  1. Hi, can someone tell me what currency is used aboard Celebrity Solstice on a South Pacific leaving from and returning to Sydney?
  2. well our cruise is now over, and we have arrived back home to reality. we cruised from Sydney to Hawaii 3.4.15 on the beautiful solstice,so following are some of our findinds. please note, this is how we found the cruise as 65 years old husband and wife. embarkation in Sydney opt /a breeze the ship / magnificent the crew and staff / absolutely the best we have encounted on any cruise. ports of call / fabulous/ bora bora the highlight premium drinks package / well worth it food at all venues magic / murano by far the best the ship sails extremely well / very smooth even in rougher weather aqua class /terrific, but only if you use ''all'' the facilities disembarkation / another breeze two things that were the best we have ever seen, one was the grand Epernay dining room, the other was the buffet set up solstice lacks a little bit of quality when it comes to theatre entertainment, but nevertheless very good acts were onboard. overall a magnificent cruise, and we would definitely cruise on the solstice again if she was going to where we wanted to go. thank you to captain teremis for the safe rescue of the two stranded sailors half way between Tahiti and Hawaii. and a big thank you to celebrity cruises for employing the best staff ,and I mean from room attendants to officers that we have ever had on a cruise. now to save for our next holiday.
  3. Hi, we traveled last summer on the Silhouette in the Med and I seem to remember not being able to access cellular at sea with my iPhone although others who had different smart phones had no problems. We will be sailing Silhouette again this year in the Baltic and was wondering if anyone knows whether this continues to be a problem on the S class ships. Thanks for the info
  4. Hi! I want to keep up my yoga practice while on my cruise but don't want to waste suitcase space on anything but clothing and shoes. I'm wondering if there are mats and commonly used yoga props (blocks and belts) available for use in the gym on the Solstice. I've looked on the Celebrity site but haven't been able to find much info about the gym, although it looks like they have some yoga classes and some free fitness classes. Is the gym itself free to use or is there a user fee involved? I haven't sailed with Celebrity before, but I think another cruise line I was on required a $20 daily fee to use the gym. Thanks! Lisa (2 weeks till my cruise!!!)
  5. We are doing 12 day cruise from New Zealand on 12th November. We are not keen on doing the formal nights and would prefer to book into a specialty restaurant on these nights . Husband doesn't want to dress up in suit and tie so I am not going to force him I cant find any information as to when these nights are held . I can book specialty restaurants in advance but only if I nominate which dates I want . If anyone can give me a general idea if formal night are at the beginning, middle or end of cruise I would appreciate it Thanks
  6. Just curious as the 1st Seattle-Seattle cruise just got back yesterday. (5/15-5/22) Any words of advice? How was it ? Many of us here are eager to know. We board Solstice this coming Friday.
  7. We knew when we booked this cruise (South Pacific, March 2016) that we were booking a guarantee cabin but hey when you get a Balcony for the price of an Inside with the Classic Beverage Package included, and it would probably be a partially obstructed view - fine with that. Would really like to find out exactly how much obstruction we have so if anyone is familiar with Category 2D - cabin 6205 and has some information would really appreciate it. Have had a look on the spreadsheet but there isn't any info there on this cabin or one close to it. Thanks, Karen
  8. We are doing a B2B in Feb/March on the Solstice. We have cabin 1676 booked for both legs. This is an aft facing Aqua class cabin with a slightly larger balcony than the standard. We have stayed in this cabin before and liked it but it did get quite hot on the balcony in the afternoon. Just checking prices and saw that FV 8108 is available for booking for 2 people for the 2nd leg of trip. I have but a hold on it but need some advice & info: - if we book it could X come back at a later date and bump us from it for a family? - because it is a Family cabin is there more storage? - how large is the balcony & it is too windy to be useable? - is there a vanity/desk area with a mirror? Hate to stand to put on makeup😉. I have checked the cabin sticky & found a video (not great quality ) but would like to hear from others who have stayed in this cabin. Would you switch?? btw it will cost $200 more to switch. Cruise is top end of Australia in March. Thanks
  9. Is there a pool where you pay extra for a weekly pass?If so does it include a steam room and sauna. Thanks for any information.:)
  10. Please let me know your inside tips for the solstice. Please share your favorite, spot, food, restaurant, inside tips, bar, fav place, etc:)
  11. I understand we can have the cooler stocked with water, soda, and beer, and this comes with the price of the room. So what I'm asking is, what kind of beer can we expect. I have seen a lot about specialty drinks, but my husband is a beer snob. Are there craft beers on board, and if so what kind. I don't care about soda...we don't drink it, but what kind of water is provided. This is our first cruise with Celebrity. Also a little of main topic, but besides the buffet, where can you get lunch? Thank
  12. A Well Done to the Captain and the crew of the Solstice for rescuing two shipwrecked mariners in the South Pacific. http://coastguardnews.com/two-mariners-rescued-from-remote-island-in-pacific/2015/04/16/
  13. We will be on the Solstice to Alaska in September. Leaving from Seattle. This is our first trip to Alaska and are super excited, however, just browsing through the Celebrity shore excursions, I am in sticker shock over the cost of some of the excursions! We would love to get the most out of our Alaska experience, however doing so without breaking the bank. We will probably take at least a couple of the ships excursions during our 11 days, however, does anyone have other suggestions as to what to do on our own which might save us a bit of money? Thank you!
  14. Here is a nice review of the Solstice on Cruise radio. Give a listen. http://cruiseradio.net/episode-john-heald-talks-celebrity-solstice-review/
  15. Has anybody done this tour? My questions are related to the 5 night land portion. What is the quality of the train and rooms provided by Celebrity? We're not super fancy...Holiday Inn grade and better is just fine for us. Thanks
  16. Hi guys, You might be interested to know that the Solstice is the featured ship on Mighty Cruise Ships on Smithsonian channel tonight. 0600 pacific time,0900 east coast time.
  17. Can anyone please advise us which side of the ship would be best when cruising from Sydney to Honolulu? Port or Starboard? This would be in April 2016.
  18. Wondering if any other Sky Suite passengers have encountered this problem.....2 years ago, on the Solstice going from Hawaii to Sydney ( repositioning cruise on our our 25th anniversary), we were in a Sky Suite and were awakened many days at 630 or so by the rustling of chairs overhead in the Oceanview café - people starting to get breakfast.....this intermittently continued throughout the day the entire cruise....we did mentioned this to the appropriate staff....found out myself that the area right above our cabin was the small part of the Oceanview café that was NOT carpeted and was only tiled, thus making chair movement audible below...the staff tried to cordoned off this area for a few days and it made it a little better, but the roped-off area disappeared a few days later and the noise was back... I am in the initial stages of planning a 30th anniversary cruise, probably to Scandinavia, and I would like to be in another Sky Suite....has anyone else had this problem? Should I try to choose a Sky Suite that is more likely to be under a carpeted area of the Oceanview café? Should I try to get a truly aft Sky Suite at the far end of the ship on a lower level (VERY WORRIED about soot accumulation on veranda here - am I paranoid?)? I'm hoping the experienced, helpful travelers here on CC can help me out!!
  19. Hi, we're thinking of booking an inside cabin on a cruise Sydney to New Zealand, does anyone have any experience of inside cabins ?
  20. I've been on Solstice twice and am planning a cruise on the Silhouette for next year. On my previous cruises I had the bed by the bath configuration. Conventional wisdom seems to be that this is the less preferred option. Does anyone actually prefer these rooms over the bed by balcony configuration and why?
  21. I may be booking a cruise with Celebrity for the first time in about 3 years. Love the aft corner S1 I've had on two previous occasions. I have tried several mock bookings and NONE of these room ever come up as available. Have they really suddenly become that popular? I even tried a cruise in February of 2017 and entered every one of those room numbers and they came up as unavailable. Am I doing something wrong, or are they really that hot of a commodity???
  22. DH and I will have the premium alcohol package while on the Solstice in July of 2016. Is there any place on board that sells 'craft beer". DH really enjoys them. Also, as far as the Martini Bar goes, can you order other drinks there such as wine or beer?
  23. We just cruised on the Solstice from Sydney to New Zealand Jan5 sailing in an AFT aqua class cabin. We walked over from the Holiday Inn to the port and had gave them our luggage. They lost our luggage tags however and as a result the luggage did not get found until after sailaway. A real scare as we packed the meds since we thought how can it get lost if we gave them the luggage outside the ship. Never again! Stateroom attendants - great and friendly. Hansgrohe shower - great. Pillows - yea could be better. Persian Spa - did not use it. Non smoking - loved it. Blu - VERY noisy. It was difficult to have conversations at times. Service was inconsistent and sometimes quite slow. Menu was hit or miss and usually miss. We ate at all the restaurants. Aqua Spa Cafe - A pale knockoff of its former glory. Why couldn't they have Lychee ice cream more than one day in the buffet even after I asked. Silk Harvest is something I would not go back to. Sushi needs to be fresh and all their sushi just seemed to have old fish smell/taste even the cooked fish. To me it was comparable to a cheap land restaurant and not worth the copay. Tuscan was decent but the Caesar salads just don't compare to my memory of 10 years when the dressing was made table side and it was artfully created. The case dressing in all the restaurants was very watery. Haven't been on Celebrity on 10 years and the changes were quite a let down in Murano vs the old Specialty. I did like the smaller portions so we could order various item however. We ate at Murano twice and I did enjoy the various items but at twice the price of the old days the value proposition has definitely dropped. Did the cooking class on the first sea day. A lot of fun. We made a starter and entree and got to eat with the Chef. Entertainment was similar to memory. Some hits Will Martin, and Jane Cho and some misses. The Rat Pack, The Queen knockoff, and Nikki Bennett did not do it for me. I definitely made use of the drink package but I wish the drink menus listed more drinks. Things like Mudslides or Daiquiris/Margaritas were not listed, you just had to know. I miss the old custom chocolates on the pillows. The Halloween candy is a joke. The Queenstown overnight is a MUST do add on. The 7 hour bus ride nearly ruins Jetboat and TranzAlpine train ride tour. When is Christchurch going to get their port fixed. Hobbiton was gorgous. Loved the Bonorong refuge. We did the private tour and got in the cages. Overall the itinerary is a 10 but I would probably tweak things that might make me think Princess as they have more variation. 12/14/15 day sailings. I might skip Hobart and go to Brisbane/Melbourne pre-cruise. You can't hold Koalas in Tasmania but can on the mainland.
  24. Hi all - I'm scheduled for a late May/early June Inside Passage cruise on Solstice. Our itinerary has us doing the Inside passage in the evening - setting sail from Skagway at 6p, and sailing through the IP until about 10p. As it will be evening, we'd normally be eating dinner, grabbing drinks, or hitting the casino/shows around this time. But is there a particularly good location in one of the restaurants or bars that might be especially good for viewing this? Or are we better off just grabbing some of that buffet sushi at 5:30 and then viewing from the observation deck and planning a late dinner? We also will have a balcony, so could get room service delivered if that's a better option? Any advice appreciated.
