San Pedro from a San Pedran

We are booked on a Coastal cruise on the Grand Princess for April 2014. The itinerary shows a port stop in Long Beach (not Los Angeles/San Pedro). We are doing a roundtrip out of San Francisco.

Does anyone know if Princess actually docks any of their ships in Long Beach?

Thanks.

Has anyone stayed at the Sunrise Hotel in San Padro since it's become an independent hotel? I'm trying to research this hotel, but haven't seen too many reviews.

Here are reviews on Trip Advisor for it:

We stayed there 3 years ago and wouldn't go back. Check the reviews for the last few months ... lots of 1, 2, 3 out of 5.

Did some double checking and cross referencing of itinerary confirmations. Looks like on our itinerary out of SF that we actually do dock at Long Beach not San Pedro.

The new Crafted at the Port of Los Angeles opened in June. Here is a link to their website: http://craftedportla.com/

This new facility is on the corner of 22nd and Harbor. You can take the Red Car to 22nd street or in the fall, they should have the trolley running from the Port to Cabrillo Beach. At least that is the plan.

So with the USS Iowa, Crafted and the new Trolley there is no need to leave San Pedro if you need to kill a few hours before heading to the airport.

We are trying to get our local PBID to fund and open a luggage storage area near the Port. I'll update any progress on that as soon as I hear from them.

For a calendar of events go to the Chamber of Commerce website: http://www.sanpedrochamber.com/

They are doing a superb job of keeping their site updated with all that is happening in San Pedro.

Fall is fast approaching...welcome to San Pedro!!!

2-star at best. If you are coming in late at night and just need a bed...you'll get that and not much else.

They are not community friendly and don't know much about the area. How one can operate a business and not know anything of your surroundings is pretty remarkable to me.

I have had decent success estimating taxi rates by using the following web site:

http://www.taxifarefinder.com/main.p...=Long-Beach-CA

By entering your from and to addresses, this site uses google maps to estimate the fare for light, medium, and heavy traffic.

For a taxi ride from World Cruise Center (600 N Harbor Blvd, San Pedro, California) to LGB, taxifarefinder.com gets a 12.6 mile trip at $37.62 + tip for light traffic, $41.38 + tip for medium traffic, and $46.08 + tip for heavy traffic.

Unfortunately, the site does not give the date for the rates being used for Long Beach as it does for Seattle. A quick search at Yellow Cab for Long Beach (http://longbeachyellowcab.clickforward.com/rates/) shows that the initial charge is $2.85 plus $0.30 for each additional 1/9th mile plus wait-time charges. The calculated fares suggest to me that the rates being used by taxifarefinder.com are close enough for estimating purposes.

It is possible that a flat rate may apply. Another member reported that flat rates are posted inside the taxi, which I did not think to ask about or look for on our last taxi ride.

The link shown is not working. Here's another try to provide a valid link.

thanks! I see a cab from LAX to the Pier is around 35-40 so I definitely ask about a flat rate.

My only direct experience with taxi fares in Long Beach/San Pedro is from LGB to Crowne Plaza so I hesitate to comment, but $35-$40 seems low for a taxi fare from LAX to the pier unless it is available as a flat rate.

For a taxi ride from LAX to World Cruise Center (600 N Harbor Blvd, San Pedro, California), taxifarefinder.com suggests a 19.8 mile trip at $56.62 + tip for low traffic, $59.44 + tip for medium traffic, and $62.98 + tip for heavy traffic. A lower flat rate, of course, could very well be available.

I cannot vouch for taxifarefinder.com except when I have used it as a tool to estimate fares in Seattle and Long Beach, it has been close enough to actual to satisfy me.

I hope that you are correct about the fare from LAX to the pier and others with direct experience will comment.

I'm not sure if this is the closest location .... when we were at the Crowne Plaza this past May, we walked up to CVS ... it may have been a @ 5 - 10 minute walk ... we actually passed Mishi's Cafe (which has great comments on this thread), but we had already had lunch.

Leaving Mon. AM for LB and the Inspiration. Driving from SD. Any freeway issues, besides the usual, that we should know about ?

Thanx,

Pat

No--no freeway issues during the day but the 22/605/405 intersection is oftentimes closed at night. The 7th St offramp is open again is you were planning to drive surface streets across LB rather than take the 405 to the 710.

We have always stayed at the Crowne. Thinking of staying here because they offer more than the Crowne, and I'm not getting a good bid price on the Crowne.

Is it safe, clean, and still close to stores like the Crowne? Thanks.

Where will you be staying? I see you have stayed at the Crowne but are staying somewhere else now? Which hotel?
