  1. Hi, I'm trying to book a cruise on Royal Caribbean through their website, but when I get to the guest info part it requires to enter a state, But i'm not a US citizen, and selected a non us citizenship. and it can't be left blank. does it mean only US citizen can book a cruise through their site? should I just choose a random state? wouldn't it cause problem afterwards, when boarding? Thanks a lot
  2. Hi there! We just booked our first Royal Caribbean cruise and I’m very excited!! It will be me, my husband, and my two sons in a Grand Suite. My mom and step dad booked an ocean view room. My question is this...if our bookings are “linked”, can my parents sit with us at shows, restaurants, etc that have suite perks or will we have to split up (or I sacrifice the perks)? As an alternative, would buying The Key for my parents alleviate this issue? Thanks in advance for any help for what I’m sure is a dumb question.
  3. My travel agent thinks royal Caribbean has the best insurance. I have always bought private since I worry about the preexisting condition waiver. The wording is a little hard to understand. I had a serious illness six years ago. I have tests every six months. Not sure if I should buy this.
  4. Hi, Anybody aware of Royal P experiencing ''issues'' ?? She has skipped Juneau already today and appears to be heading to''Cape Spencer'' according to Marine Traffic....which means she will also skip Skagway and Glacier Bay.....Once at Cape Spencer ( SEAPA pilots drop off point ) , would she be heading straight to Whittier ? or heading South back to Vancouver early ? Intriguing....Recently, she did shortcut her Ketchikan southbound call by 1 1/4 hours...and had a Vancouver arrival almost 1 hour early.....and a departure back north about 45 minutes earlier than prior weeks... claude
  5. It was my first cruise with Royal on 8/10 for a 5 day cruise to Bermuda. First a little background info: I first cruised 30+ years ago with cruiselines that I cannot remember. About 7 years ago, I finally convinced my anti social husband to try a cruise. After much research, I decided to try NCL since you did not have to eat meals with other people and could dine whenever you wanted. I really wanted him to like it, because I remember loving my previous cruises. Our first cruise was on a smaller ship, the Star and I got a great deal for a forward penthouse suite. My husband loved all the perks that came with it - the priority boarding and disembarking, the breakfast and lunch in Cagneys, special reserved seating at shows. We could have lived without the butler. We did not know what to do with him, lol. After that cruise, we did a few others on the NCL Gem in an aft penthouse and loved them too, but NCL has priced us out of suites so we have not cruised in about 5 years. Fast forward to May 2019 when the Borgata Casino gave me a free cruise on Royal. I was skeptical, but called the number and booked a cruise for my sister and myself on Anthem paying only port charges and taxes and $29 each to upgrade to a balcony. The total was about $500 for both of us. Thanks RCI and Borgata! Research told me that my husband would not like this cruise because you had to wear pants to eat diner anywhere but the buffet, so my sister was happy to tag along for a free cruise! I did a lot of research online and found out about the upgrade bidding system. Although I never received an email from RCI to bid, I found the website and placed a very low bid on a Junior Suite ($150 pp) and put it out of my mind thinking that it would never be accepted. I found out 2 nights before my sailing that my bid was accepted. I had very little time to research the perks that came with Junior Suites. A big shout out to Noreen and Scott for helping me navigate this type of cabin and giving me great advice and times all through the cruise! (They were on the same cruise just across the hall from my cabin,) My sister and I are both in our early 50's and cruise for the cruise itself. It does not matter where we go, we both love the ships and all they have to offer. We have both been to Bermuda before; her by plane and me by cruise. We are boring people compared to other cruisers, so my review will not be too exciting but if you want to follow along, come on with us....
  6. Royal Caribbean is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, and we'd like to hear from you! Please share your favorite memories of cruising on Royal Caribbean International -- perhaps you were celebrating a milestone event, or you have special memories of your first sailing long ago! What made sailing on Royal Caribbean special for you? OK, go!
  7. If you've come across this thread, you are probably doing exactly what I was doing a year ago - frantically searching the internet for some detailed glimpse into a "cruise wedding." I was not very successful in my search and ended up booking a cruise wedding feeling pretty blind. Royal Caribbean makes you put down a lot of money BEFORE they provide you with any details or options for your wedding. It was a scary experience that I don't think any bride-to-be should have to deal with, so I've decided to post a VERY detailed review of my experience, as well as links to all the documents I was provided through the process. If you have any questions at all, let me know and I will answer them based on my experience! All in all, I got married onboard RCCL's Anthem of the Seas on August 4, 2018 and it was wonderful. Read on for more... My Experience Overview: Much like many people on Cruise Critic have said, the Royal Celebrations/Royal Ocean Events company is a big hot mess (I'm really not even sure what their official name is because I saw both names used throughout the planning process. I suspect they may have re-branded since so many brides have ripped them apart on the internet.) My original wedding planner (Laura) left the company about three months into my planning and I (along with all of Laura's other clients) were basically handed off to Larissa. She was NOT great to work with - very unresponsive, often sending me questions that I've answered several times prior in our email chain or contradicting herself. She never once offered a phone call to go over anything; she only communicated via email. (She is getting a very low score from me on my post-wedding evaluation.) So, the basics - We went with the "Embark on Romance" package, fancy talk for an embarkation day wedding. It was great for us because we had a lot of people we wanted at our wedding, but knew not everyone would go on the cruise and this way, our local guests could get off the ship after the ceremony/reception. I started by downloading the brochure posted online and then calling the company to inquire about what dates were available. (I think I called in early November 2017.) They only allow 2 weddings per embarkation day, so I got lucky that there was a 2018 date available for us. They will hold your date for three days. In that three days you need to book your cruise and pay their wedding fee. The forms you need to fill out are as follows: (1) the coordinator agreement and (2) the payment authorization. I was originally charged $5,992 USD (package is $5,600 plus tax) and it was split into two charges: one for ROE (Royal Ocean Events) and one for RCCL (Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines). Note: My card denied this charge and thought it was fraud three times, so you may want to give your bank a heads up before they process it. I quickly received confirmation that they received everything from me, but it was then at least two weeks until my coordinator was assigned to me. Once that happens, they send you over the full wedding choices document. In my pre-booking research I had found an old wedding form posted online, but a lot has changed since then. They no longer offer a sit down meal, and there's no pre-wedding hair and makeup services or tux rental. Basic rundown of the day: 9:30 am - Everyone (guests, cruisers, wedding party, etc.) need to be at the cruise port, for me it was Cape Liberty in Bayonne, NJ. Note: Everyone is going to see you, and you will see your fiancé, there's no way around it. Myself and my bridesmaids arrived in casual wear and changed inside. Everyone else - minus the groom - arrived dressed. You will be met by the on-site wedding coordinator, walked through security and checked in for the cruise. Non-cruisers will check in and receive a lanyard with their entry pass. Another huge thing to mention: When you turn in your final paperwork you will need to hand in all your non-cruisers' full names (as it appears on their ID), date of birth, and ID number (passport or drivers license.) This was SUCH a pain to collect from everyone, so think about incorporating this information in your RSVP. 10:30 am (Approximately) - Everyone boards the ship; guests are taken to the venue. Wedding party can select two cabins for getting ready in. For us, we didn't get on the ship until 11, or maybe a little after. They said they were having issues with the ship sanitization. For us, this was an absolute MESS. The coordinator took EVERYONE to the Music Hall first, which caused mass confusion to the guests and my wedding party who were all supposed to be getting ready but somehow got dispersed into the Music Hall with everyone else. Please make sure you tell the coordinator you want the wedding party taken directly to the rooms to get ready and NOT stop off at the Music Hall. We all got changed into our dresses and had some time for a few quick photos before the coordinator came up and got us to go down to the ceremony. (Note: Hair and makeup must be done before you get on the ship. Our getting ready that morning started at 5 am.) 12 pm - Wedding/Reception begins; mine actually began around 12:15 because we got on the ship late. The length of the ceremony is up to you, mine was about 10 minutes, and I brought my own officiant. I HIGHLY recommend doing that. If you use the boat's officiant it will be "Captain Arnold" - note, he's not the real captain of the ship. He's a very sweet old man, but he's a very slow talker and I think if he did the ceremony it would have dragged on and been very dry. If you do have your own officiant, be aware you will need to take care of the marriage license yourself; they won't help at all. In NJ, if you don't live in the state, you have to appear in person to apply for the license. We're from PA, so this was a bit of a pain. For the wedding, there is an aisle and folding seats set up in standard wedding format. After the ceremony, I was promised that the wedding party could go up to the top deck and take a few photos, but it raining, so we all just went into the casino nearby and got a group shot. During that time, the seating on the dance floor was removed. We then went back in for introductions and first dances. Then, the food was served. I do have a few notes about the food which I will get to more below. 2:30 pm - All non sailers need to be escorted off the ship at this time. They let me know that since we were late getting on the ship, they would extend our reception a bit, so they didn't start pushing people to get off the ship until around 2:45 or closer to 3. Please plan ahead of who will take your flowers/decorations home, since you will be cruising and don't want to be stuck with all that stuff. When I first submitted my paperwork, I was planning to have the full allotment of 150 people attending. (75 non cruisers, 75 cruising.) That caused some drama because Laura told me I could only have 100 - AFTER I had already sent out 'Save the Dates'. I begged and pleaded and with some convincing I was granted 150 people, but it was very frustrating because all of RCCL's information says 150 is allowed. At the end of the day, we only ended up having 102, so it wasn't a big deal, but be aware of this, since the website info is incorrect. Also, it's good to know that kids don't count towards your final count. In their words: "Anyone under the age of 12 does not count in your total numbers count. For the bar and beverage package any guest under 3 does not get charged for beverages. Ages 4 to 20 would be the soft drinks/juices option and 21 up you can make the choice with beverages." As far as wedding location goes on the ship, if you look up past photos and brochures, you can see they used Two70, which is an absolute gorgeous location. However, they no longer allow this for a wedding - and trust me, I begged and pleaded for it. If you have more then 25-30 people, they will put you in the Music Hall. Any less, they put you in Boleros. I was a little disappointed to hear that they don't do any additional decorating in the Music Hall for weddings - what you see is what you get. However, the space is absolutely gorgeous and it turns out, I really didn't need anything additional. I did bring single flowers in a candlestick onboard to put on each little lounge table, just to add some color. I also asked about the ceremony decorations and I was told that on Anthem they do a wedding arch and not the two "pillars" that you see in a lot of photos. I thought the arch was hideous so I told them I didn't want that. At some point, I saw a picture of pillars on the Anthem so I asked if they could bring them to put on either side of my fiance and I for the ceremony. I was told yes, but when we arrived it was just small round tables, no pillars. I would have preferred pillars, but at the end of the day it was a minor hiccup that didn't really matter that much. I mentioned above about the food, which I have a lot of feedback on. Right off the bat, they will tell you the cake feeds 50 people. Since we were having at least 100 people, I requested a second cake. The additional cake is about a $400 add on. Please note - this is NOT necessary. I wish I could get that $400 back because we had an entire cake that no one even cut, so trust me, one cake is enough. You will notice in the wedding packet, it doesn't have desserts, I guess they think the cake is the dessert, but I requested a dessert station, which they granted, for $17 per person. The desserts were good, I'd recommend those. For food, we went with the Tier One Hors d'oeuvres, a salad station and a pasta station. Honestly, all the food was GREAT. However, the set up was a big huge pain - probably the biggest disappointment in the day. They had three stations set up in this order: [salad] [Pasta] [sides and Dessert]. The pasta station is manned by two chefs who are making the pasta as people come up and order; it's not pre-made. So basically, it took FOREVER. The issue was that people would get in line, get salad and then get stuck behind everyone backing up at the pasta station. I guess I just had polite guests because no one was skipping around the pasta line to continue to get other food, even if they didn't want pasta. This caused a huge back up that wrapped around the entire room. I actually had a few quests who didn't get to eat because of the line, so please - if you get the pasta station, ask them to set it up at the END of the table arrangement, or, by itself. The other thing that worried me was the "No bartenders" situation. Even thought the Music Hall has a great bar, they don't man it during weddings. All the drinks are bused. So people walk around and ask what you want, go back, make/get the drink and bring it back out. I thought this was going to be an issue, but I will say they were ON TOP of it. As far as the cruise itself, the wedding company does nothing regarding reservations and travel planning. I have a friend who is a travel agent and she was able to create a group booking (you need an 8 cabin guarantee for that). I think we got pretty standard pricing, maybe $50 or so less per person then the cheapest online site, so I guess the group rate was a slight break. The great thing was that we all got onboard credit, so that was a plus. Since the reception absolutely had to end by 3 pm, I decided to have a private reception that night for my friends/family who were cruising. Essentially, they let you do a "buy out" of one of their specialty restaurants. We decided on Wonderland, which cost $4,400 for the food, and $1,500 for drinks for a total of $5,900. Honestly, this was a GREAT idea and I highly recommend it. The food was absolutely amazing, but unfortunately, I was SO exhausted that about halfway through the dinner I thought I was going to fall asleep in my food, so I went to bed and missed dessert, lol. (I highly recommend taking a nap in-between sail off and dinner. I didn't do this, and I regret it.) A few other notes I will point out - The coordinators on-site are downright AMAZING. They more than made up for the awful experience with the pre-wedding coordinators. Tammi - the main coordinator - and her team seriously made the day happen, and followed my instructions to a T. She called me two days ahead to go over everything and completely calmed me because I was freaking out due to my negative interactions with Larissa. The other coordinator there was Sandra, she's in charge of the on-ship activities. She will be your best friend, trust me. She helped me set up everything as far as NorthStar reservations for the group, dinners together, excursions, etc. There wasn't a day on the cruise that I didn't call her for something and she was so, so helpful. The last thing I want to touch on is photography. Their photo packages are ridiculously expensive for what you get, so after some internet research, this is what we did - My maid of honor and her husband knew a photographer who they were friends with. My fiancé and I met with him and his wife and we hit it off. We hired them as our photographers and we paid for them to come on the cruise. As far as Royal Caribbean knew, they were attending the wedding as "guests", not as paid vendors. So, yes, I was a little deceptive on that front, but this way, I had a photographer for everything - including the cruise - and I will get all the photos from someone I trust, not pay piecemeal through a randomly hired cruise ship photographer. Obviously, hired vendors are a BIG no no, but - even if you want to be truthful, they only charge $500 as a fee if you bring a photographer. They won't come right out and tell you this, but at the end of the day, that $500 is still cheaper then their lowest cost package which is over $1,000 for only 1 hour of photos. Do with that information what you want, but I will say that having a photographer with us was so, so perfect. Ok, I think that is literally EVERYTHING I can think of. Like I said, some things were frustrating and some things didn't go exactly as planned, but it all ended fine. I heard from so many people that it was the most unique wedding they had ever been to. And now, I have a reason to push hubby for an anniversary cruise every year! :D:D Files: Coordinator Agreement Doc: https://ashleyandgentry.files.wordpress.com/2018/08/coordinator-agreement.docx Payment Authorization: https://ashleyandgentry.files.wordpress.com/2018/08/payment-authorization-form.docx Embark on Romance Package Options: https://ashleyandgentry.files.wordpress.com/2018/08/embark-on-romance-wedding.docx Dessert Option: https://ashleyandgentry.files.wordpress.com/2018/08/dessert-package.png Wedding on Anthem Picture, from Royal: https://ashleyandgentry.files.wordpress.com/2018/08/arch-on-anthem.jpg Wedding on Anthem, Real life, from one of my guests: https://ashleyandgentry.files.wordpress.com/2018/08/our-wedding-set-up-no-pillars.jpg
  8. Hi. Just a heads up for any users of the Chase Freedom Card. You receive 10% cash back if you charge your Crystal Cruise using the card. (635 limit) offer expires soon
  9. My wife and I just returned from a B2B 14 night cruise departing from Vancouver B.C. to Alaska on the Royal Princess. On that cruise we incurred 3 bogus charges on our account. Two of those were for drinks that we did not order and one was for 2 meals at the Crown Grill when we had a coupon to get one of the two free. Each time the ship was very cooperative and reversed those charges without a problem or argument at the customer service desk, but each time it required standing in line and spending some of our valuable cruise time. We only caught those charges by printing out our charges on a daily basis. One of those charges was for a bucket of beer and the other was for a single beer. When we asked why we were getting charged for those drinks we were told it was most likely the bartender was paying careful attention when selling a drink to a customer using the ship’s Ocean Medallion system. Doing so he was likely using his Ipad to record the sale to the person when we happen to walk past and our ID popped up on the his screen and he didn’t notice it. He hit the charge button and we got the bill. This seems to be a real glitch in the system, particularly if the bartender isn’t paying careful attention. Both times we were never inside the confines of the bar itself. We had simply walked past at the wrong time. For this reason I would recommend everyone review their charges on a routine basis. I don’t really want to pay for someone else’s drinks when I don’t even know them.
  10. So I am Diamond with Royal and also Prime in the casino. Do any of my perks carry over if I book a Celebrity cruise?
  11. HOLLAND AMERICA BOARD'S FUTURE CRUISE LISTING Updated August 16th, 2019 We all love to hear what cruises you are booked on. I post the Bon Voyage threads 7 days before sailing so, to be included in this, you need to post your details here to allow sufficient time to be on the updated Future Cruise Listing. It’s better to post earlier than later but if it is later please post THREE weeks in advance to make sure it doesn’t get missed. We would also be interested to know if this is your first cruise, your first HAL cruise or if you are celebrating a birthday or anniversary. Details needed are in the 2nd post of this thread. Please use REPLY and not QUOTE when posting to this thread. Using 'Quote' makes a very long thread and difficult for others to read. While this list is a lot of fun, please don't mistake it for a Roll Call thread. You can go to the Roll Call Section here on Cruise Critic and find your cruise to sign up there too. That's where your Meet & Greet planning, tour sharing, and other activities specific to your cruise will be happening. This week’s additions and changes are in BOLD and highlighted in aqua (sea colours). 12. Hi All We recently returned from an Italy Intensive Voyage on the Azamara Pursuit. It was our first Azamara cruise and we loved it. In our opinion the whole experience was fantastic. We loved the white party, Amazing evening, and we were at the Best of the Best dinner which was just fantastic. We want to do an Africa sailing in 2021 and we were pretty set on booking Azamara. Our travel agent loves Oceania and Oceania has basically the same itinerary as the Azamara sailing. We have never sailed Oceania. So my question to the more experienced cruisers which do you like better? Why? Pros and cons of each? We are doing a sailing on Oceania in December in the Caribbean just to try it out as we live right in Ft Lauderdale. Some have said you can't judge Oceania by a Caribbean sailing as it the full experience but we figured we could get a feel for a bigger ship (we are sailing on the Rivera) and Oceania Any input appreciated
  13. We are interested in any information fellow cruisers may have on the differences between a handicap accessible suite and Premium suite on Royal or Regal Princess. Jan
  14. I’m looking for a cruise line that offers an adult only pool and relaxation area. I don’t mind payimg extra for the week. I’m looking for something similar to the princess’s sanctuary. Any suggestions? Not the royal Caribbean’s Solarium because kids still see to manage to come in. I want something more Private. Thank you
  15. I have been on the Carnival Ecstasy in 2008 and the Carnival Triumph in 2014 both interior rooms. My fiance will be going on her first cruise for our honeymoon next April aboard the Carnival Freedom and we have aft balcony #7453 on the Empress Deck. I have exhausted most of the internet trying to find pictures of this particular room so that I can see for myself and show my fiance. Does anyone have any pictures and/or videos of this room? Thanks in advance! -Brandon
  16. Hello, we will be sailing on the Royal in January. I know the buffet is much larger than the older ship. My questions.... Do they have bread pudding and where can I find it? Do they have cooked shrimp to make yourself a shrimp cocktail? Do they have Bavaria night and what night? What should we not miss? Thank you so much!
  17. I fly to Miami Saturday evening and will board the Empress for a 6 night getaway to Key West, Costa Maya, and Cozumel. This was (for me) something of a last minute booking, just a couple of months ago. My style is a bit different than many, I will normally post just once a day unless something unusual, and my style tends to be narrative more than pictorial. This thread will be a companion to my blog (http://getawaysfrom21044,wordpress.com) which will also be the hosting site for my photos, and at the top of the page are tabs to pages with Compass and menus. A bit about me. I’m pretty much an out of control, sailing on several lines, but mostly Crystal, Cunard, Holland America, and to a lesser extent Royal. My totals for this year will be 94 days HAL, 33 Crystal, 26 Cunard, and 6 Royal. My Royal activity has been mostly out of Baltimore (Enchantment and then Grandeur), but I’ve also sailed Allure, Anthem, Monarch, Jewel, and Radiance (not yet on the mid-size ships). I tend to prefer smaller ships although amenities and service are also important. I’m a bit unsure of the Empress as although my 3 favorite ships (Crystal Serenity, Crystal Symphony, and Prinsendam) are roughly the same size the Empress carries more people than any 2 of them combined. I hear she isn’t crowded and hope that will be true; I really like her Bermuda itineraries next year. This will be my first cruise as D+. I welcome questions although it may take me a little while to respond. I also invite any of my roll call members to add their perspectives to the thread. Roy
  18. Just wanted to write a hopefully helpful review and try to answer any questions if anyone has them.A little about me- I'm 33 and this was my 16th cruise (Most with RCCL). My husband and I traveled with his parents, his brother and sister and law, and their two sons (7 and 10). This was our first cruise as Diamond. We pre-purchased the drink package at $49 per day, the Escape Room at $20, and the Thrill Waterpark at Coco Cay for $79 per day. Overall, we had a great cruise but after the Oasis last year, and being on the Symphony this year, I think we are ready to go back to a slightly smaller ship. While the Oasis of the Seas didn't seem incredibly crowded, there were a lot of crowds on the Symphony at certain times. It didn't ruin our trip or anything, but it definitely felt like there were a lot of people on the ship most of the time (besides before 8 am). Feel free to ask any questions! Pre-cruise: We flew in to FLL a day early and stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn South Brickell. It was about $125 for one night but there was a $25 valet parking charge. They have a very nice pool area and a decent gym, but it is not really within walking distance of any restaurants or shops. It was a short and relatively cheap Uber ride to the port. Embarkation- Very fast. We had already signed in online and it took about 5 minutes from start to finish. We got to the port around 11:15 and were onboard and at the Park Cafe for lunch by 11:30. Staterooms were ready by 1. We were in 8298 (oceanview balcony) which we felt was pretty convenient. It was relatively close to stairs and it was very close to Central Park. Made it easy to go to the Trellis Bar really quick and grab a glass of wine to drink on the balcony. Only on one night did we really hear any noise from Dazzles and it did not really bother us.We ended up sailing away around 7:30 that night due to some Maintenance. This worked out well because we usually miss the sail away getting ready for early dinner. We were able to catch it this time!
  19. I have tried different browsers, but just cannot get to the booking site for Royal Caribbean on their web site. Is it me, or does their booking site have issues? any tips ?
  20. I'm on the CB right now and I've blogged this trip. If you want to read my blog: http://linfish69.blogspot.com/ One thing I forgot to post is the crew is awesome!
  21. My daughter and I are booked to go on Independence of the Seas on 8 October of this year for 11 nights. Looking at my Cruise Planner yesterday, I noticed they had the R Refreshment Package on offer for just over £18 per day, so after speaking to my daughter, I decided to book it this morning.......only to find the offer is over and it's back up to original price of £23.94!!!! All my own fault...I am so mad at myself!! Apparently the offer was only on for 7 days - 2-9August!!! 😢😢😢😢. Does anyone know how often Royal Caribbean do these offers? Are they likely to do another one before we sail in October? Or do they just do them randomly?
  22. Freedom is going into dry dock in January and February 2020. Deck plans for my March and April B2B are showing no different than pre dry dock. Crown and Anchor has no details. Anyone here have any insight? Is this going to now be the Amped Up Freedom of the Seas?
  23. Subject TL;DR here. We're actually scheduled to be taking a 7 night cruise on the Freedom of the Seas end of March next year right after they are supposed to finish the Amplified upgrades. Based on other ships getting their Amplified upgrades, any likelihood of this getting the FotS supported in the RCI mobile app? Specifically it'd be nice to have the messaging function as a known fallback in lieu of trying the various messaging apps out there without paying for the internet access on ship.
  24. I just picked up from a Roll Call (thanks amp-qld) that Royal Caribbean have had a computer glitch that has ‘wiped’ the Meet & Mingle (Cruise Critic Social) guest lists across all their brands, including Azamara. I looked at my November cruise and found that when I entered the cruise details in ‘Search for a Party’ I was told no-one had registered, so it certainly seems to be true for our cruise.
  25. Can anyone tell me who the current concierge in the Diamond Lounge is? I tried to search the forum but haven't had any luck. Thank you in advance!
