  1. We are on Explorer in Feb 2020 and was wondering if we need to get tickets to the evening shows each night or just go, find a seat and enjoy the show? Also we are signed up for My Time dining because early ding was not available so do we need to make a reservation each night to dine or can we go the first night and get a table and request that table again for the remainder of the cruise??
  2. For the Dec 13th sailing, I am able to upgrade from inside to either balcony GTY or panoramic oceanview (bigger room). Since we are a party of 2 adults 2 small kids, we would likely end up in a "spacious balcony" rather than a regular balcony. The upgrade would cost me $39CAD per cabin, however I would lose my $125 OBC. What should I do?
  3. Does the Explorer have separate USB ports in cabins? Related question, I know you are not allowed to bring extension cords on the ship. Are you allowed to bring the multi-outlet/usb hub units that plug directly into the outlet without a cord? I know they can't be surge protected. And would any of them even fit though? It seems like the outlets are in kind of a tight space.
  4. A group of 3 couples are making plans for our next cruise together, and we are hoping to know if the balconies on Vision of the Seas (or Explorer OTS, or Empress OTS) can be opened up between cabins that are side-by-side? We'd love to be able to have one big balcony, and I've heard that some people have been able to do that. So far, it has not been physically even possible on the ships we've cruised. Look forward to hearing from any of you who know about this possibility. Thanks!
  5. I saw some reviews before I went that the ship was looking worn and tired. That was not my experience at all - everything was fine. Cabin was clean and comfortable and generally the ship seemed in decent condition - can't expect a new ship/new refurb all the time. Food was generally ok. Had one inedible main course in the MDR but that can happen. Service first night was very slow but after that fine. Very disappointed in the Formal nights. At least half didn't bother first formal night - and there were guests in the MDR in t shirt and tracksuit bottoms. We didn't bother dressing up for the 2nd formal night (although still proper dress) and a lot of others seemed to follow suit. If people don't want to participate, there are plenty of other parts of the ship they can go to. It's a shame there was no enforcement at all. My mother had some service issues. Her suitcase was put on arrival in a different corridor from where her cabin was causing some panic. Guest services just said (at 6pm) to wait until 8pm and then ask again. I found it by wandering around her deck. Also, her Cabin was not turned down the first night and twice her breakfast never arrived. These may not seem big things, but when you are 83 it does cause some upset. Casino was very good (and very busy every night) and the staff helpful. One passenger won a £13k Grand jackpot on one of the slots. I earned a Certificate for a free future cruise. Sadly the options for the cruises are quite limited - all US based, with 10 of them from dates already passed. I probably will only therefore be able to use the trade in value.
  6. Hi! I am booking a Mediterranean cruise for the family and Explorer of the Seas seems to be the only one on the itinerary we wanted. Family of 5 with 2 adults and 3 school aged children. My travel agent told me that the Ultra Spacious Ocean View room (265 sq. ft.) at the very front of the explorer can hold all 5. Two questions: 1. Have any of you had experience with these rooms? Would it be enough space for 5? Should I add an inside cabin just for the extra bathroom? 2. My son is prone to motion sickness, so we always do midship. Will the very front be too rocky or noisy during sailing? I heard the Mediterranean is usually calm in summer, but I've never been. Thanks! Jenny
  7. Is the bed near the door or balcony, on Explorer, in the regular balcony staterooms?
  8. Not sure if we want to book a Jr. Suite or not. Does Explorer have any up dinning for jr. suites? We have not been on this ship since it moved out of NJ and thinking about a cruise 2021 after dry dock. Last time we booked a suite they had special suite area for the pool but that was G. Suite. They did have special dinning for lunch and breakfast.
  9. If any has taken the 9 day cruise out of Miami on the Explorer recently, could you please copy a few pages of the Compass for me? I am trying to decide which dining time to get. I know we can do anytime, but my family likes a regular table with other people We currently have late dining which is our preference, but last time we missed a lot of events, especially Karaoke which my son loves to do!! Thanks for any help.
  10. My mother is on deck 12 for a cruise next week on Explorer of the Seas,. In the ticket booklet it gives the check in time from deck 10 downwards - deck 12 is not mentioned. I assume it has not been updated since the cabins on deck 12 were added even though this was a a few years ago. So I phone the call centre to ask about check in for deck 12. The first agent just couldn't get what I was asking and eventually came back saying Royal Caribbean. never board by deck number and therefore my question was wrong. The 2nd agent understood the question. but didn't have any answer (after putting me on hold for 10 minutes). I assume the check in time will be the same as deck 10? This is not the first time I have had problems with their offshore call centre. Oh to be able to speak to someone in Southampton as used to be.
  11. I've seen a few people that seem to think that Explorer will get a similar refurbishment to Navigator. I personally don't get why considering that Navigator was completely redesigned with the 3/4 night market in mind and in particular, the entire pool deck is designed for the Caribbean and wouldn't work in Europe. I have noticed that she is out of service for 2 months, so it looks like her drydock is fairly extensive and certainly much better than what Voyager will be getting. I am thinking of cruising in Europe next year and Explorer from Civitavecchia is one of the options, so am intrigued. Hoping that they add solo cabins. What do you think will be added?
  12. Just got off Allure of th Seas Diamond drinks were available during happy hours at any bar, lounge, or main dining room. is it the same on Explorer of the Seas? Also there was a complimentary latte/cappachino machine on Allure. Is there one in Explorer?
  13. New to Royal and sailing on explorer of the seas may 17, 2020 10 day from Rome with a group of 6 of us. Have figured out a lot by reading and searching but for some reason I am struggling to figure out which days will be the 'formal nights' (and how many) so we can plan which night to have a 3x50th birthday dinner at chops. Trying to plan ahead. also what time will the evening shows happen? And is there somewhere I can go to get an idea as to what kind of shows they are? with my time dining and being a group of 6 are we best to pre-book dining times or wing it? Also looking at the behind the scenes tour on board and looking for thoughts as to how it was and if it is worth the $118 Canadian per person. thank you, Very excited to try a new cruise line and beyond excited for our first trip to Europe. Dianna
  14. 1) Any tips and tricks for 2 adults on Explorer? 2) We loved the solarium on the bigger ships - how is the adult pool on Explorer? 3) Where are some good quiet locations to hang out? For example, on Majesty we enjoyed the deck chairs behind the movie screen for people watching. 4) How are the live music venues? We love listening to live music but not dancing! We are hoping to catch some jazz in Dizzy’s. 5) What’s your favorite bar?
  15. I know there's a way to tell if your cabin has the bed closest to the balcony or the bathroom. How do I do that on Explorer?
  16. Any idea when the Explorer is due to get her make over?
  17. When Explorer sails from Miami, does the ship offer luggage service to FLL?
  18. I booked cabin 8630 on Explorer. Have not been on this ship in ages and was wondering if this location is good. Usually on a higher floor but last time we ended under the buffet, lol. Thanks for any help. Also, besides the extra room is there any advantage to booking a Junior suite. On Anthem you got to eat in the special restaurant, The Kitchen, which was really nice.
  19. Hello, I am so happy to say that we will be returning to Royal Caribbean in January! We were Carnival-Turned-MSC cruisers, but found a good deal on a 9 night cruise on the Explorer of the Seas to all new ports that we could not turn down. However, by the time we board the ship, it will be nearly 4 years since my last RCI cruise (which was on the Empress of the Seas, which obviously does not reflect the grandeur of the Royal ships), and 8 years since my first RCI cruise, a Hurricane Sandy cruise on the Enchantment of the Seas. For the other two people in my party, it will be their first RCI cruises. Either way, I am very excited to not only make it back to RCI, but to give them a fair try and see if they can win me over in 2020. I just booked this cruise and I have some questions, so I'm grateful for any help whatsoever! 1) We are booked in a Panoramic Oceanview Stateroom (very excited!), which is above the gym and next to the Vitality Spa. Will there be a lot of hallway traffic specifically for the Spa, or is the spa entrance by the elevators/stairs? Will there be noticeable noise from the gym and/or spa? Obviously, the gym will be closed at night, but will a morning yoga or spin class wake us up? 2) We will have a 19 year old with us, a college freshman. When he was younger, he loved going to the teen clubs and making friends, but now that he's over 18, he's struggling to make friends on cruises. Does Royal do anything for the 18-20 age group since they can't drink? Or will he just have to hope for a lonely straggler his age at night and just strike up a conversation? 3) Does Royal have any special restaurants included in the price of the cruise? Carnival has Guys Burgers, Blue Iguana Cantina, etc, does Royal have a similar concept? Or are all the specialty dining options for an upcharge? 4) Are there any "secret decks" or special areas to note on the Explorer like Carnival has on many of their ships? We are trying to get the local tips before we sail so we can try to blend in 😉 5) Since we take vacations the same week each year, we typically board a ship with that week off and try to use the specials onboard for booking a future cruise. What will the onboard special be for booking onboard? If we like RCI/want to give it another chance, we may want to just book onboard. 6) What are the drink options in the Windjammer without the drink package? 7) What are the lunch options on embarkation day besides Windjammer? And when will our stateroom be available? Can you carry suitcases onboard, or will you need to leave them with the porters? We will be embarking from Port Miami. I can also assume that embarkation will begin around 11AM? 8 ) What machines/appliances are in the gym/spas? Are there saunas and steam rooms for regular passengers? Does it usually get crowded? 9) Any excursion or day trip recommendations for Labadee, Aruba, Bonaire, and/or Curacao? All of them will be new ports for us, so any tips would be greatly appreciated! 10) Any general RCI tips/notable differences between MSC and Carnival? We really want to like RCI, and I'm hoping now that we're trying one of their new ships, we will have a great experience that propels us to book with them again in the future, so any general tips on how to maximize either the Explorer specifically and/or a Royal cruise in general would be greatly appreciated. Again, thank you in advance so so SO much to anyone that can help, happy cruising!
  20. This will be my first Europeon cruise and would appreciate any advice, tips for international cruising. I read somewhere that we do not go through customs at debarkation, Is this correct? Any other useful info is appreciated. Flying in from US.
  21. Booked a 5 night in January, Labadee/Nassau. Price was right and dates fit. Any recent cruisers with information as to Adventure Ocean, Pools, any kid specific pool areas, other Kids activities and general condition of the ship. I know it has the flowrider but my kids (6/8) didn't love it so much. I've read some negative reviews that the ship is somewhat worn and will be cruising pre-amp... We're in a balcony so the view should be good and all I really need is a balcony and a glass of wine but worried about the kids being less excited as we just got off the Navigator and they completely fell in love with it.. THANKS!
  22. Which ship do you prefer? I know they're sister ships. We actually were on Explorer of the Seas in 2001! Seems like yesterday. However, it's not yesterday. Which ship is in better condition. Doing a quick read of current reviews, it seems Adventure gets pretty good reviews while Explorer's reviews are not great. The room category we'd select would probably be a Junior Suite. Itinerary Southern Caribbean.
  23. i just booked 9 day cruise in feb 2020 wondering if it be being refurbished before or after feb 2020??
  24. Explorer hump rooms are good, right? What I mean is they are not noisy. I think some ships like the Vision are noisy.
  25. We do not smoke and try to avoid smoking areas. What are the rules for smoking and where are the smoking areas on Explorer of the Sea? My wife was told since our ship departs from Southampton in England there is no smoking allowed in the Casino. Good for us. I am worried that people will smoke on their balcony and we won’t like being on our bakaciny. What are the rules and do people follow them? Thank you.
