  1. Those are the wheelchair ones. Obviously we were given wrong info about the showers. I was hoping for a walk in glass shower. I guess the Volendam has the little sink but not sure about Rotterdam, or I think it was Veendam that was also the same class.
  2. I am rather anxiously awaiting the verdict as well. Our cruise is for December 18 on the Veendam. Thankfully, I had not done anything about flights, so they are also waiting in the wings. However, I have an AirBnB booked for after the cruise as a placeholder between cruises (we depart again on Jan 5 for South America), so if we change cruises or cancel the Veendam altogether, we'll be in a bit of pickle. I'm sure the whole thing is a logistical nightmare for the cruise lines. It's a mess for me, and we're just two people planning one trip.
  3. Waiting for Nov 6 2019 Veendam sailing revisions from HAL … why is it taking so long … is Jun 15 still the expectation?

  5. I've only had problems with noise when in decks below The Lido area. The scraping/moving of deck chairs drove me crazy while I was trying to take a nap. Also once on the Veendam we had an aft cabin above the Main Dining Room and could hear music at times, it wasn't a big deal and never at times that I would be resting/sleeping/napping.

  7. Hello, I have booked my 1st HAL in 15 years for a cruise that leaves Barcelona in 45 days. While my agent was booking air, a mistake was made then when he went back in the price was $100 higher. Has anyone had this happen? I'm thinking that the 1st reservation took the air out of inventory so price went up for any future bookings. Also, any tips on the Veendam would be appreciated.

  10. We also cruised the Oosterdam from Tampa in November, 2016. 21 days and a great cruise. We were on the Rotterdam from Tampa in 2018 for a similar itinerary. The problem with the Rotterdam is the cabins they call Vista Suites, with correspondingly higher suite prices, would be considered just plain veranda cabins on the Oosterdam and other Vista class ships. The cabins are a wee bit longer, and so are the balconies but they are a far cry from a similar priced Signature Suite on the larger ships. Unfortunately, the Veendam is also configured the same way, Veranda cabins being called Vista Suites and priced accordingly. The only benefit you get with a Vista Suite on a ship like the Veendam or Rotterdam is the double day credits for Mariner status. We are already 4-star, and the extra benefits of 5-star do not justify the thousands extra for a "Vista Suite".
  11. I sailed the Veendam out of Tampa in February 2003 and February 2009, so it was during that decade at least that the Veendam called Tampa its winter home.
  12. Thank you all. Got a question- does P'Dam have any warm/hot tubs? I'm rethinking my packing and my swimsuit (and a few other things) is up for reconsideration. On the deck plans I see some whirlpools in the Lido and Seaview Pool areas. We don't use the spa, so it would be one elsewhere in a "public" area. Am thinking the weather will be too "crisp" for swimming in the pool. I loved the hot tub on the Veendam in Antarctica....
  13. We are also disappointed that HAL will no longer be sailing from Tampa; it was our yearly guaranteed cruise, as we live less than an hour away. We have been on 7, 14 , and 21 day cruises , so it fit whatever schedule we had for that particular year. Veendam did sail out of Tampa several years ago, but I can't remember when; I think it was after the Ryndam, which was tin Tampa for years.

  16. There's a bunch of Boston folks who are hoping the Veendam will be home-ported there for Bermuda cruises. So, we Tampa cruisers have competition.
  17. If the Veendam goes back to Bermuda we will book that in a heartbeat. That itinerary is truly relaxing for us since we are 30 minutes from the port in Boston.
  18. Here is the latest update of the Dry Dock, Charter and Groups file. It is a bit of a 'work in progress' at the moment because the situation regarding Veendam and the cancelled Cuba cruises is still unclear. Also there is some uncertainty as to Rotterdam/Zaandam/Amsterdam getting Billboard on Board and whether it will be a full dry dock (with additional maintenance being done) or a wet dock. The file consists of information gathered from the internet or information kindly posted on these threads by other cruisers and should not be considered a complete indicator of group activity. If you have information about groups charters or dry docks then please post here and I will update in the next file. 20. As one who had a Veendam cruise to Bermuda booked, and then canceled, when she was re-scheduled for Cuba, I offer that Bermuda would be a good choice for future Veendam cruises. What I found odd was that the first visit to a Cuba port by Veendam was in July, seems a tad hot. Perhaps they wanted to take travel agents who would then promote the Dec January cruises?

  22. No. But this was a nice line 12-15 years ago. We still tried other cruise lines and vacation modes. And we found better options. the OP mentioned Veendam. Last saw that ship a year ago and noted a huge gash in the white metal aft. I remember thinking thank God I’m not on that ship. Then we talked to a couple of their passengers who said the saving grace was that the ship was only 2/3 full and the price was low.
  23. I had considered going with a group to Cuba next January but the cost of the 7-day cruise on the Veendam was a little steep for what was basically a 7-day Caribbean cruise. Now this group is not going to Cuba at all and I'm wondering how these passengers will feel after paying extra $ (other 7-day similar cruises are much cheaper) to go to either Nassau/Half Moon Cay instead of Havana? Even a $100 OBC wouldn't be worth it. HAL executives must be going nuts trying to figure out what to do and not lose lots of $$$ over this.
  24. We were also sad to see the Rotterdam leave Tampa as we live just 45 minutes from the Port of Tampa. We cancelled our Veendam Cuba cruise the other day and wondered if it was a possibility to bring the Veendam to Tampa. It fits the size of ship that can fit under the Sunshine Bridge. We dislike having to drive to Ft. Lauderdale for our HAL cruises.
  25. That's a possibility ok, however Veendam was alternating between Cuba and Eastern Caribbean out of Port Everglades during the 'Cuba Season'. To move to Tampa would mean cancelling the Eastern Caribbean cruises from PE. They are currently still available to book although January, February and March 2020 are not available to book.
