  1. As we continue to navigate through this very fluid time together, it’s important that we connect on the latest news and updates. That’s why you’re among the first to learn that, sadly, Empress of the Seas® and Majesty of the Seas® will soon be leaving the Royal Caribbean fleet. Fan favorites for 30 years, Empress and Majesty of the Seas certainly made their mark on the cruise industry. Empress, launched in 1990, was the first ship specifically designed for short 3- and 4-night itineraries, with her first cruises visiting The Bahamas from Miami. And years later, she wasn’t finished making histo
  2. There are reports that Empress of the Seas has left UK en route to Malta where she will de store then head to Aliaga to be broken.
  3. It is over 30 days since RCL announced the sale of the ships and I haven't gotten any money back (eg, cruise planner) or FCCs for the canceled cruises. Wondering if anybody else has.
  4. I have not yet received notice that my June cruise on Empress has been cancelled. Anyone else? Is this unusual?
  5. What happened to the Empress of the Seas topic that has been on the boards for several months? It just seems to have disappeared. Have a cruised planned in May on this ship and I'm concerned that it to may disappear. I think the last post was October14
  6. After reading some reviews, I am worried if my room will be one of the unlucky cabins to not have proper air conditioning. I will be cruising in a little less than a month and booked in an interior room on deck (3119) starboard and the other party is booked in an ocean view on deck 4 (4630) port side. For those who have cruised on the Empress recently, how bad are the air condition problems on this ship? Thanks for your info!
  7. (5 p.m. EDT) – Empress of the Seas and Majesty of Seas -- two of Royal Caribbean's oldest vessels – are still being tracked by Cruise Critic members who are concerned that the line plans to sell them. Royal Caribbean has strongly denied it has any plans to sell the 1990-built Empress of the Seas, and hasn't yet commented on the future of ... View the full article
  8. I’d love to do a New England sailing next year to replace the one we should be embarking on today (😭😭), but with our kids and schedules, it looks like my only option is Empress sailing out of New Jersey next summer. Has anyone stayed four in an OV cabin on Empress? How was it?
  9. This would be for the beginning of January for the Western Caribbean (and like everything now, assuming it actually sails). I know Dec/Jan to expect a lot of families, babies, and young kids. That said, which do you think (yes I know you cannot predict this, but I'll still like to hear if anyone has experience with this) would have less of them overall on the ship especially around the pool area? Empress has no solarium or adult area (but few amenities for kids), Brilliance does have solarium and amenities for kids. I'm just trying to figure out which one is better for me (never been on RC). E
  10. Afternoon all I found a delightful itinerary on Empress, but worry about the small OV cabins (we're accustomed to at least a balcony- but we are priced out of the suites on this sailing) w/ those pesky upper pullman boxes. We prefer small ships, so we aren't worried about the ship size... but want to hear from the Empress regulars! Any highlights or lowlights we should know about the ship? Thanks a bunch!
  11. We are booked for April 17 2021 on the Empress. It is still showing on our Cruise Planner; however, our Roll Call is now gone from CruiseCritic and when I search for our April 17 cruise on Royal's website, it is not there either. Are we about to receive an email from Royal saying this cruise is cancelled?
  12. Hi everyone, I booked this cruise for December today. I know it does not have a Diamond Lounge, but what about a Suite lounge? I looked at the layout and didn't see one. Just wondering. Thanks, Mary&Jim
  13. Are there any large OV cabins on the Empress of the Seas? The RCCL website provides very limited information about cabin size variations for OV cabins, but looking at deck plans it seems to me there may be some "hidden gems". Seeking insight from those who've cruised in an OV on the Empress. Thanks!
  14. In the words as sung by Britney Spears... 🎵 Oops, I Did it Again 🎵 For those who are wondering what is he talking about? (or thinking I've enjoyed one too many happy hour drinks) I just finished 14 nights on this little beauty last week. You can read about that B2B experience here: https://boards.cruisecritic.com/topic/2681739-empress-b2b-14-nights-on-the-biggest-little-ship/ Those cruises were great but they were Western Caribbean and this 8 night cruise is Eastern Caribbean including a stop at Tortola in the British Virgin Islands. Royal hasn't visite
  15. If you have been lucky enough to stay in this cabin, please tell me about it! after many tries, i finally found it available for my January 2021 sailing!
  16. Just dabbling into a Western Caribbean 6 night cruise out of Miami in Dec or Jan. I just wanted to double check something (assuming this cruise will be up and running). There is no adults' only pool right? I know this is a family time of year (but it's the time I will have off...inflexible work schedule).
  17. We are planning a December cruise, family of 4 with college age son and daughter. I have found two cruises that fit the bill, but would be great to have some advice. We like a good beach day and a good adventure hiking and exploring, so open to almost anything! We are big fans of snorkeling. I believe the ships are very similar, but would be happy to hear about the ships. The two itineraries are very different, and that's mostly what I'm wondering about. We've been to Costa Maya and Cozumel, going back would be great. None of us have visited the other ports.
  18. Does anyone know if there is a difference in the Empress OV’s on deck 4, 7, 8 or 9. I’m not interested in advantages/disadvantages of deck, just the actual cabins. We sailed empress a couple years ago, but I was only in my cabin and don’t know if there’s a difference in any other OV’s. thanks marci
  19. I cancelled my May 17 2021 Empress on March 21st. Expecting redundable deposit of $750 to be returned. Given cancellation #s by TA and told refund in 3 to 5 business days. Today the info changes and now Royal advising TA refund will take 4 to 6 weeks. Between this and the cxld 3/29 Freedom cruise worth $3750 (2 cabins) they are holding a lot of my money til end April.
  20. Im planning a cruise with my cousin just the two of us. I need a trip that’s away without my family, this will be my first in my entire life. We had arrived at the empress, cost and time were factors. While waiting to get approved the time off I ran across MSC seaside having a sailing the same time. I’ve only been on NCL getaway and breakaway. We aren’t getting a drink pkg but I plan to drink more than my cousin so prices are less on msc. I like shoes and she’s indifferent. Didn’t do one on her last cruise. I have some room, I am paying most the cruise price, to maybe upgrade to symphony. It
  21. First timer on RCCL and researching an october canada cruise - usually get a balcony but looking at OV cabins - found a good rate but concerned about possible noise? According to deck plans cabin 7178 is over the Boleros night club (port/aft) - I wondering how noisy it will be at night? Looks like a latin band plays there in the evenings - not sure how late that goes and if music would be heard in cabin? Any insight from RCCL experts greatly appreciated! Thanks 🙂
  22. I am accustomed to using wifi calling to stay in touch with my 93 year old mother. On Anthem I was able to do this with Surf only ( I am not trying to face time, just make calls). On Grandeur Surf was not adequate and I had to upgrade to surf and stream. I previously purchased Surf only for an upcoming Empress cruise for an excellent price. Do I need to upgrade to Surf and Stream on Empress ( rates are no longer a bargain and this close to sailing probably will not be, though still cheaper than on board). Thanks for your help.
  23. I wasn't sure I would post this trip live but Empress is secret favorite of mine and she doesn't get much attention here. Empress is a small ship yet she doesn't feel small on board, as long as you pick the right cabin. In the wake of the abrupt Cuba changes fares have been very reasonable including Junior Suite rates. On a small ship the added space and balcony of a Junior Suite goes a long way to not feeling the size of the ship. It's also the only to have a balcony. The fact that cruising solo in a suite will net me triple Crown and Anchor points wasn't lost on me.
  24. So sad. We canceled our cruise that we should have been boarding in 17 days. But, I've asthma and am in that 60+ category. So, we made a decision. (Worst things have happened.) So, we now have a credit that we have to use by the end of 2021. We probably will go back to New England/Canada for the 6th time. The three ships I mentioned are the ones in the area in September-October. Freedom is the newest, but it has many, many passengers. Brilliance and Empress are smaller which we prefer, but old. I'd love some opinions about all three ships, especially if the two older ones are showing their
