  1. Waiting for Nov 6 2019 Veendam sailing revisions from HAL … why is it taking so long … is Jun 15 still the expectation?
  2. We will be taking a 12 day Mediterranean trip on the Veendam in July. Was wondering if anyone knows if there is a self-serve laundry on board or if you need to utilize a shipboard laundry service. Do not want to over pack but want to make sure that clothes can be washed while on board. Also, can anyone provide info regarding Stern facing cabin B223 on the Verandah Deck. Does it have a nice sized balcony? Thanks for any information
  3. Hello, I have booked my 1st HAL in 15 years for a cruise that leaves Barcelona in 45 days. While my agent was booking air, a mistake was made then when he went back in the price was $100 higher. Has anyone had this happen? I'm thinking that the 1st reservation took the air out of inventory so price went up for any future bookings. Also, any tips on the Veendam would be appreciated.
  4. While HA “ know before you cruise” states that there is a self serve laundry aboard the Veendam, I’ve read a few reviews that imply that it has been removed. Any first hand recent knowledge? Departing in 10 days. Thank you all!
  5. We've cruised on Celebrity and Princess...never on Holland America. We have a choice of Princess or the Veendam on very similar cruises at very similar prices and we thought we'd give Holland America a try. Then we read the reviews 😞 Clearly there were major problems on a cuba cruise last year that soured many on the Veendam, but there were also many others talking about non working A/C, unclean public facilities and the rest. It's hard to feret out the real truth in reviews....some rave about a ship, some hate everything. I think the Veendam went to drydock in April (this year??)....which may have helped renew this older ship. I'm looking for some input on the real current state of the Veendam....and to some extent a comparison with Princess (balcony princess to standard suite on Holland America) but both with standard dining and equivalent perks.
  6. We are cruising to the Caribbean on the Veendam later this year and have booked an Oceanview cabin. Apparently there were no balcony cabins available when we booked back in January. I was wondering whether anybody has rented a fridge in this type of cabin. I gather space may be a problem. Cheers Rick
  7. Just booked one for January......for 7 days......do Canadians need to follow the rules for Americans on the ship and have organized tours that are for "cultural support the peoples of Cuba" reasons.....was looking at some tours available and get some rules from the United States Department of the Treasury Office of Foreign Assets (OFAC) .....does anyone know if this applies to us also.....thanks...
  8. Is there anyone on board the Veendam now she is out of dry dock who can advise what work was done? I am on her for a Mediterranean cruise in June and just hoping they haven’t made and significant changes to the layout. If anyone has a photo of a daily schedule from the first post dry dock cruise that would be wonderfully helpful too.
  9. HI! I'm Silvia from Italy. I wolud like to know from who sailed on Veendam if this ship has good seakeeping abilities. Our stateroom is in the mid main deck but we suffer a little sea sickness and in the past we always sailed on larger ships....Thanks in advance! Silvia Quote
  10. Just saw this on FB Veendam in Dubrovnik https://www.skylinewebcams.com/en/webcam/hrvatska/dubrovacko-neretvanska/dubrovnik/gruz-dubrovnik.html
  11. Is it true that the self-serve laundry rooms are going to be removed during Veendam’s upcoming April dry dock? I am going on a 12 day Mediterranean cruise on the Veendam in June and I was going to pack enough clothes for half of the days and do laundry on board. If I understand correctly, my other options would be unlimited laundry ($9/day or $108 for 12 days) or a single bag ($30). Is this correct?

I am on her for a Mediterranean cruise in June and just hoping they haven’t made and significant changes to the layout. If anyone has a photo of a daily schedule from the first post dry dock cruise that would be wonderfully helpful too.

  15. My husband and I will be on the Veendam next week. Our second sailing on her in less than 12 months. Our first was to Cuba in April. We loved the size of the ship and the HAL staff. We booked the same cabin as we liked the location in April. I have a couple of questions for anyone that is currently on the Veendam or recently off the ship. What are the current movies? Have you had success upgrading the SPB with Explore 4 to the Elite Beverage Package? Will the mid-level unlimited wi-fi package permit words with friends games? Thank you. BaltimoreCruise
  16. About to book the 10 day holiday Cuba cruise on Veendam. Trying to select an oceanview room. We do not like rooms on the promenade deck so our options are limited to A and Main deck. Considering G515/516 or G702/707 all at the front of the ship. The 515/516 rooms look a little smaller than most but are on a floor sandwiched between rooms and 702/707 look larger but are on a lower deck and obviously closer to engines etc. So really torn here. Also seen some negative reviews on Veendam later so that was other concern, but this itinerary looks perfect for us for Christmas Really would appreciate your thoughts as trying to book today or tomorrow.
  17. We are considering a seven night cruise to NE/Canada this fall. Both ships have the same itinerary between Montreal and Boston. I only see small differences in the ships. We prefer a balcony or small (cheap) suite. There's some difference there. Possibly an aft cabin? Same restaurants? Bars? Coffee/Crow's nest? We are not interested in the casino. If you have sailed on both what is really different?
  18. Before you get to excited about Veendam, she will only be in port to 1:00 (or at least that is her scheduled departure time) as she is headed to Freeport for dry dock. She should be arriving to pier 19 at 5:15 am. Oosterdam will be at pier 26 from 5:30-4:45. She is headed out on a 7-day Tropical Caribbean cruise. Key West, Florida (07 Apr 0800-1600); Grand Turk, Turks and Caicos (09 Apr 0800-1700); Amber Cove, Dominican Republic (10 Apr 0800-1700); Half Moon Cay, Bahamas (12 Apr 0800-1500); Fort Lauderdale, Florida (13 Apr a0700) Also in port are Independence OTS at pier 18 from 0615-1630, Crown Princess at pier 4 from 0545-1600, Celebrity Infinity at pier 25 frim 0600-1600, and Caribbean Princess at pier 2 from 0500-2000 (although one source has her leaving at 1700). The PTZtv webcams can be found at https://www.portevergladeswebcam.com/ and https://www.ftlauderdalewebcam.com/ . Eurodam will be in San Diego from 0700-1700 doing a 7-day Mexican Riviera cruise. The http://sundiegolive.com/ site is back (I wonder if it got hacked???) and there is also https://www.skylinewebcams.com/en/webcam/united-states/california/san-diego/san-diego.html. Next up: Koningsdam and Nieuw Statendam on April 7.
  19. We will be sailing on the Oct. 30th Cuba cruise with an overnight in Havana. Curious if the casino will be open that evening? We did a similar cruise on Carnival last year and the casino was closed on the overnight Havana.
  20. Hello everybody, I learned that Veendam is having a refurbishment this April. Any news what is going to be done? Thanks in advance!
  21. I have friends sailing on the April TA on the Veendam and thought I'd give her some magnetic clips and hooks for their "stuff". I'd like to know, though, if the walls are metal so the magnets will hold. Thanks very much ! Linda T.
  22. So I see a really unique cruise to Norway early June of 2020. I wish Hal was using a newer ship but they are not. The ports look really interesting. I am unsure of going on oldest ship in fleet from Amsterdam given recent reviews. Unsure if ship is up for sale and if any renovations are planned. I welcome any and all comments and advice. I have been to Norway once having seen Bergen and Alesund and Geiranger. Too bad this cruise won't go to Oslo. Is Oslo worth seeing? Thanks in advance for any help. I am intrested in N Statendam but some ports not doing what Veendam is doimg.

  24. I'm looking at booking the Veendam for a Venice to Barcelona cruise, although we already have a Barcelona to Venice cruise booked on the Celebrity Constellation. The primary reasons are that we like HAL's service, the way they handle allergies, and better buffet and lido deck experiences. For my son, however, he prefers HAL for their in-room TV programming. Does anyone know whether the Veendam has been upgraded to the on-demand TV systems? If not, do they still have DVD players in the rooms and DVDs for checkout at Guest Services? Thanks!
