  1. We’re cruising in June. I cruised on the Sunshine after its renovation and name change, but was new to Carnival and so had no comparison. I know they will be adding some restaurants. I assume they will be upgrading the staterooms. Do they also upgrade the stateroom bathrooms? How about the pool areas? The itinerary and the fact that we can drive to NYC for boarding were why we booked- the ship was the 3rd. I’m only curious about how much was actually renovated on previous ships.
  2. Liberty - was a floating rust bucket. Hated the cruise. Rude staff. Rude passengers. Dirty ship. Food sucked. Just a BAD cruise. Couldn’t wait for it to end. Glory - didn’t hate it, but it was the least memorable of all the cruises I’ve been on. It was a good cruise, just not a great cruise. Pride - was convenient to sail out of Baltimore and not have to fly, but again I was not impressed. Which is strange cause I absolutely loved the Miracle. I liked the Breeze, Victory, Miracle, & Freedom the most, but would probably only sail the Breeze again.
  3. Great info, thanks! I'll be on Victory, so probably will have the older card readers.

  5. I was on this ship/itinerary i last Feb and am doing it again this coming Feb. I am taking two brand new cruisers with me and specifically chose the cruise because I think it’s a great introduction. The Victory is a good in between ship IMO. It’s not really big with all the bells and whistles but it has plenty of amenities like a good sized comedy club, alchemy, high ceiling lobby etc. Plys, those ports are great for newbies IMO. Easy transportation, friendly locals, good variety of excursions.
  6. I did that cruise last December for a quick pre winter getaway. We had a great time, been to both places before but was dirt cheap cruise. Just walked around Key West and went to Paradise Beach in Cozumel. The Victory was a fun boat to be on. Was great till the last night when we had somebody get drunk and jump off the boat around the middle of the keys, got woken up by announcements looking for him every 10 minutes and we ended up getting back to Miami 7 hours late.
  7. Hi All! We just got home off the Victory and had a great sailing. Just wanted to point out some changes I noticed. I'm in no way complaining, just providing some info: 1. We did not get a coupon for our free drink for being Gold. We did get the paper welcoming us with the pin and our water and listing our benefits, but the usual coupon was not on the bottom. I thought maybe they had streamlined the process and would give a credit to our S&S or maybe give it the last day, but no. Don't know if this was a fluke or pilot for some VIFP changes, but just saying. 2. I can confirm that there is now a 3rd green spot "B" on the roulette wheel. I had seen a thread a few weeks back asking. We were on the Magic in March and this was definitely not there, so maybe they're rolling it out slowly. 3. Elegant night didn't have lobster or filet as an option. Mind you this was a 3 day cruise and we don't usually eat in the dining room so this may just be news to me. I happened to check the menu and notice - I thought one of these was offered at elegant night. 4. Disembarkation process has changed slightly. Our CD really stressed people check out the disembark show to get the details. Basically they don't deliver your luggage tags to your room anymore. You have to go pick them up and select either early or late disembark. Our debark was a nightmare. I don't think it was the new/old process, just people in general going to the lobby at whatever time instead of when called. I've noticed the past few times this has gotten progressively worse. Not sure what Carnival can do to improve that.
  8. My “Your Mileage May Vary” Section This is the section where I give my thoughts about the ship, the itinerary, the entertainment, and passengers. As I said above, your mileage may vary. The ship: We never sailed on Triumph, but we sailed on Victory four times. There were vestiges of the old Triumph “World” theme: globes on the stairway railings, on the glass doors, and in the atrium high up. I have hopes for Victory’s seahorses, at least in a few places. I’m not sure how I feel about Carnival’s “cookie cutter” approach to interior ship design. Every new ship or re-designed ship gets Liquid Lounge, Limelight Lounge, Red Frog, Alchemy, etc. While I always looked at some of Joe Farcus’ designs and wondered “What was Farcus thinking?” I always appreciated the unique designs and themes he used. I’m going to miss Victory’s “seven seas” theme. However, the new designs are fresh and we never lacked for comfortable lounges someplace. As with Sunshine, the main theater is now a two-deck Liquid Lounge, with movable seating on deck 4 and balcony seating on deck 5. I didn’t like it on Vista or Horizon and don’t like it on Sunrise – chairs too close together and no tables for drinks. But that’s okay – the only times we went to the Liquid Lounge on this trip were for the muster drill and Chris Williams’ evening show. No Playlist Productions. We just find other, more comfortable, places to go. What was once the cigar bar is now the Limelight Lounge. All things considered (read: no cigar smoking inside anymore), this is a good use of what was terribly underutilized space. When we sailed on Glory, this space was empty and sad. Again, though, movable chairs and no tables for drinks unless you sit near the bar. We didn’t have a problem getting seas for the early show. Red Frog/Alchemy: I’m putting these together because they really share space on deck 5, across from each other on the main walkway. Red Frog is a very comfortable lounge, with lots of seating, games, and a stage. This was the main daytime trivia location (a couple of earlier trivia games were in the atrium) and also hosted a band in the evening. Unfortunately, it was also the location for karaoke. If you were sitting in Alchemy in the early evening, you'd end up listening to it. Some of these folks sounded like our Manx cat sounded when we had to give him a flea bath.😀 I’d much prefer that they schedule karaoke in an enclosed lounge, where those who like it can attend and the rest of us can avoid it. Aside from karaoke, we liked Alchemy a lot and gravitated there at other times. Okay, on to the drinks in these bars. Red Frog now has three of Carnival’s brews on tap: Thirsty Frog, an IPA, and Farmhouse Amber. I like all of them, but I’m rather partial to Farmhouse. At Alchemy, I opted for the Spicy Chipotle Martini – yum. Cabin: Deck 9 balcony. The cabin was very nicely redone and added USB ports. Nice cabin – the one thing I noticed was noise from people coming In from Lido. We’ve had a Deck 9 cabin before, even closer to the Lido entrance, and didn’t have noise. I just attribute it to this being a four-day cruise with more of a party atmosphere than a longer cruise. Our cabin steward, Francis, took great care of us; we opted for twice a day service with an ice bucket. DH needed to ice down his foot periodically, and Francis offered to bring ice packs for him – but the ice bucket was fine. Francis took great care of us. Food: A subjective subject. Overall, I was happy with both the selection and the quality. For breakfast, we went with the buffet, despite the lines. DH likes omelets, so he just went to the omelet line which moved well. I don’t eat much for breakfast, so two days I opted for the “express” line where I could get some fruit and one day I stood in the long main line so I could get cereal. Hated the coffee on Lido (and at brunch, for that matter) - but since we had Cheers, we could get coffee from the coffee bar at no extra charge, and we frequented Java Blue often. We varied lunch. Two days I had a Guy’s Burger. My choice is a Plain Jane with cheese and mushrooms from the toppings bar. Another day we went to brunch in the dining room; DH had huevos rancheros and I had a chicken Caesar salad. We both tried Lucky Bowl and liked it a lot. And DH had the clam chowder from the Seafood Shack. Overall, Carnival has really good lunch choices – we didn’t even get to Bonsai, Cucina, or Pizza. I liked lunch on Sunrise better than the buffet lunch on QM2. Dinner each night was early seating in Reflections. It had the usual menu items, which we’ve always enjoyed. The one thing I didn’t like was the last night’s dessert gave a choice of only Baked Alaska or Warm Chocolate Melting Cake. DH usually gets the low-sugar dessert, but that wasn’t offered (he went with the cheese plate instead). One thing I noted is that we were never offered coffee with dessert – but then again, we never asked. We just went to the coffee bar. Entertainment: The only shows DH and I went to were Chris’ “Flying Scotsman” show and one comedy show. No Playlist Productions shows – overall, I’ve never been crazy about them, although we saw one on Horizon that I really liked. The music venues available were good and we like listening to music. With a four-day cruise it’s a little hard to evaluate all the available offerings.
  9. Does any one know where the Coffee Bar is on Victory?
  10. Destiny, Triumph and Victory in that order. Victory doesn’t change to Radiance until next year.
  11. We just got off of the Victory (8/23/2019) yesterday and we had an AMAZING time! It was our first time sailing with Carnival and we went into it not expecting much, but the Victory exceeded our expectations! We have previously cruised with Celebrity, Princess, Royal Caribbean and NCL. Celebrity was our favorite cruise and our next one would actually be our cruise on the Victory 🙂 Our room was clean, service was amazing and the food was outstanding...at least on the Victory! And we honestly didn't think she was "out of shape/date."
  12. Wonder why a tug is attached to Victory's stern in Miami this morning? Does anybody know? Cheers D

  14. Taking the grandchildren on this cruise next week. We plan on eating in the Lido buffet most of the time, but I would like to go to the MDR at least once. Any suggestions as to which night? The first day may be a problem, because we want to them to at least try out the kid's clubs. Key west day might be good, since we'll be on the ship most of the day. Then we stop in Cozumel and I think we may eat dinner in town. That leaves the Sea Day. We're definitely letting the kids run the show on this trip; buffet, burgers, club vs no club etc. Anyone have the menus?
  15. There are many reasons to purchase FTTF. On my first cruise on the Victory we purchased it mainly for the priority boarding and we didn't go to the cabin because the door was shut with a sign saying the cabins would be ready at 1:30. I know now to look on cruise boards but at the time I only went on the Carnival site and they don't have a lot of details. Carnival just says the stateroom will be ready so how would you know to just open the door unless you see one of the stewards. The other thing that's confusing is when to board. The wording says you must select a boarding time so as a new cruiser you wouldn't know to know to ignore that and come when you want.

  20. I was on Victory a few weeks ago and had a great time as always. Disappointed that Victory is going to be refurbished and the name changed to Radiance. I wish they were going to keep Victory the same as she is now. I have a bad feeling next year this and other sites are going to have lots of bad reviews on Radiance similar to the current reviews on Sunrise.
  21. As far as Carnival ships we have been on the Victory, Sunshine and Paradise in that order. It may have been itinerary related as we sailed the Paradise to Havana, but we had no issue ever finding a place near the pool or in the Serenity area and while there were lines in the buffet area at times, they were nowhere near what we experienced on the Victory. We had a great time on the Paradise and would sail her again with no hesitation.

  23. Anyone have comments on the new Victory Itinerary? As of now they no longer overnight in Nassau. You have the sea day on Saturday and then a short stay in Nassau on Sunday. A bunch of places were closed due to it being Sunday. The restaurant I always go to was closed, I saw several stores closed. You get there at 8am and have to be back by 4:30pm, no more late nights off the ship.
  24. We sailed on victory last week. My husband isn’t near as picky as me and he thought the buffet and dining room was awful. The burgers at guys and the pizza were the best food we had on the cruise. The first night we tried the buffet, we decided to try the dining room the second night. After a couple of bites of food, I choked and our our waiter stood nearby and did nothing. Lucky for me another passenger told my husband what to do. We had a great time other than that and will cruise again, but wondered if the food is about the same quality on all the ships.
