Hi everyone. We are loyal Princess cruisers (6 cruises) but are going to give carnival a try in August of 2020 for a 8 day cruise since Princess is not doing caribbean cruises in august that year. We have narrowed it down to either the Magic or Horizon. We are upper 40's and our kids will be 17 and 13 at the time of the cruise. The Magic stops at bonaire, aruba, turks and caicos and half moon cay. Horizon stops at bonaire, aruba, and curacau. We have been to aruba, bonaire, and curacau before and it was our favorite cruise with princess. Any help deciding would be appreciated. I will have many more questions over the coming months since we dont know alot about how carnival does things compared to princess. Thanks for your help.

    Magic or Horizon

Both have Southern Caribbean itinerary. The Magic sails from FLL, the Horizon from Miami. Magic ports are HMC, Grand Turk, Curaco, and Aruba. The Horizon sails to Grand Turk, La Romania, Curaco. and Aruba. Looking at Dec. 2019. Please help me decide! The prices are similar.

    Carnival Horizon

Has anyone stayed in a Spa Suite on the Horizon on the 12th floor - specifically 12209? I want to know if the balcony is covered. Also, is it relaxing or noisy? TYIA

    Carnival Horizon

I have a few questions. Thanks in advance. 1. Which restaurants are open for lunch on the day we get on the ship? 2. Someone stated that the live shows were cancelled due to an accident. Are they performing again?
  5. I saw someone had posted on FB there were not any shows on the Horizon? Because a cast member passed away at the end of December? Has anyone else heard about this? If they are not doing shows in the evening, what entertainment has been offered? Will there be shows for our sailing this Saturday? That all being said, I'm not worried about the shows - I'm sure we will keep ourselves entertained! Just curious (and I'm sure my husband would say nosy! ) If this is accurate, I hope the friends and family of the crew member are doing okay.

    Horizon Boarding Time

I checked in this morning (along with lots of people on our roll call group) and the earliest was 12:30. Why so much later than other cruises? Does it just take longer to get all the passengers disembarked?! I do have Faster To The Fun so plan to arrive between 10:30-11:00 like usual and hope to board sooner. I may end up waiting to check in but that's ok. (We're usually onboard before noon so not even checking in until later is new to us!)

    Formal Night On The Horizon?

Is there a specific formal night on the Horizon? We are booked on the March 9th sailing and were trying to decide when to go to the steakhouse. Thanks.
  8. I am really toying with booking a Havana cabin on the Horizon for the April 26, 2020 sailing to the Western Caribbean. Question is .... are they worth the additional money? It will only be my husband and I traveling (52 and 57. I know that during the day it is adults only, but do they offer enough loungers to accommodate everyone? Any insight is appreciated! Kim
  9. Horizon 1/26 to 2/1 8 day cruise. I don’t normally do reviews, but I felt I had a lot of information this time that may be helpful to other people. Being an engineer, this review my end up being a little less about my opinions and more about the design issues. This cruise was with my DW and mother in-law. We had booked a balcony cabin on deck 6. Less than 2 days before the cruise the up-sell fairy called and offered us an upgrade to a family harbor suite for $600, which we accepted. My wife and I are both platinum and close to diamond so this is not our first Carnival cruise. It is our first Vista class ship. First off, the good news: The service, food and entertainment were excellent. Some of the best we have had. Having the family harbor suite was nice. The extra ½ bath came in handy and the lounge is very nice to have. I do wish they had food earlier and later than they offer it. JiJi – excellent food, well worth the extra change Cucina de Capitano – food was good, but we were disappointed that hey did not sing as they normally do. This is always one of our favorite restaurants on the ship. Bonsai Teppanyaki – very good, way too much food. Make sure you are hungry. The up charge may seem high but includes any entry including filet and lobster tail. Guys pig & anchor BBQ – One night we did not like what was on the dinner menu so we did this on a whim. I am glad we did. The food is very good, live entertainment, craft beer. A nice alternative if you find yourself in a similar situation. Their sampler platter “the whole smoker” says it feeds 2 but it will easily feed 3 or 4 people. Now the not so good news: This may be our only trip on a Vista class ship. Some how the Carnival ship designers decided that when you add more cabins and a lot more people, you should then make all the public spaces smaller. Yes, I said smaller. The Alchemy bar, piano bar, show lounge, spa, lobby. You name it, it is smaller. Why? We have been on fantasy class ships, we have been on the Sunshine, we have been on just about every other class of ship Carnival has and this is the first time I really felt crowded. It seems like everywhere we went there were crowds. The only thing not crowded was the high end shops they added. Now before you go off thinking I am a hater, the truth is I am more of a Carnival cheerleader. But this ship design makes no sense to me. I truly think this class of ship was designed by accountants to maximize the front end take (shop leases, cabins). They probably assume that if a person wants a drink a the Alchemy bar they will still buy one even if they are waiting 3 people deep most of the night. Ok, off my soapbox. The one other thing I will mention is the noise from the galley above our deck 2 family suite was noticeable. It was enough to wake you up, but was not constant. It is something to consider if that kind of stuff bothers you.
  10. Have a question for those who have cruised Horizon and possibly Vista....Two yrs ago our family/friend group went on our first cruise on the Vista. Our husbands loved it and agreed to another one....along comes the horizon which looks just like the vista so we booked it. The one difference for us is that the pig and anchor is where the red frog used to be. From the pictures the space seems very similar however I understand it is now a "pay" restaurant. Is that just in the evening? On the Vista this is where our men hung out on the boat. There were always groups of people planning board games, there was a foosball table, corn hole, live music in the evening...etc. Can you still hang out here or is it strictly a pay restaurant? Obviously they can find another place on the ship but they tend to be creatures of habit. None of them do any research and I would guess that the first place they go on embarkation day is to where they are expecting the red frog and "rum jumpers", ....I don't have the heart to tell them that their beloved corn hole boards are now on the sports square with no bar in sight.

    Horizon and movies

So there's the free Dive in series, right? What's the deal with the Imax and isn't there one other type of movie on board? What's the cost?
  12. I've never sailed the newer Vista-class ships, but I've noticed on other CCL ships the hot tubs are just luke-warm. I'm wondering if perhaps the Havana area hot tubs are actually hot? Has anyone noticed this? Thanks.
  13. What type of foods do they have on the buffet in the lounge? How many cabins can use this area? Anyone that has stayed in this location would you recommend it? Looking at a deluxe oceanview.
  14. Hi Does anyone know who the current Horel Director and Captain is on the Horizon??

    Horizon trip review

First and foremost, I posted a few weeks ago if I should pay $800 to upgrade to the Havana area. I think most people thought I was nuts, but wow. The Havana area was our entire vacation. Best $800 I've ever spent! I truly don't know if we'll be able to cruise in the future on a ship that doesn't have this area. It was that good. I attached a picture I took of the sunset from the Havana area. The good: Havana! The bartenders and bar staff made the cruise. Best bar staff I've ever encountered. They were amazing and just made our vacation so much better. The Havana pool is a bit small, but was never full. The hot tubs were huge! Almost as big as the pool! They could have been hotter, but the staff did increase the temperature every time it was asked. Everyone in this area was just SO NICE! Best passengers we've ever cruised with. Pig and Anchor was great. It was the best pay restaurant IMO. And half the price of the Steakhouse or Teppanyaki. We ended up eating at Pig and Anchor for 3 out of the 6 nights. I really liked the decor and didn't miss the glass elevators at all. I'm a little bit confused now by everyone saying how much they didn't care for it. Carnival has finally entered the modern times and doesn't look like a floating Atlantic City casino. The elevators also were great. They were a bit slow at times, but so much more efficient. I'd love it if every hotel or big venue goes to this type of elevator. We didn't spend too much time up there, but we liked the Dr. Seuss splash pad and water slides. The water was warm and they were fun. Also embarkation! We just walked right on. We didn't have anything special and I would have been pissed if I paid for FTTF. I didn't hear one person who said they waited in line to board at all. Still happily shocked at how quickly the process went. Debarkation also was easy peasy. The average: The food. We only went to the dining room the first night. It just wasn't that good. Carnival's schtick of making you pay for better food definitely worked on us. The breakfast was the best breakfast at sea I've ever had. Lunch was pretty good too. I"m not a buffet person, and typically dislike all cruise food. However, between the Great Wok, Pig and Anchor, and Cucina for lunch, we did well. The sea day brunch is also still amazing. We did the Sky Ride. It was fun, but not worth waiting in a long line for. We went in port and didn't wait. I would have been disappointed if we waited more than 10 min for it. I did enjoy Guys and was surprised I did, I was not expecting to like it. Blue Iguana was fine too. The bad: The Steakhouse. I am honestly really disappointed. Before this cruise, I was team 'the steakhouse is the best meal ever and well worth the money!". Now I'm like 'ehhhh.....' Every course we had from appetizer to dessert was just...fine? Nowhere near worth the money we spent on it. My free filet at the sea day brunch well surpassed my filet mignon from the steakhouse. We also didn't love Teppanyaki. It was also just okay. Not worth the money at all. Pig and Anchor is literally half the price on average of these other two restaurants and so much better. Our Havana interior room was also just too small. There wasn't the standard interior couch or dresser. We had to basically live out of our suitcases under the bed for the week. Please note that although I greatly disliked this, my husband thinks I'm overreacting and he had no issue with it at all 🙂 Last note that has left such a sour taste in my mouth is how many people we saw removing tips. I knew from here that it was thing, but not to the extent it was. The moved the line to the Havana bar because the grand atrium couldn't handle all of the people. People were waiting 2 hours in line to remove them. It was insane and ridiculous to me. I thought it was like 20 people per cruise, not 1/4 of the ship! I wish Carnival would just remove them all together and just increase the cruise fare the $150 it cost. Any questions? Just ask!

    Horizon Havana Cabana

Well we did it...we booked a Havana Cabana and now my husband wants every cruise to be in a Havana room. It is AMAZING! Just off the 6 day cruise out of Miami yesterday. We were on a ship with 4,000+ and felt like we were on a ship of 100. Obviously we will not be cruising in Havana every time since currently only Vista and Horizon have that option but what an amazing experience. From the room, to the walkout balcony to the hot tubs/pool to the Havana bar it was awesome!
  17. We have a 12:50 pm flight out of Fort Lauderdale the morning we get off the Horizon in Miami. I have a shuttle arranged from SAS Transportation to get us to the airport. We prefer to do self-assist off the ship. We have FTTF, staying in a cove balcony. I’d like to get breakfast before we leave the ship. My husband has a tendency to get us off the ship the second we’re all clear. Off the Sunshine at Port Canaveral one year, he had us sitting in an Orlando restaurant for breakfast by 8am! I don’t want to rush, I know we don’t really need to. Never done this particular arrangement before, can some one give me a suggested timeline? I’d like to head to the main dining room for breakfast when they open at 6:30 am that morning. What time do they begin calling self assist? I agree with Hubby that first off is ideal, I do prefer the lower crowds. I just would like a decent breakfast before we run! He usually grabs us random items off the Lido and this one time I’d like to have a peaceful morning! The one and only time I enjoyed a last breakfast was on a Disney cruise where you’re assigned to a main dining room for breakfast. 😁
  18. We will be staying on deck 5 Havana room. My question is does the back sliding door lock from the outside so if you walk away to the pool area can you come back in from your outside cabana door with your key?

    Horizon questions

Hello~ We will be on the 8 day Horizon out of Miami. Is Quest going to be on our sailing? Does anyone happen to have the Funtimes? We were unable to get Havana cabins. Will we still be able to have a good time, suffering on the Serenity deck?! 😉 (Kidding, well kind of! ) Also, if one of the people in our cabins has Platinum, do we still need to have FTTF for the person that is not Platinum? Would the person that is not Platinum still be able to board and debark early? Thanks!
  21. If you were only going to dine in one of the Horizon’s extra charge specialty restaurants, which one would you choose? We will be on the ship next week with our family, which includes grandchildren aged 5, 7, and 9.
  22. I am going on the Carnival Horizon in Sept. I have a Havana Cabana room. I was wondering if either inside the Havana Bar or outside in the pool area, do they have any food or snacks? Last year I was on the Sunshine and the Havana Bar had some sandwiches and things. Thanks in advance. CC
  23. Last week we received a notification in our cabin that a TV update would be done in the next couple of days. Good news? Not necessarily. It looks like HGTV, Nickelodeon, Food Network and a couple of other minor channels were added along with CBS News channel but all 3 CNN channles were taken off.
  24. We just booked a spa balcony cabin on the Horizon. I have never stayed at a spa cabin before, can someone tell me what extras we get for booking this cabin? I don't want to miss anything. Thank you
  25. We are sailing on the Horizon next month and we love going to the movies. Does the IMAX theater show new releases? What about movies released that week? There are a few movies coming out in the next month that we want to see but think it would be cool if it was onboard. Is there a way to find out the movies that will be in IMAX?
