  1. I’ve never done a review of a cruise but always enjoy reading the reviews so I thought I would give it a try and write a review. I say semi-live because I will most likely look at this late evenings after my day is done and I settle done for the night. I am typing from my phone so please excuse any typos. 😳 Now for a little about myself and my cruise. I am traveling with my family. We are a family of four that have cruised before. I have two teenagers- one 18 year old and a 16 year old. I often see questions about teens so I will add a bit about what they do throughout the cruise. The kids have gone through various age groups at the camps in the past. The 18 year old just aged out of the camp and the 16 year old is still able to join in the camp activities. Both have enjoyed the Cabos over the years as it had given them the chance to meet other kids their age to hang out with during the week. They have found that the first few days all the kids go to the camp and form groups. These groups tend to stick together throughout the duration of the cruise. Day 1 the 16 year old went up and met other kids. The 18 year cannot go to the camp any longer but is able to go to the on board club but not drink alcoholic drinks but can order virgin drinks. As far as the cruise, the itinerary is nine nights up the NE and Canada. We will stop in Boston, Massachusetts; Portland and Bar Harbor, Maine; Saint Johns Canada and Halifax Canada. Day at one was fantastic! Boarding in Baltimore is so easy. As you enter the parking lot, the attendant directs you to the luggage carts. You luggage is pulled out of your car and than you park. It took about 10 minutes to get through security at 12:00pm. We than took the boarding pictures and were on board by 12:30pm. Vacation has started!!! 😀. Once on board, we headed to lunch. Being in a suite, we were treated to a special lunch for suite guest. I ordered salmon and it was delicious. Husband and kids ordered skirt steak. Once I figure out how to upload pictures, I will post a few. After lunch, we roamed a bit to get reacquainted with the ship. Next was the mandatory muster drill. It was very well run and went quickly. and than went up to the concierge lounge. We met a few cruisers and enjoyed lovely conversation and then headed down to our room to unpack and get ready for dinner. Dinner was pork chops with fresh veggies. After dinner, we e plotted a bit more before heading to the Pacific Lounge for the ABBA trivia game. I am horrible at trivia but it was fun nonetheless. After the trivia there was karaoke. I watched the first few performance and then headed back to the room to finish unpacking. Once unpacked, I headed up to the Viking Lounge. It was not crowded but fun. The bartender was personable and it was a nice way to end Day 1.
  2. We would love to book a Grand Suite, but all suites are right below the Windjammer/Pool deck. Please help! I'm so afraid of the noise from the deck above. What has been your experience? Thank you so much.
  3. Grandeur of the Seas. Will be the first time in Owner's Suite. Have found different amenities offered on different sites. Can any one clarify what amenities are offered? Fruit basket on arrival, Captain's Table for dinner, anything you can think of? Just excited and want to pack/plan accordingly. Thank you!
  4. The long awaited replacement of the poolside video screen on Grandeur of the Seas is now underway. A team joined us yesterday in Port Canaveral who took down the old LED box system. This morning a much larger team boarded at Miami to load numerous crates via a large crane. Parts of decks 9 and 10 were closed off during the lift. The attached photo shows scaffolding being erected for installation of the new screen. While no announcements have been made as to when the screen will be ready, there is a team of about five technicians on board who appear to be the actual video installers. It does look like this will be a new technology solution rather than just replacement of the LED box screen elements as they have removed all of the older mounting hardware. The crates are marked "Daktronics", who are a U.S. based provider of large outdoor video displays. Hopefully this will be a much brighter and sharper system. /Greg
  5. In late 2020 or 2021 I am thinking of taking a cruise out of Baltimore on the Royal Carribean Grandeur of the Sea with my wife and 2 kids (my 2 kids will be 3 and 6 at the time). I have done Carnival Pride out of Baltimore before with a cruise their also scheduled this coming October but want to do Royal Carribean next year or 2021 for my first time since my youngest will be 3 then so he can be in their kids club. What are your thoughts on this ship? Sailing out of Baltimore is easier for me because it is a 2 hour drive, I do not want to fly with kids yet. If you have sailed this ship and Carnival Pride how does Grandeur compare?
  6. We have a 9-night cruise booked on the Grandeur for October. At the time, we were not using scooters when we cruised (booked in October of 2018). We now cruise with two scooters due to mobility issues. We have an inside cabin and I've called to see if there are any fully accessible cabins available for our sailing, there are not. I know when we sailed the Majesty last year, we did see scooters parked in the hallways (we are right near the elevator lobby and that is where we would park, if possible). I know that what RCCL (and all cruiselines) tell passengers is that you need the charge the scooter in your cabin. I also know that once you are on board, things can be slightly more relaxed. For example, we recently sailed Celebrity and they came and took the scooters when requested and charged them for us, bringing them back the early the next morning. Has anyone had any experience on RCCL (the Grandeur specifically), of that kind of service being offered? If they are going to be hard and fast on the no scooters in the hall or elevator lobby, I need to look in to changing this itinerary for something with a handicapped accessible cabin. Thanks!

This was the first cruise my mom has taken since my dad died almost two years ago. She said she wasn't going to cruise again without my dad, but we invited her anyway because I knew she wanted to see Bermuda. I was very happy she decided to go! I think she had a good time, even though she wasn't feeling well part of the time. I'll write up some general comments in a bit and post more pictures. If anyone has questions about the ship or what we did in Bermuda, I'll be glad to answer if I can.
  10. I am just wondering if anyone has ever purchased the package which gives you three fitness classes for $29. Is this a good deal? Is there any way to find out the class schedule before boarding? I called RC but they were not very helpful. Will be on Grandeur later this month. Much appreciated!
  11. Does anyone have any experience or insight into benefits on Grandeur. The program seems more beneficial on larger ships with more activities and people. For example where would the reserved seats be in the theater?

  13. Just got off the ship today if any one has questions. Overall a great experience. Ship is small so lacks some of the amenities of the larger ships but makes up for it with the great personalized service. Embarkation Day was so easy, pulled in to the port at 10:15 and was eating my first Ice Cream at 10:45. Didn't even have to sit and wait at any point. Emerald so had a priority lane but didn't look like any lanes were backed up at all. John and Katrina do a great job and have an amazing team working for them, especially Michael and Melissa. The activities were well ran and very entertaining. They were fun and engaging but not over the top. RCCL singers and dancers were very good, way higher quality than Carnival. The Headliner acts were very good, Olympian Lance Ringnald did a acrobat/variety show that was so entertaining, nothing like I've seen on other ships.Chris Dugdale did a great magic/mind control show. The comedians both phenomenal. Clint Holmes and another lady sang, I was ok with those but not blown away. Food and service in the Main Dining room was really, really good. Shereen/Nikola our wait staff was excellent, efficient, courteous, kind and very attentive. If you go on RCCL definitely get the Warm Dark Chocolate cookie, it puts their own Lava cake and Carnivals WCMC to shame. Very nice to go on a cruise in the main dining room and not have people grossly break the dress code. Buffet was so so, met expectations and it is what it is. Service was real good. Park Cafe was a big disappointment, never any glasses, ice, napkins, etc. Seems like the forgotten area of the ship, needs some more love and attention. The one event I have never seen on any other ships is the Grandeur Fair. That was very nice event. Carnival games with staff from all the departments, they were fun and having a good time with the cruisers. Plus you had a chance to win some prizes. Being the first trip to Canada/New England the weather was not great so kept a lot of people in doors. Any popular events that were at Centrum, Schooner, South Pacific lacked seating. A lot due to nature of cruise but also self inflicted as seats removed for art, picture stations, etc. that they could consider other options for versus removing seating. Those are the quick highs and lows. Solid 9 out of 10, would definitely sail this ship, itinerary and with this staff again.
  14. We sailed the Grandeur of the Seas from Baltmore to Bermuda & Charleston on April 25- May 1. I wanted to share our experience as others sharing before us helped us get ready for our trip, I wanted to do the same. As life has been busy, it has taken me a little bit to get to where I could write this. Hopefully it will have value for some. If anyone has questions, please feel free to ask. A little background. We had booked this cruise over a year and a half ago. Bermuda has been on hubby’s bucket list for a while. And since we live in the Carolinas, we said – It’s drivable. Fast forward to last year. Do to family situations, it became a very busy and stressful year. So, we decided to fly. By the date for the trip arrived, we were WELL beyond needing a vacation. Also, I used to live and work in Baltimore many years ago so was looking forward to see going back and seeing what’s changed (lots). April 24 - After much anticipation our travel day arrived. We always like to fly(drive) to port the day before the cruise. We flew from Charlotte to BWI. Everything went smoothly, timely and quickly. We got our luggage quickly, called for our Uber and within 5 minutes we were on our way to the Inner Harbor. We had booked a room at the Brookshire Suites (a Best Western boutique hotel). They are located on Lombard Street, one block from the Inner Harbor (catty corner to The Gallery). We got there before regular check in time. We were told the basic room we reserved was not ready yet, but she was able to upgrade us and check us in at no extra cost. We were given our room cards and told when/where the complimentary breakfast is held. We got in the elevator which requires the proximity room card to operate. We walked into our room. Wow. It was a one-bedroom suite. There was a small kitchenette (small fridge, coffee maker and microwave), a living room with desk, chair, sofa and tv. The bedroom had an amazingly comfortable bed along with tv, nightstands, clock, mirror, etc.. The bathroom was small but nicely appointed and did have a tub/shower combo. The windows in each room looked towards the alley & other buildings, nothing special. But the good news is it didn’t face the road so that would reduce any city noise. IF I had to look for anything ‘wrong’ with the room and condition the most I could say bad was the door hinge in the bathroom was either dirty or rusty and the sprinkler ‘head’ was missing the molding around it. Oh, and the remote for the living room tv didn’t work. All no big deals. And the cost was (after taxes, fees, etc..) was approx. $100! The breakfast was standard BW breakfast fare (waffles, cereal, eggs, muffins, juice, coffee, etc...) When we checked in, we asked about a shuttle to the pier. They hooked us up with EZ Shuttle Service. We requested 10:30am. They said they would contact the company and gave us their card so we could call if we had any questions. We then decided to go out and about. We walked down to Inner Harbor. The ‘shops’ in the 2 main buildings had changed considerable. One building used to be a whole slew of different food and craft type stands/businesses. Now they were just a few tourist type stores and a couple food places. We walked around the harbor over to where Rusty Scupper is and took the free harbor ferry over to the other side. We then walked around and over to the Barnes and Noble and back up and around. Hubby wanted to go up to the Top of the World observation tower as we had never done that (have done aquarium more times than I can count). We then had a simple dinner and did a little more walking. Before winding down, we walked a block over to the Royal Farms (think 7/11 type store) and I bought a package of Bergers Cookies. As a side note, I am proud that they made it all the way through the cruise and home before I opened them. IF you like cookies and chocolate, check them out. They are a local Baltimore thing.

  17. I thought about doing a live from the Grandeur, because I had not seen one from one of the small, older ships for quite a while. Then, @DragonOfTheSeasdid a “Live” for the 21 day B2B just before this one. So, just consider this as a continuation, of sorts, but this time the ship is headed to Bermuda. It has been 9 years since we sailed Grandeur, so we will see what shape she is in. So sit back, and follow along for the next 7 days, as we are Bermuda bound.   18. I know that Diamond plus members could have access to the concierge clubs on Grandeur & Anthem last year. Are we still allowed if we are not in a suite? Thanks
  19. I don't know what happened, but somehow we booked another cruise. We are sailing on the Grandeur, out of Baltimore on August 31, 2019 (5 night)...I do have some questions... Please note we are Diamond Plus members and we have been on Grandeur a couple of times...but not always the same...so.... 1. We are thinking of driving to the Port and parking. Is the garage next to ship? Pay before or after cruise? $15 per day? Secured? 2. We normally have balcony, Jr. Suite, or Grand Suite...this time we are doing an Oceanview (no balcony)....it was free. Are we going to be in shock? 3. We are sailing from Baltimore. Last time, the didn't allow the casino to open until the day after debarkation. Is that normal? 4. We are going to Bermuda (Kings Wharf)....we are staying at the port overnight. Is the casino open while at the port? 5. Any must do Tours? (please note we are the get on the bus type of people. Nothing strenuous.)... Thank you all in advance.

  21. We haven't been on RCCL for quite a few years and our last one was Explorer of the Sea. The only other class of ships we were on was The Radiance. The Grandeur goes out of Baltimore, so, no flying! We've never been on a ship as old as her. Would we be disappointed??
  22. Welcome to our B2B cruise. We are very excited to begin our adventure. This cruise will be made up of a 9-night Southeast Coast cruise [Charleston, Port Canaveral, Miami, Nassau overnight] and a 12-night Southern Caribbean cruise [St Croix, St Lucia, Antigua, St Kitts, St Martin]. Yep, we are onboard for 21 days. This will be the longest continuous time onboard and the longest away from home for us. I will let you know how we do. We had a few issues getting to this point. Below is not intended as a rant or even a complaint. I thought someone may want to know what the procedure is in case of a cancellation. 1. Two years ago, we booked the Grandeur March 16 cruise with the same S. Caribbean itinerary listed above. Then in November RCL announced Grandeur had to go into a drydock for a routine maintenance in early March. They cancelled 2 cruises, including ours. The explanation on Cruise Critic was that RCL had gotten an extension for the last drydock. RCL felt they had a given length of time for the next drydock from that date. The Coast Guard said, Nope! The clock started ticking from the original date. 2. They gave us 3 cruise dates with the same itinerary [2 in February and the April 6 cruise] that they would price match our cruise for the same category. We chose April 6. However, that close to the sail date most/many categories were sold out—including our Panoramic Ocean View cabin. There were no suites or balconies and only 3 ocean-view cabins left, all on deck 2 [also some inside cabins]. So, we booked an OV-2538. Our Travel agent had to go to bat for us, so we did not have to pay more to get one of these cabins. I was bummed. 3. One thing we noticed was that the new cabin was available for the March 28 cruise, too. DH said let’s make lemonade out of lemons and we booked that cruise. So, here we are with a B2B. So, I am not bummed anymore. Happy wife. . . Happy life.

  24. I am looking at Adventure and Grandeur for 2020--same itinerary, same time period (autumn). I think I read Adventure is like the "new" Navigator (which I will be on in October). Grandeur is slightly smaller but people seem to like it okay. I do not have children if that makes a difference. On Grandeur if my deck is deck 8 which cabins should I avoid insofar as noise from deck 9 which is the pool deck? On Adventure if my deck is Deck 10 which cabins should I avoid insofar as noise from Deck 11 which is the pool deck? Any thoughts are appreciated.
  25. I was spoiled on my last cruise on the freedom with that cigar lounge. Spent almost ever night there and meet some great people. Any one smoke cigars on the Grandeur? It looks like i have to do it on the pool deck. Was wondering if they do the cigar under the sky like on other ships. Really hoping they may be a regular few guys who smoke at night like there was on freedom. Really wish royal would put back the lounge on there ships.
