  1. Hi fellow hal cruisers. Have been reading where some of the older ships owned by carnival Corp may be sold or scraped. Do you think the volendam could be one as it is quite old.
  2. The Volendam is making another of her stops in Port Everglades for refueling and reprovisioning. She is due to meet the pilot at 06:30 and should come on camera roughly 7AM, going to pier 26, port must. She will be preceded by Island Princess a half hour earlier going to pier 19. The 2 Carnival ships are still in port at terminals 2 and 4. Departure is scheduled for the Volendam at 16:30, Island at 17:00, and Carnival at 20:00, almost certain to be changed. Both the Volendam and Island will eventually be making crew repatriation voyages to the Philippines, Indonesia, India and South Africa. I just looked and the Fort Lauderdale webcams are still out of service so the only cam available will be the main Port Everglades one: https://www.portevergladeswebcam.com/ Roy
  3. The Ms Volendam has left Jakarta and is on her way to Manila, arrival June 9..
  4. Had checked in on the ships out in the anchorages where the ships have been hanging out south of Grand Bahama earlier today and noticed there was a lot of tender activity between the ships. Today was apparently the day that crew was moved accordingly for their rides home. They have all 3 left the area where they have been with a destination showing up on their AIS. Nieuw Amsterdam says Durban, South Africa. Volendam lists Bridgetown (probably Barbados) and Veendam is now en route to St. Thomas. They are all 3 doing 15- 17 knots located south of Abaco. Here's hoping a safe journey home for everyone and a safe return of the 3 ships in the fall. Will give me something to do to follow their journey. Eurodam is into her journey across the Pacific and in tandem with the Royal Princess and Carnival Panorama northeast of the Hawaiian Islands. This is also to bring crew home. Stay safe and healthy everyone. www.marinetraffic.com https://www.cruisemapper.com/
  5. The Volendam is outside Port Everglades on the way in with a 7:15 arrival to terminal 26 and 17:00 scheduled departure although that is very variable. Also in port will be Coral Princess at terminal 2. The webcams are at .. https://www.ftlauderdalewebcam.com/ and https://www.portevergladeswebcam.com/ Roy
  6. This new video appeared in my FB feed:
  7. Volendam is scheduled to arrive in Ft Lauderdale at 5 AM on Friday, March 20. NOTE: this could change and she may arrive during the night. She is scheduled to be at pier 26. Links: The PTZtv webcams can be found at https://www.portevergladeswebcam.com/ and https://www.ftlauderdalewebcam.com/.
  8. I received an upsell email yesterday, 6 days before we set sail on the 7 day Inside Passage to Alaska on the Volendam out of Vancouver. We booked cabin HH7086 last June for $1299 and then added explore 4 for $200. I was excited for this cabin since it was the next best thing to a verandah without the cost (~$2800 when I booked). This is our first cruise on HAL and to Alaska. I called the number and HAL offered an upgrade for $199 pp. They gave me a choice of 3 different Vista Suites: A7054, B6225 & B6228. The last two are handicap accessible. We took B6225. I think we did pretty good on the price overall. What to you experienced HAL cruisers think? Does anyone have experience with cabin 6225 or a Vista Suite in general? I noticed it was over the dining room but hopefully that isn't a problem. There is also access to the aft deck on 6 which is a bonus.
  9. We are scheduled on the 4/29/20 cruise to Alaska out of Vancouver. I have been trying to be patient and give them time to sort all of this out. Have been on here several times and read suggestions about waiting til we are closer. However, as I am reading about people's experiences, deadlines, etc with further out dates, I AM SUPER NERVOUS, as I have heard NOTHING from Holland America. No email, no nothing. Can anyone tell me what my options are. Guess I'll be calling later?
  10. We are on the tail end of the 2020 South America/Antarctic Grand Voyage. We have no people with health issues on the ship and they instituted protocols similar to when Noro hits about 5 days ago. We hit all the ports without an issue up until Devils Island which was scheduled for 14 March but the French said there were cases on the island so we did not stop. Today we were in Barbados and they had no reported cases. As we were getting ready to leave this afternoon the Capt announced that we were cancelling our remaining 2 ports and heading directly back to Ft Lauderdale and would arrive at 7am on Friday 20 March instead of Sunday 22 March. He stated that this was for 2 reasons. One is that the virus had been reported in both countries and also that the USA would not accept Europeans in the port after 20 March. We are currently doing 18 knots and going between St Lucia and St Vincent heading to FLL. The ship has given everyone 24 hours of free wifi and also opened the room phones to make free calls. The crew is still in a good mood and the Capt is keeping us informed and he and the senior staff are out and about answering questions. Considering the continuous changing situation I think HAL is doing a good job for the guests and crew.
  11. Why in the world am I getting Express Docs emails from HA instead of an email saying...ok, here's the plan...???
  12. Since this ship is in Brazil now and increased cases of corona virus is in Brazil do you think these passengers might have restrictions in us when disembarking? Know someone on this cruise and thought might want to stay away from them for a period of time.
  13. Hello, My husband and I will be on the Volendam for a Panama Canal cruise in April. Hubby's birthday will be the day we go through the canal. Any ideas for a special 'thing' we can do that day? I was wondering if I sign us up for one of the special dining rooms I could have a special desert ordered? I'm not sure of options. Any help would be appreciated. We've never sail HAL before, I loved the itinerary for the cruise.
  14. *** NOTE*** I am posting this on Friday night and by Sunday some of the times and even piers may change. It is another full house in Port Everglades with eight cruise ships. 15. Hi. Can anyone please advise as to what lunch opportunities there are likely to be. And is there a "best bet" amongst these, which will make for a pleasant start to the cruise? On our last cruise (Oceania), there was only the buffet and it was absolutely packed and not at all a relaxing start. TIA John
  16. We were on the Volendam November 11 nine day cruise. The ships staff was really excellent, always polite and helpful. Food quality was great. I thought they had the best steak at dinner and salmon at the Lido and dining room as well(better than any other ship we have been on). The condition of the ship was well maintained. This was our second time on the Volendam and thought it was a job well done.Of course you can see the way things have been cut back, but more important is to focus on the positive and good time we had.
  17. I haven’t been on either ship. Which would you suggest for round trip Vancouver? We will be booking inside or obstructed view cabin. Thanks for any input. Laurie
  18. I tried to do a search for this with no luck. Are the walls on the Volendam magnetic? Thanks for the help.
  19. Hi, we're sailing on the Volendam on 3rd June 2020, does anybody know how long before departure the spa and massage bookings will open up online please? Thanks.
  20. Volendam will be at pier 19 (starboard to) from 0430-1600. She is leaving on a 16-day Caribbean Holiday cruise. 21. Getting close to the Grand S. America and would like to know if the Volendam still has her real library with books beyond the coffee table variety like the HAL ships that have been "upgraded" to no library at all (IMHO). The answer will be appreciated as it will help me know if I need to have a Kindle with me or not needed. David
  22. We set sail for our holiday cruise next week on the Volendam..And while i have searched and searched I cannot find a definitive answer to a couple of question, so I am turning to the HAL cruisperts to answer if they can my questions. We have not sailed with Holland since the implementation of Club Orange so we are a bit skeptical as to which takes priority. We are sailing in a Neptune Suite, and normally we have breakfast in the Pinnacle, does that change now that Club Orange exists? Are people who buy club orange also having breakfast in Pinnacle? I think I understood that on the smaller ships there is no dedicated space for dinning. How will dinner work in the MDR, in the past (Pre CO)our PCC had always arranged a table for two at the rail, will this change now that there is CO.? Any insight is appreciated. Joseph
  23. Passengers on the Volendam are reporting that it ran aground at 4am this morning on the Amazon about 30 miles from Santorem. Supposedly no damage to the hull and they’re trying to work themselves out. Hoping all goes well for them.
  24. I am considering a cruise next year on the Volendam. I have never been on the Volendam, but know it is an older ship. Does anyone know when it has been or will be in dry dock for updating and repairs? Thanks in advance for any information.
  25. Hi There, We are newbies planing on our first Alaska cruise with HAL, We used to cruise with Princess. we are set on a 7 day round trip going the inside passage route with Glacier Bay and are having a hard time making some choices. 1. We plan to go in early - mid May, will it be too early for a "good" Alaska experience (i.e. is the weather too cold/rainy/windy to enjoy the scenery on the balcony/open decks) 2. We have 2 choices of ships: Koningsdam vs Volendam. The price is actually slightly cheaper for a vista suite on Volendam compared to a standard verandah room. Should we go for a bigger vista suite on the older Volendam or enjoy the new Koningsdam but stay in the smaller balcony room? Our main concern would be any dining experience differences as our on-ship activity may be very limited due to my next point. 3. We are debating of whether to take our 1 yr old with us on the cruise since they have a kid sail for free offer, does anyone have any positive/negative experience with infants this young on a cruise like this? looking forward to any thoughts and recommendations. Thanks, CruisingRagdoll
