If you have a personal or hobby CRUISE or TRAVEL BLOG, include the url here:

  1. Personally I liked Ryndam the best. Loved Veendam until they added the bump on the stern. (I never thought that was well done), but all the S Class ship were really nice.
  2. Veendam had the better Crow's Nest. The rear pool was removed to add more verandah rooms however.
  3. We sailed on all the Statendam class ships except the Statendam. They were classic ships and if you asked me which of the Veendam, Ryndam and Maasdam was the best and favorite of mine, it was a 3 way tie. Right now I'd have to say that the Eurodam and Nieuw Amsterdam are our favorites.
  4. today is Defy Superstition Day, Fortune Cookie Day, and Grandparents Day A psychiatrist is a person who will give you expensive answers that your wife will give you for free. Meal suggestion for today - Brown Sugar Salmon with Strawberries Drink of the Day - Tropical Itch Wine of the day - Farella Cabernet Sauvignon Coombsville vintage 2015 At Sea Atlantic Eurodam destination Sint Eustatius eta 9/15 Nieuw Amsterdam destination Sint Eustatius eta 9/14 Volendam destination Scheveningen eta 9/14 Fuerte Amador Panama Koningsdam Oosterd
  5. YXU AC*SE's nomination of Chardonnay Sisters threads get my vote of approval. I enjoyed all the live threads from world cruisers and admire anyone who can keep them current and interesting for four months. Kween Karen's live world cruise threads were great and the thread about her trials with her travel agency must have been near the top for drama. Not a thread, but one post stands out from all others, Shimp56's short answer to what is below A deck on the Veendam: "There "B" dragons."
  6. Eastern Canada is down 1 vessel due to sale of Amsterdam - so a 50% reduction. Alaska so far remains mostly unchanged with 6 ships in the region (down from 7 due to sale of Maasdam) - Eurodam/Oosterdam r/t Seattle, Konigsdam/Volendam r/t Vancouver and Nieuw Amsterdam/Noordam on the N/S Vancover/Whittier sailings. The 14 day Alaska will not operate in 2021. This of course could change. The biggest region affected by the sale of the 4 ships and delay of Rotterdam VII (nee Ryndam) was Europe with a net loss of 2 ships (Veendam and Rotterdam VI ) and a slip in delivery of
  7. today is Chocolate Milk Shake Day, National Video Games Day, and National Day of Encouragement If I have seen farther than others, it is because I was standing on the shoulders of giants. -- Isaac Newton Meal suggestion for today - Sausage & Feta Stuffed Tomatoes Drink of the Day - Chichi Wine of the day - Greywacke Pinot Noir Marlborough vintage 2014 At Sea Atlantic Eurodam destination Sint Eustatius eta 9/15 Nieuw Amsterdam destination Sint Eustatius eta 9/14 Volendam destination Scheveninge

  9. The "Fat Lady" has yet to "sing" regarding the future of many ships, our Statendam included, I think. It boggles my mind to think that Seajets, as a Ferry company, has the financial capacity to begin an entirely new cruise line with our Veendam and Maasdam, let alone adding Statendam. In the current tourist industry depression: someone(s) in Greece must have a crystal ball that the Executives at CCL and RCI don't have.
  10. Veendam's older sister, the Statendam, is docked in Tilbury, UK, awaiting bids. It may be possible that all 4 of the S class ships could end up with the same owner.
  11. Today is Sewing Machine Day and Swap Ideas Day Meal suggestion for today - Grilled Tilapia Piccata Drink of the Day - Hawaiian Sunset Wine of the day - Hamilton Russell Chardonnay Hemel-en-Aarde Valley vintage 2017 At Sea Atlantic Eurodam destination Sint Eustatius eta 9/15 Nieuw Amsterdam destination Sint Eustatius eta 9/14 Volendam destination Scheveningen eta 9/14 At Sea Pacific Koningsdam destination Balboa eta 9/9 Oosterdam destination unknown at this time Gibraltar Westerdam Limassol Cyprus Noordam Zuiderdam Ro
  12. Deep enough to have bought Maasdam and Veendam
  13. Roy, I have been reporting this since Monday. As soon as MT ceases to respond to Maasdam and Veendam I will delete them from the list. I will follow the same protocol with Amsterdam and Maasdam, although a similar notice does not show on their pages yet.
  14. I think that's been happening for several days now, and MT will always respond to Maasdam and Veendam. The real change will I'm sure will come soon. Their official recognition of the renaming will be recognized 2 ways: 1. When you search for Maasdam instead of the next line being "Passenger ship" it will say Ex Name(IMO Number) 2. If you hover over the icon on the map it will show the new name. Here's an illustration for the Wilderness Adventurer, originally the Caribbean Prince. I searched for Caribbean Prince in Marine Traffic: The ship hasn't

  16. Good to see the Volendam is alongside in Gibralter. Looks like there is a fuel barge next to her now. Wonder where she goes next? The weather extremes out west are indeed severe. Climate change at its worst. Key West from the Veendam, March 2017.
  17. today is International Literacy Day, Natonal Ampersand Day, and National Date Nut Bread Day To every Ph.D. there is an equal and opposite Ph.D. -- B. 18. Hi Maya. Nice to se your pics and comments. We were also looking at the Veendam's up coming itineraries and like many of them. HAL had scheduled her for some rather unique places, partly as they had lost those of the Prinsendam. I am as sad about loosing the S and R class ships as I am loosing those special itineraries.
  19. We were on the Veendam, Boston to Bermuda, in June 2018 and appreciated docking in Hamilton. I loved the ship and the crew so much I immediately checked where she was going in the future. We took a Greek island cruise on her in May 2019. On the Bermuda cruise, I asked Mike at the Martini bar to make a drink based on one served during the last dinner on the Titanic. My murder mystery centering on a Titanic re-creation dinner had just come out and I'd been asked to blog about drinks on that ship. Mike not only whipped up a cocktail from my recipe but also hummed the Titanic movie theme while he
  20. today is Labor Day, National Salami Day, Neither Rain nor Snow Day, and National Beer Lover's Day $100 invested at 7% interest for 100 years will become $100,000, at which time it will be worth absolutely nothing. -- Lazarus Long, "Time Enough for Love" (Robert Heinlein) Meal suggestion for today - Zucchini & Cheese Roulades Drink of the Day - Hurricane Wine of the day - di Meo Greco di Tufo G vintage 2016 At Sea Atlantic Eurodam destination Sint Eustatius eta 9/15 Nieuw Amsterdam destination Sint Eustatius eta 9/14 Volendam
  21. Veendam in San Diego 20 JAN 2015: Sometimes "As You Wish" meant "Wait For a Table". Remember fresh squeezed orange juice?
  22. There are a lot of people in the same (sic) boat that were sailing on sold ships this fall. (Veendam) I used FCC to pay for them and they show as "other credits". I was-expecting to see the FCC applied to a cruise booked next summer at some point. Maybe after the date passes for sold ship cruises?
  23. today is Fight Procrastination Day, Read a Book Day, and National Pet Rock Day Hummingbirds never remember the words to songs. 24. this is my list of menus I own in my collection: I collect menus, I have maybe a little over 150 menus from various lines: Holland America Line: Statendam 1962, Nieuw Amsterdam 1970, Veendam 1984 Cunard: Ivernia 1961, Lancastria 1939, Queen Mary Gala Dinner 1958 Matson: Matsonia 1960 Grace Line: Santa Paula 1963 Home Lines: Oceanic 1971, Homeric 1988 Italian Line: Andrea Doria 1953, Michelangelo 1967 Sitmar: Fairwind 1977 French Line: France 1972 Alaska Steamship Lines: All Ships 1941 P&O: Canberra 1965, Oronsay 1966 Greek Line:
  25. We did - great trip. Fourth time on Veendam (and didn’t realize at the time it would be our last). Here’s our view of you...
