  1. Anyone sailing on the Nieuw Statendam November 17, 2019. My wife and I will be sailing with my Daughter and Son in Law. Would like to connect with any others folks that will be traveling on the Nieuw Statendam
  2. I just boarded the Nieuw Statendam today. Observations are based on cabin 1012, a single oceanview cabin. I will start by answering some common questions about the "in cabin" experience. The TV is large, wall mounted at the foot of the bed. It is mounted such that any access to any ports is difficult. It has been suggested that cabin stewards may be able to help you if you want/need to access these ports. I have attached an image showing the 9 "live" tv channels available. There are approximately 144 movies available for viewing. You may select them by seeing categories, or one listing of all movies. The navigation around the TV menu is different than Koningsdam as of last November. Other observations. I have been on Koningsdam twice, leaving last on November 11th last year. So far the Nieuw Statendam seems very familiar. It helps that I have the same cabin I have had on Koningsdam. Muster drill will be happening shortly, and then we will see how similar they are.
  3. Where is the sauna located? Is there a fee? Are there separate saunas for men and women?
  4. Can anyone tell me if the Nieuw Statendam casino has a Let It Ride Poker gaming table?
  5. The two newest ships for Holland America are traveling together from St. Thomas to Half Moon Cay. This is Koningsdam as seen off the port side of Nieuw Statendam
  6. As many of you know I recently completed a one week voyage on the NIEUW STATENDAM and I thought you would want a few observations.. I will be brief. I hate to say it but this is the new mid size. That was made clear to me when we were in Cozumel and docked next to The Harmony of the Seas. The Nieuw Statendam looked like a tug boat next to this monster ship. That being said, I still prefer the Signature Class Ships. My friar is they will get bigger and bigger.in the future. One thing I do not like is the promenade walk around deck. It is too narrow . It was good that they moved the Lincoln Center performers to the Queens lounge. However since they now share the space with the BB Kings Blues Venue, the classical music does not go that late. &:30 they are furnished. This ship and the Koningsdam cannot go through the New Locks in the Panama Canal. It has to do with the fact that lifeboats are out way to far. I understand that the next ship they will be relocated closer to the ship and hopefully more like they are on the other classes of ships. Maybe we will even get a decent size Promenade Deck in the next one. I had a nice room on the Navigation Deck (8059) midway between the Forward and Mid ship elevators. The problem was it was right below the Lido pull area and I could heart them dragging tables and chars late at night as I was trying to go to sleep. I liked this ship better that the Koningsdam but I still favor the Vista and Signature Class ships. I miss those Sea View Elevators at the mid ship. I also notice that there are not as many offerings at Dinner as HAL used to offer. For instance, we used to get three soups offered each evening: A broth soup, a cream soup and a cold soup. Not there is one but I think you can still get French Onion. It also seemed that there are fewer options on the minu but you can purchase a President Cut Steak for another &%.00. Baked Alaska is gone from the minuet on the last night of the cruise. The have a Chocolate offering on the last Gala night but with Diabetes, I took a rain check. These are my observations. I will be Chaplain on b2b Cruises on the Nieuw Amsterdam in June. It will be nice to get back on a Signature Ship. If you to the time to read these thoughts and observations, thanks for reading them . They are subjective. They were written in that spirit.
  7. Good morning friends. I arrived in Ft. Lauderdale yesterday around 3:30 PM after a nice flight on United. I have a room on the starboard side mid ship on the Navigation deck. The upgrade ferry tried to get ahold of me but I didn't go on line until late last evening. Oh well, better luck next time. IIt was supposed to rain this morning but so far, so sunny. I can see Port Everglades from my hotel room anr the Oosterdam is visable as is the Caribbean Princess. More later.
  8. We have a spring break cruise in 2020 book for the Nieuw Statendam booked, and as excited as I am, curious to hear about how many kids and any reports from Club HAL - so far, not a lot of family reviews. We originally had a Disney 4 day booked, but at almost 2k less and 3 more days, this was a easy choice, buuut, I'd feel better knowing that our 8 and 13 year old are going to have fun too:)
  9. Does anyone know if the balconies between staterooms can be opened on the Nieuw Statendam? Thank you.
  10. We will be traveling on the NS in April. Our itinerary states disembarkation starts at 7am on a Sunday at Port Everglades. How long does the process take? Booking return airfare and wondering what would be the earliest time of day for a return flight home. I know there can be problems which may arise, which would inevitably mean a flight change, but what is the norm for getting off this ship? Not interested in staying overnight as we all need to return to work and school on Monday barring any catastrophes. Thanks!
  11. Hello! I have called ship services and they weren't able to answer my question. For those of you who have sailed on the Nieuw Statendam or Koningsdam, are they able to accommodate 11 people in the main dining room or in a specialty dining restaurant? Ship services said no to the main dining room, but they were unsure of any specialty restaurants. We are looking to keep our group together for the first night and the remainder of the cruise, everyone will pretty much do their own thing. Thanks!
  12. I am considering a solo cruise on Nieuw Statendam. It will have to be an inside cabin due to budget constraints. Any suggestions as to more spacious inside cabins or cabins to avoid?
  13. Thinking of trying an inside cabin for a 1 week cruise. I keep reading mixed information regarding a love seat in these cabins. Does anyone know for sure if any of the inside cabins have a love seat? Thanks so much. Helen
  14. Does anyone know where I can find the layout for the dining room of NS? If not, do you know if it is the same (with same table numbers) as the Koningsdam? Thank you.
  15. We're booked on NS next month. Could anyone provide me with a copy ot the (bottle ) wines offered in the MDR and prices (which I guess is part of the. Menu, or. Wine List)? Dont need info for specialty dining...wont be going. Also, what is their corkage fee? Trying to see if its worth it to bring on a couple of extra bottles of el cheapo wine & pay the corkage vs buying off the menu? Help? thanks. hic!
  16. What is the process for the NS muster drill? We will on in November. Thanks
  17. Does the Nieuw Statendam have any night lighting in the bathroom? thanks
  18. For those of you recently on the Nieuw Statendam do you know which days they offered High Tea service? Do they still offer a daily tea as well? That is one of my favorite parts of cruising so I want to plan my itinerary around it! Thanks in advance!
  19. Doing an inside cabin for the first time on the Nieuw Statendam (cabin I-6112). Does anyone know if they have a fridge in these cabins? Thanks! Helen
  20. so....we just booked NS for a 7-day Caribbean run in April. Anyone been on 'er? Please tell me all about her? Thanks!
  21. Hi everyone, I apologise as this has doubtless been answered before - however I’ve trawled the various beverage threads to no avail! Sailing onboard Nieuw Statendam next month - I’m looking into purchasing the $25 for $50 soda card. I’m just a little unsure as to exactly which beverages are available via this - is it literally only fizzy soft drinks such as coke or sprite which would be included with this, or are there other soft drinks such as juices or ice tea? Thank you for your help!
  22. I have heard that there are USB ports by the beds but I was wondering if there were electrical outlets by the beds (so I wouldn't need an extension cord for my CPAP). I am in a bacony cabin.
  23. review on state room V5053 (1 star) Would appreciate additional information booked it for 20 days - should we relocate ?
  24. Hi Everyone, This will be my first cruise with HAL in June on NS. I know that on embarkation that the MDR and Lido are open for lunch. I am wondering what will be my lunch options for the other days on the cruise. Will the MDR be open for lunch every day or just on sea days? Are there any speciality restaurants that will be open for lunch and if so, do you know how much they will cost? Thank you.
  25. hi we are booking the nieuw statendam june 30th cruise to the fjords, and we are looking at cabin 6121, which is directly across from the elevators - i was wondering if there was a wall between the elevator banks and the rooms, i am somewhat concerned about the noise, we are trying to locate near my sister also travelling on the ship = but further down the hall from teh elevator banks. has anyone had experience with rooms this close to the elevators? thanks for the help
