  2. Maasdam's aft pool remains in place and is wonderful What they did to Veendam is disgrace IMO. BAD enough no pool but he mess of those ridiculous hot tubs block ALL view. A most unpleasant place to sit on Veendam. What a waste .
  3. I think it's safe to say that the internet on the Veendam is working. Roy
  4. Well... out of my 27 times with NCL, it was 3 times in The Haven/Courtyard. But anyhow: no matter if I am staying in an inside stateroom or in the Courtyard Villa: if I am dialing on EVERY NCL SHIP FLEETWIDE 8888 I have the Hotel Director right on his phone or if he is not able to attend, I have his secretary. By the way: it was you who started to compare NCL / HAL: My observations right now from VEENDAM: You get the same empty bread plate and butter knife like with NCL and bread only on request for lunch: Both removed the tray service for Danish and you have to asked for it... and while NCL has peppermills on every table of the MDR... You have this here on VEENDAM and none is showing up anymore with a peppermill unless you are asking for. But as said: It was a different HAL in 2016 when I had my last sailing with. Too many changes. Before many things were offered with out the need to ask for and many nice things were just withdrawn without replacement like I had a long list what made HAL better than any other. But this list getting smaller and smaller compared to others... and the first time: MSC and Costa are appearing on my list what they are doing better than HAL... As said: this is my list - and what is important to me and what I am willing to pay to get MY outstanding unforgettable experience and making me coming back to HAL. Normally the first action before I am moving to my cabin: grabbing a form for the FCD. This time I might need to wait until the end of the cruise.
  5. Maybe Holland America Line is returning to Tampa! The Veendam is now scheduled to arrive Nov 3, 2020 from a 14 day Atlantic crossing. It is also scheduled for 2 holiday sailings, both 7 day cruises to Belize, Honduras, Guatemala , and Costa Maya, Mexico in Dec 2020. HAL hopefully is working on some longer cruises for it from Tampa, as it did have 14 day itineraries in the past. Plus it now has to compete with Celebrity's Constellation which will be doing 10 and 11 days. Cuba from Tampa would be a good choice if and when that reopens.
  6. I would love to see the Veendam resume the Boston/Bermuda run. That was a unique cruise docking in downtown Hamilton. We were disappointed to miss it this summer.
  7. On the Veendam we had a toilet that regularly wouldn't flush for several hours after it was needed. We survived.
  8. I suspect that HAL will spend as little as possible on this ship. They will try to suck out as much revenue and profit as they can in the short term. When one of their next generation of their ships enters service , they will dump Veendam in a heartbeat. My guess is that this is HAL's new reality.
  9. Yes. The S class ships and the Rotterdam had the aft pools on the Navigation deck On these two ships they took the aft pool out and lengthened the Lido deck but without an aft pool. the Veendam has the back end hanging out over the rest of the ship. They put in a "lazy river" but that, I understand has been eliminated. Personally, I think they should have left it alone.
  10. Is the Veendam one of the ships that butchered the aft pool area?

  12. Loved it! We were on the Veendam with the same great captain that we had for the Voyage of the Vikings. I was thinking the other day I'd love to repeat this. We went to Carnival in Rio. It is amazing but once was enough for that. Just too late for me. We saw four of the parades but the winning was one of the final two that performed after 3 a.m. Loved all of the ports on the Amazon. Some of those on the coast of Brazil are underwhelming and can be a bit dangerous if one goes out on your own. I'd stick to excursions on the coast.
  13. Well we enjoyed the Maasdam a few years back so I guess we should also enjoy sailing on the Veendam later this year....not too big, not too small. Rick
  14. Don't think there's a Full charter on the Veendam on Nov. 20th 2019 even with being listed on above list.
  15. I saw a CC post that the Veendam has a full ship charter starting Nov 3, when it arrives from its Trans-Atlantic.
  16. If they just changed the destination they are probably developing the itineraries out of Tampa. I will guess that HAL will keep the Veendam until after the elections to see if there's a possibility of resuming Cuba cruises. Roy
  17. This is the end of the itinerary from my October 2020 transatlantic cruise. No other cruises for Veendam is showing up after it docks in Tampa on November 3rd. They cut the cruise short to be in Tampa on the 3rd. Who knows? Monday, November 2 At Sea No activities are booked for this day. Need to book? Spa Category Specialty Dining2020-11-02 Indulgences Tuesday, November 3 Tampa, Florida, US Arrive: 7:00 AM No activities are booked for this day.
  18. Veendam is too big to take over the Prinsendam's smaller ports. The Veendam can take over some of the ports Prinsendam sailed to, though.
  19. I have no idea why you would say this Greg, the Veendam is definitely NOT a terrible ship. The Veendam and her sister Maasdam are my 2 favoite ships in the fleet. To each their own but please just say what you do or don't like.
  20. According to the Future Cruise Consultant on the Amsterdam, Veendam will be taking over some or most of the Prinsendam’s itineraries, and going to the smaller ports.
  21. While she is an older ship and will never have some of the newest tech and gadgets, it did sound (from recent reports) that many of the problems reported in the past few years have been remedied in the latest refurb. Tampa home port is exciting! We loved the size and charm of her sister Maasdam and would happily cruise on Veendam should the right itinerary and price come down the road. A cruise ship that still feels like a ship is a novelty now, which is sad.
  22. Sounds like you are on the Veendam collector cruise. On the second half of the cruise (transatlantic). They removed 3 ports Toulon, Barcelona, and Cadiz. They also made the stay at Funchal one day leaving at 4:00pm. The transatlantic is now 14 days instead of 17 and will now arrive in Tampa November 3, 2020 instead of Ft. Lauderdale on November 6, 2020. My new statement from my TA the cruise price went down $900.00 and they added ship credit and a dinner for 2 at the pinnacle grill. We already had prepaid gratuities and it remained.
  23. It doesn't sound it from what you have posted. It does sound like HAL will be home porting a ship in Tampa again, and that is good news indeed! To answer the point of your question, though, the Veendam has been up for sail for years now. I'm sure that if HAL got an acceptable offer they would accept.
