  2. In connection with Carnival Corporation & plc’s (the “Company,” “we,” and “our”) actions to maximize liquidity, we previously announced, on July 10, 2020, plans to remove nine ships from our fleet in the next 90 days. The plans for the disposal of these ships are in addition to the sale of four ships, which were announced prior to fiscal 2020. We have made a decision to remove a further two ships from our fleet. These decisions are intended to align the fleet with the expected phased restart of guest cruise operations while also generating cost savings. The four reported prior to fiscal 2020: Costa Atlantica - sold to Carnival-China JV Costa Mediterranea - sold to Carnival-China JV P&O Aus Pacific Aria - sold to CMV - CMV/TransOcean into administration 20 Jul 2020/ceased trading P&O Aus Pacific Dawn - sold to CMV - CMV/TransOcean into administration 20 Jul 2020/ceased trading The nine confirmed as sold: Costa Victoria - sold for scrap P&O Oceana sold to Greek buyer for Chinese interests HAL Maasdam sold to Blue Seas Cruises but actual buyer unconfirmed as of yet HAL Veendam sold to Blue Seas Cruises but actual buyer unconfirmed as of yet HAL Rotterdam sold to Fred Olsen HAL Amsterdam sold to Fred Olsen Costa neoRomantica - sold to Celestyal Cruises Carnival Fantasy - sold for scrap, already at the Aliaga, Turkey shipyard Carnival Inspiration - sold for scrap ETA Izmir, Turkey 03 Aug Internal transfers within Carnival Group plc: Golden Princess - internal transfer to P&O Australia Star Princess - internal transfer to P&O Australia Long term layup/defacto decommissioned: Carnival Imagination - moved to long term layup; no timeline for return to service Carnival Fascination - moved to long term layup; no timeline for return to service

  4. I have seen so many topics on various lines forums on here and I had posted on another one but there are 13 officially confirmed to exit but the only one that are current and not previously planned are Costa Victoria, Oceana, Costa neoRomantica, Maasdam, Veendam, Rotterdam, Amsterdam, and now Carnival Fantasy and Carnival Inspiration. Although Carnival Fascination and Imagination are going to lay-up they will probably eventually be sold as well. That's 9 officially but more like 11 if you include those two. So there are at least two more sales forthcoming. The P&O AU ships were previously planned but now that CMV is shutdown they will probably have to find new buyers. Costa Atlantica and Mediterranea were planned to transfer to Carnival's new China joint venture even though they have still kept their names thus far. Costa neoRiviera was an internal transfer and became AIDAmira last fall. I would lean more towards them selling those two Fantasy class ships and maybe Sun Princess (1995) and Sea Princess (1998) and possibly AIDAcara (1996). With exception of the few Fantasy's and Grand Princess (1998), Pacific Princess (1999) and Volendam (1999) that would more or less put the fleets to 2000 and newer. But I have seen in reports that they could eventually sell 15 to 19 and I'm sure the longer this drags out they will keep ditching these older vessels.
  5. Since I am cruising on the Sun next year, I am following this closely. Is this the list of ships that are definitely gone from CCL now: Costa neoClassica Costa neoRiviera Costa Mediterranea Costa neoRomantica Pacific Aria Pacific Dawn P&O Oceana Costa Victoria Carnival Fascination Carnival Inspiration MS Maasdam MS Veendam So this is 13 of an expected 15?
  6. Interesting to think about, but kind of sad, too; I hadn't realized that the Marella Spirit (Nieuw Amsterdam III) had been scrapped. With the current situation, can't help but think that others will follow. Ones that I can think of, with first year I sailed on them: 1984: Song of America -> Celestyal Olympia 1985: Noordam -> Marella Celibration (?) 1991: Royal Princess -> Artania 1992: Royal Majesty -> Crown Iris 1996: Norwegian Crown -> Balmoral 1999: Norwegian Sea -> SuperStar Libra 1999: R Three -> Pacific Princess 2000: Crown Princess -> Karnika 2001: Legend of the Seas -> Marella Discovery 2 2002: Zenith -> Peace Boat (?) 2007: Pride of Aloha -> Norwegian Sky 2007: Tahitian Princess -> Sirena 2015: Rotterdam -> ? 2020: Veendam -> ?

  8. Well not to bring bad news, but their numbers kept changing from 9 to 13 and I've heard as many as 15 to 19 ships that they may get rid of. Several of the ships mentioned above were already scheduled to transfer prior to the shutdown. The only current ones are : Oceana, Costa Victoria, Costa neoRomantica, Fantasy, Inspiration, Maasdam, Veendam, Rotterdam and Amsterdam. I figure that the laid up Imagination and Fascination will end up being sold in the 60-90 days as was previously talked about. I anticipate several more departing by the end of September.
  9. Tonight's sunset is another one as we sailed away from Bar Harbor, Maine. Historic Coasts cruise on the Veendam, August 17-24, 2013.
  10. Deferred maintenance is a very valid point. I was on the Veendam July 2017, July 2018, and August/Sepember 2019. Many maintenance issues persisted over the three years. The aft elevators - very rarely did all three elevators work - there was always at least one out of service. Last summer there was a lengthy power outage as well - luckily we were docked and not mid-Atlantic. The aft pool - I think HAL just wants to forget this debacle - looking up towards the funnel - there were missing pieces of panel and railing. I commented on this three years in a row. I even sent pictures in to HAL management. The loft area was used for storage, as were portions of the upper deck going forward - making for a junk yard appearance. The metal decking was blistering, faded, and peeling. However - don’t get me wrong. Despite these issues I love the Veendam and would gladly go again. Inside maintenance - however - was spotless - the interior was always immaculate.
  11. The first and last time a small older ship, the Veendam, made it to our short list our TA warned us off based on multiple feedback from her clients. We listened and booked another ship/another cruise line. That was several years ago. As luck would have it I spoke to an older gentleman on that trip. He claimed to be a four star or whatever Mariner. His last two trips, within nine months of each other, were on Veendam. He ended up, both times, in what he claimed his steward (whom he knew well from previous trips) referred to as the 'flood zone'. AIr and flood issues both times. He was apparently not a believer in 'third time lucky". He did not seem to have an axe to grind and was quite matter of fact about it. Those two warnings made us eliminate HAL's older, smaller ships from our selection process. Not an issue because we always book a balcony cabin and the verandah offerings on those ships were seldom competitive to other offerings. There are so many other wonderful ships and cruise lines to choose from in the marketplace-including HAL's newer ships.

  13. Today I received 2 do not reply emails. One was booking confirmation and the other for payment, both for February Veendam cruise. LOL, I'm not going ! What are they up to in Seattle?
  14. Just a quick wrap up. Carnival announced 13 ships to leave the fleet. So far they've named: Costa Mediteranea, Costa Atlantica, Pacific Area, Pacific Dawn, Costa Victoria, Costa neoRomantica, Oceana, Maasdam, Veendam, Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Fantasy and Inspiration. So, I guess we won't be getting any more bad news. That is good news as well, isn't it?
  15. Good Morning, thanks for the daily. This is from a 2013 Veendam cruise. I really am missing those dam ships.

  17. Rich, in case you didn't catch it, after her stay off Limassol, Cyprus Rotterdam will be continuing on to the Damen-Verolme shipyard in her namesake city of Rotterdam in the Netherlands, ETA 10 Aug 20. No doubt refurbishing work for her new owners, Fred Olson. The work is scheduled to take one week. Unk, at this time if Amsterdam is also going there or, perhaps a German yard like Blohm + Voss in Hamburg, for the same purpose. Still no official confirmation that startup line Blue Seas Cruises are the new owners of Maasdam and Veendam Be safe everyone!
  18. Veendam had construction quality issues when I sailed on her when she was 2 years old. No knowledge about Maasdam. Amsterdam had water line leak issues during my 2008 world cruise as well as my more recent 14 day Alaskan cruise aboard her. "Rusting from within" was reported by an Officer to a President's Club member (that I have been told as being incorrect by another respected CC poster). Rotterdam, I have no knowledge. (I saw no issues during my VOV on her.) None of us know with certainty why these 4 ships were sold. I submit that their condition may well have played a part of why HAL was willing to part with them. Fred Olsen Cruise Lines has "been around the block" several times in the cruise industry. They have experience with cruise ships that have seen lots of water under their keels. They have been successful. Their decision to add Rotterdam and Amsterdam to their fleet must be a decision that they believe will further enhance their Company.
  19. Unfortunately, the writing was on the wall for small ships then? What was Signature of Excellence about? Yes, some routine refurbishment and re-branding / re-purposing of public spaces (remember The Mix?), but a good chunk of that capital was for removing pool tanks, and putting cabins beneath those spaces to increase pax capacity. Veendam went from 1258 to 1350 pax capacity, without materially changing its cost to operate. https://www.hollandamerica.com/blog/destinations/caribbean/veendam-dry-dock-update-march-30-2009/ Scott.
  20. The Veendam was a nice ship until HAL messed it up a few years ago. They should have left the AFT pool on the navigation deck. When it came back--no AFT POOL and the Navigation deck and the Lido deck overhung. It was horrible.

  22. For pure fun it was on a Sitmar Fairsky 10 day cruise in 1989, met great friends, great entertainment and activities. We participated in a Lip-sync contest and I was Bobby Darin singing Splish Splash I was taking a bath, my wife was one of 4 gals backing me up, they were called the Splash-ettes and one of them was 85 years old. One night at midnight they had a Naughty Nighty contest with guys dressing up in their wives nightmare, I don't think I ever laughed so hard. I passed as far as a contestant. As far as a great itinerary we had 2 favorites with Renaissance Cruises on the R 1 in 1999 sailing from Instanbul to Athens with stops in 5 of the Greek Island plus Ephesus. The cruise included 2 extra night each in 5 star hotels in Istanbul and Athens. What made it special was meeting my dad's first cousin who lived in Athens and a lot more of the family. Our last night they wined and dined us Greek style and al fresco at a beautiful hill top restaurant overlooking Athens until 2:30 in the morning The other great itinerary cruise was on the Veendam in 2007 round trip from Venice with stops in Messina, Rome, Florence, Pisa, Monoco, Corsica and Naples where we had a great tour of Sorrento and Pompeii. Last stop was Dubrovnik Croatia which is a fascinating walled city. We were sort of worn out after that cruise from the long tours that we had in Rome and Florence, 13 hours long but what great historic places we were able to see.
