Good times on the Sun

Will do longer review when rested, but our family just returned from 10 day Caribbean trip on the Sun. Yes, the ship is showing wear and age, but certainly did not detract from our experience. Some minor issues like non-existent internet connections (thus wasting lots of money), unpleasant smell in penthouse bathrooms and virtually unusable shower in penthouse. BUT, the ship personnel were fantastic - did not encounter a single unpleasant, unhelpful person. This was also the first time we had most of our dinners in the main dining room and the food was very good. We also had a fabulous dinner in East Meets West - service and food were excellent. Overall, very positive.:)

We were on the Sun in Nov, 10 day cruise and loved it. As you said there are areas that show wear, but overall the ship looks very good. I like this size ship for longer sailings. The big ships on sea days seem to be crowded. Everyone seems to go to the same places at the same time. We are not ones for the big water slides and stuff. Give me a books, a drink, the sun and a sea breeze and I'm there.

Wait for you review

What response from Hotel Director? Yikes, what happened, and of course what cabin did you have. We are on the Sun in a Foreward Penthouse in Feb. hopefully problems will be resolved??

Sailed the Sun in 2006 our first time on NCL, have been 10 times since then on other NCL Ships.

Looing forward to your review.

We were in aft penthouse 0265; my sister was in aft penthouse 0065; my Mom was in mini-suite 0066 (adjoining my sister). The problem was the size of the shower - it was super-tiny - I am only 5' and it was too small for me - you can imagine how it was for my 6'4" husband! But, there was also a shower in the tub, so no problems. And, yes, I think the Sun is a great size - we are also not "bells and whistles" people and spend a lot of time on the balcony reading and watching the ocean. There were no crowded areas except for the casino, which I thought was small, but I can lose my $ in a big or little casino, doesn't matter! My husband actually went to a lot of the crew question/answer sessions and enjoyed them. Our concierge was Patrick and he was delightful - a wonderful change from our concierge on the Pearl last year. Room steward was Jonathan and he is moving to the Breakaway - he was also very good & friendly.

We'll be in an aft penthouse on Jan 1.

Glad to see there were only 'minor' inconveniences :)

How was the butler services? My parents (who will also be in an aft penthouse) had the cabin I will be in back in 2006 and there were limited butlers, so just curious (and so are my parents) :)

Thanks!

Thanks!

The Sun has 2 butlers for 20 suites. How did they feel that was limited? Just curious as I am a Sun suite cruiser too.

At the time my mom had a lot of health issues and needed certain things. They just felt that they didn't see their butler very often. Of course this was in 2006 and it could have been the butlers itself as well.

Was just curious how the service was recently. We like to use our butler while some may not.

This is Krystin's Mom. Back in 2006, this was our first NCL cruise and our first suite experience. We thought that we would have one butler but both attended us which was a little confusing. For example, we ordered room service; I believe it was the second day, and the other butler brought it. I thought he was just filling in for our butler, but no, they would take turns. As far as not seeing them, the first day I asked for all the restaurant menus. I had to ask three times before they were brought.

We should have complained however, I was very ill at the time and we were new to the whole butler thing so we let it go.

We don't let things go now. :)
