  1. We'll be on the Zuiderdam in December in a NS, and hoping for breakfast in PG. Hope the reports are correct.
  2. We have an inside cabin on deck 7 aft booked for an upcoming Zuiderdam cruise. Due to price changes, it may be possible to "upgrade" to an obstructed OV on deck 4 at no additional fare. Outside of the obvious lifeboat view and some daylight, are there any advantages or disadvantages to the OV? Some questions that I am pondering. 1. Obstructed OVs are mid ship. Inside is toward the aft. We don't usually feel movement in aft cabins, but we do avoid forward cabins for movement and noise. 2. Cabin layout. It looks like the cabins are the same square footage, but the layouts may be different. The IS looks like a more "square" layout while the OV has the longer hallway entry. We have never sailed with the "square" layout. Opinions on the layout difference are much appreciated. 3. The OV is above a public deck. Has anyone had noise issues? Thanks

  4. Volendam is scheduled for October 18 to 31st Zuiderdam is scheduled for December 1st to 9th.
  5. Currently on the Zuiderdam and have the regular cloth bags.
  6. Thanks guys, we booked the Zuiderdam, now let's get this party started!
  7. B deck, is a good choice, we were on a night Caribbean cruise last year, & we return to Oceana next week in Malta, on B deck. Regards, Grumpycruiser Sailed on Oceana, Britannia, Arcadia, HAL, Statendam, Zuiderdam, Rotterdam, plus worked on board old Statendam.
  8. We never drew our conclusions on this review because we were planning a B2B on the Zuiderdam . We went to the Baltic and Iceland and Norway in a NS and we were much happier . As for Pinnacle Class ships we don't care for them . We prefer the Princess Royal Class or the Celebrity Solstice Class if we want a busy ship . We cruise HAL for a smaller , quieter and mature experience . This cruise on the New Statendam was like a Spring Break in the Caribbean with a bunch of old goats acting like they were still spring chickens . Never again .

  10. It's wonderful for the canal. We had the huge deck 5 corner on Zuiderdam for the canal. This time, I'll be on a deck 6 corner.
  11. We were on the Noordam for an Alaska cruise last month. We had a corner aft suite and we loved it. There was lots or room in the suite and the balcony was huge. Costly, but worth it for us. We have a sig suite on Zuiderdam in the spring for a Panama Canal trip.
  12. We had a Signature Suite on Zuiderdam and loved it. A real treat (for us it was a surprise upgrade as we boarded)!
  13. Thanks to a long time discussion of tonic for G&T on the Azamara board, my DH has gotten a taste for Fever Tree tonic. He can live with Schweppes. Anybody know if either of those are available on Zuiderdam? if not, we will make an effort to buy some before embarkation. We have the SBP if that matters. TIA, Nancy
  14. GRAB IT WHILE YOU CAN!!!!!!!!!!! The corner afts are fantastic. BIg balcony, and the weather is still mild enough to get good use of it. You didn't say what cabin grade you had before, but the corner aft is a Neptune Suite, so you get access to the Neptune Lounge for snacks (but no free wine or booze). You get priority embarkation and tendering if any of your ports are tender ports. And free laundry, too. If the weather is rough, yes you'll get more motion, but only if it's really bad. I've been aft on Zuiderdam and two of the other Vista ships, on various decks, and never had vibration (K'dam yes, but not Zuiderdam) Never had soot or fume issues. The stacks are designed to vent upward. I'm sensitive to smells, too--my father used to say that I can smell a cigarette 100 yards away. And I have never had a fume smell issue anywhere on the ship. On the tenders, yes. Tenders can smell of diesel fuel. But never on the ship.
  15. The sheet we got Tuesday on Zuiderdam has these descriptions: Social: "Access the most popular social websites and applications." Daily download limit is about 200Mb. Surf: "Surf your sites including email, news, sports and more. " Daily download limit is 300Mb. Premium: "Supports audio/video calling and streaming". Daily download limit is 500Mb, probably not enough to stream one hour of HD video. Good luck!
  16. We had one of those suites with the "balcony for 50." It was our 10th anniversary cruise. It was also our first inside passage Alaskan cruise. We were in a deck 5 aft wrap Neptune Suite on Zuiderdam. Completely covered which was nice for Alaska especially. The suite was a bit smaller but still a nice size. Only issue was it was far from the Neptune Lounge. Otherwise perfect.
  17. Hello KAZU; First of all "THANK YOU" for your speedy reply. The ship is the Zuiderdam and the ship leaves out of Quebec City this coming Monday the 16th. It stops thru out eastern Canada and then onto Boston and the last stop is New York City. We have a cabin mid ship starboard side and was offered an "Upgrade" but Iam quite "hesitant" staying in a cabin that is "literally" on the back of the ship. What about the "SmokeStack Fumes"???? Common sense tells me that it could be a "Potential Issue" and Iam very sensitive to those nasty fumes. We like to sit out on the "Balcony" as thats part of the enjoyment of cruising.
  18. I don't know what the Solarium pools are on Celebrity, so I don't know what you're looking for. Zuiderdam has two pools. The aft pool is not covered and I don't remember if it has a hot tub. The midship pool has a glass roof that can open in nice weather. There is a hot tub, maybe two there. Zuiderdam also has a wonderful hydropool in the spa, but that isn't free.
  19. Last sailed Zuiderdam 2010. Doing 10 day next month. What are those really good tips from those that know her inside and out. Last time we had 3 lovely ladies at the table that knew the MDR staff very well. Every night the chef sent us something special, and most prepared table side. How about the after dinner scene, we like craps in the casino, or lively bar scenes. And is there anything similar to the Solarium pools on Celebrity?
  20. We are booking the Zuiderdam 10-Day Panama Canal Sunfarer in a SS Signature Suite for October. Usually Celebrity cruisers but this cruise worked for us. Most of the other lines offer free gratuities, free drinks, internet etc, but we're only getting $150PP SBC as we don't need air. What suite goodies does HAL give?
  21. I haven't sailed Celebrity yet (booked for March 2021!), but I'd vote for HAL. Only 1 on NCL (14 nights eastbound TA). Didn't think NCL was any more upscale than Carnival but I don't sail in the upper-tier cabins/suites. HAL's Caribbean sailings are not as "old" as some of their others. I sailed both Zuiderdam and Koningsdam for 11 nights each and loved them both. Those who haven't tried HAL need to do so and see whether that "stuffy old octogenarians" rep is real. There aren't a lot of millennials on HAL, but not everyone is >80! And even if they are, they seem to have enough fun (and love their Happy Hours!). They have some very good entertainment. I loved their Lincoln Center Stage and BB King's Blues Club (not really blues, more R&B) as well as their main theater shows on Koningsdam.
  22. the Zuiderdam, post drydock, has USB port on by the headboard (inside cabin)....
  23. We've sailed on Carnival, RCL, HAL and Celebrity and I'd rank them (for party-atmosphere), high to low, as follows: Carnival RCL Celebrity HAL Carnival and RCL are big on pool games (think belly-flop contest, hairy chest contest, etc) and lots of drinking/partying. While on Celebrity, there was more upscale party groups (the Martini Bar was always hopping) and the pool game we actually enjoyed watching was the crew vs. guest volleyball game. HAL is the more sedate yet I wouldn't characterize it as many people do - for 'old' people. We did a pub crawl with the beverage manager on Zuiderdam that was great fun...imagine a group of 50 playing flip-cup on the pool deck! There were 'kids' in their 20's teaching us how to play, and it was a blast.
