  1. Hello! Assuming one is even available, would we want a cabana on our cruise? I suppose I'm thinking it won't be warm enough to be outside for extended periods. Are there any tips on which one to pick, or cabana choice in general? Thanks.
  2. Does anyone have recent Zuiderdam Daily Activity Papers they could share? If not, do you know which shows/live entertainment they currently have in the main theater each night? THANK YOU!
  3. Myself and two friends (we are all 60ish) had a fantail cabin on deck 6. The weather was wonderful the whole time, and only a couple days of a wee heavy seas. We had a wonderful trip! The food, the staff, the stateroom, were all great. We were really impressed by the crew, almost every single one greeted you with a pleasant smile, anywhere you ran into them on the ship. There were a couple times we observed waiters in the dining room trying to satisfy the demands of some rude and ungrateful guests, and they never missed a beat, just kept being gracious and doing their level best to accommodate. Our only complaint was in our stateroom. Three ladies. So two had the twin beds, and I took the couch bed. The first night we came back from supper, and our beds were made down, complete with chocolates and some cute towel art...and my couch bed mattress felt like a bock of concrete. The next morning I was pretty stiff and sore, so I took a look under the sheet...and it was obvious that mattress had long outlived it's life. So I asked our room stewards if they had a replacement mattress, or perhaps a memory foam. The next night, there's my bed, all made down for me. It feels softer...but weird. So off with the sheet, only to discover they'd put three random sized pieces of thin foamie on top of the mattress. And they looked like the type of foamie you'd throw down on the floor of the tent while camping...in fact they looked like they HAD been on the bottom of a tent. Not wanting to cause a fuss or make my friends feel guilty, I kept quiet about it. It certainly wasn't the end of the world, and not worth souring our long awaited vacation. My point being - we paid a dear price for that cruise, and something as simple as that crappy lumpy mattress is so UN-classy. I expected more from Holland America. At least the foamies eliminated the concrete floor sensation, and I slept well enough. They sent me a questionaire when I got home, and I had glowing reviews for everything except that darn mattress! Of interest - a great percentage of the passengers were people our age, many older. Lots of walkers and wheelchairs and scooters. It wasn't a party boat, which was exactly what we were looking for. Highly recommend. :)
  4. What are the ballroom dancing opportunities on ms Zuiderdam today? Many thanks for your responses. Reg
  5. I am cruising on Holland America Zuiderdam on Sunday March 11th to the Panama Canal and I just heard they have a Happy Hour. Does anyone have any information as to when and where?

  7. Zuiderdam's homeport will be Copenhagen for the 2019 season. Itineraries vary from 10 days to 25 days. This just leaves Koningsdam, which will be released when the decision is made regarding Venice.
  8. For those of you who have recently done this cruise, one quick question. For the late night in Curaçao, does HAL still do fireworks. Been awhile since I have cruised there but it is still a special memory of that port. Also, any other special highlights?
  9. Just off the Z and what a beautiful job on the dry dock. New carpets, chairs, bathrooms, etc. We were in an SS cabin and really like the new look and the huge TV except for it being over the sofa, no comfortable place to watch TV except in bed. We did not eat in the Main Dinning Room for dinner, ate in the Lido Marketplace for lunch an dinner. Mariners lunch was OK, not a fan of spicy food. We did get our Bronze Medallion and met the Captain, very nice person. We did not go to any of the entertainment shows. This was a very needed cruise to relax and chill out. We never got off the ship. Casino was great, hit a large jackpot on the slots and never hit anything else. Blackjack is my game and I did very well. Casino staff were great, fun and friendly. On board shopping has changed, prices are higher and selection is less. Only got a couple of tees for the grand kids and some cologne for myself. Lobster was not served in the Lido on the last Gala night as it had been on past cruises, big disappointment for us. We are not into dressing up for dinner but if you want lobster you will have to go to Main Dinning room or order from them for in cabin delivery. Went to Pinnacle Grill one night, king crab legs were excellent and a huge serving, steaks were over cooked and tough. Service was good, don't think we will go back again as this was the second time on a different ship we had poor quality steaks. Had room service breakfast every morning except one that we ate in the Lido, very crowded and hard to find a table. Weather was great only one night we felt any motion at all. Cloudy when we went through the canal but temperature was pleasant. I have the When and Where and will answer any question I can but remember we were on the ship for the entire 10 days. Overall a very relaxing, quiet cruise and it was just what we wanted.
