  8. In looking at the Marine Traffic website today (Saturday, Dec. 1), I noticed that the Prinsendam is at anchor at Charlotteville instead of docking at Scarborough. Does anybody know why? I'm curious because we are on the Prinsendam at the end of the month and are scheduled to dock at Scarborough on Dec. 27. I'm wondering if this is a frequent occurrence and whether we need to develop a plan B for that day in port.
  9. Has anyone sailed in this cabin since September? Have you been aware of any bad odors in the cabin? Alberta Quilter noted that on their September cruise there was a disgusting odor that worsened in spite of cleaning efforts by the housekeeping staff. Help! We are booked in this cabin in December.
  10. Does Prinsendam still have the pax laundromat? Being she’s leaving the fleet, I’m hoping they left it.
  11. Question for those that have sailed on the Prinsendam in the last few months, what condition is the ship in? Mainly the cabins. I sailed on her December 2016 and at that time the cabins needed some TLC and there were in numerous cabins air conditioner issues. At that time the public areas were in fairly good condition. I have a group of family members that are looking to book the Christmas/New Year cruise. Any feed back is truly appreciated so that I can give them some guidance. Thank you Erna
  12. My last 2 cruises were on the Koningsdam and the muster drill was held inside of the ship. How does it work on the Prinsendam? Outside like the others?
  13. My last 2 cruises were on the Koningsdam and I really enjoyed the indoor muster drill. Got spoiled! Can someone tell me where is the muster drill location on Prinsendam? Still outside? Thanks in advance.
  14. A real bonanza is in store for the sail-away addicts. We will have five HAL ships in FLL over the next three days! Friday gives us Prinsendam and Veendam. 15. Past pax: On previous cruises up the Amazon, was the wi-fi at least acceptable most of the way? Worth getting the cruise-long package, or just a waste of money?
  16. Hi Prihsendam old-timers. I'm looking at booking a Vista Suite on promenade deck (AB/BC). They look desirable, with larger verandahs than usual for the ship. Does that translate to a smaller actual non-verandah cabin interior, though? And are the verandahs at lest partially covered? Thanks!
  17. We are on the Oct 14th cruise from Rome to Ft Lauderdale. Presently in Cadiz Spain having to stay over night for a cracked tank repair including divers. As of now we are scheduled to leave here Fri the 19th at 5:00pm local time. This has changed the schedule for the next 6 ports. Luckily we are going to Gibraltar which was not on our original schedule. Hopefully the repairs can get completed since they have been at it since early Thurs morning Oct. 18th while here in Cadiz.
  18. Tendering on the Prinsendam How does the tendering process work on the Prinsendam?
  19. We recently booked an oceanview cabin on the Prinsendam for June, but would really like a balcony when the upgrade price drops as the sail date draws closer. Our booking agent said that unlike some cruiselines, HAL doesn't notify agents when the balconies come available for this kind of cabin shifting, so that we need to check the website periodically. Not being one to obsessively check things daily when it's not necessary, I'd like to know when the right time is so I don't miss a good opportunity due to too much casualness. (The agent didn't say much on that point!) Does anyone have insights to share about the HAL process & timeline for "bargain" cabin upgrading? Would it be different for Prinsendam than for the larger ships?
  20. Is the self serve laundromat still free on the ship? Will take my own soap but want to verify machines are free as they were a couple of years ago. Sent from my iPad using Forums
  21. First time on the Prinsendam - how is the internet onboard? Is it slow like the rest of the fleet or has HAL updated the internet on the Prinsendam? Is it unlimited or by the minute?
  22. What are the current outdoor dining options on Prinsendam (for those not in veranda cabins!), in terms of location, hours, and menu variety? We'll sail on her for the first time in 2019, and I read somewhere that there was once an outside dining area for the Lido buffet, but that it was enclosed to create Wintergarten, etc.
  23. My review / log from our recent Prinsendam cruise has been published. PrinsendamReview by StartrainDD We are going to miss that ship.
  24. I have followed several of the threads and opinions concerning the Prinsendam. It has been several years since we cruised HAL (I think almost 10). Our last cruise on HAL was in Alaska and I recall finding the ship absolutely dead at 8:30 pm. I recall one evening being at Guest Services and asking where everyone was and their reply was, "In Bed". :o My husband and I have sailed Celebrity, Princess & NCL the last several years. Because Morocco is on my husband's bucket list, we booked the TA on the Prinsendam next March. This was booked before we learned of the recent sale of the P'dam. Can anyone give me an idea of what to expect on the transatlantic crossing as we have never done one on our prior cruises? What entertainment and/or activities are generally available in the evening hours? We do Select or "open" dining and usually eat late. Celebrity does a good job with things like Silent Disco and live music / performers in the various bars and lounges in the evening. What does HAL offer these days? We are not the type that will stay out way late or into the early morning hours, but we usually look for some form of entertainment after dinner and before calling it a day. Any info would be appreciated.
  25. Just wondering what others may have experienced on an early October Mediterranean sailing Rome to Haifa and back? TIA
