What was your upgrade offer and what did you bid

Hello cruisers,

We just got our upgrade and our bid was accepted on the Breakaway for Jan 19th.

We had a mini suite and bid on a Haven Spa Suite with balcony based on our experience on the Gem in the 2 bedroom Haven suite last January. We love the spa and feel that having both luxuries will be a delightful way to spend two weeks. We live in Boston and have been hit with a deep freeze and a huge Noreaster is on the way.

So our mini suite is available and someone will enjoy their upgrade.

Has anyone paid for an upgrade because pricing went down and then bid for a category above that and gotten the new category? I bid on a balcony and mini suite and then the pricing for the balcony went down lower than I was offering for the bid. So I canceled my bid for the balcony but kept my mini suite bid. NCl canceled my bid for the mini suite twice. So I bid again and so far nothing. We sail in 31 days.

Congrats, if you don't mind what was the cost? We got the same deal you did, mini to H9 on the Jan 5 sailing.

Sailing on January 28th also. We made multiple bids and have not heard anything. We are anxious to find out and have been told we may not find out until the week of the trip. - Good luck and hopefully we will see you in the Haven!

We are also sailing the Getaway that same sailing. We have a couple bids in to upgrade to the Haven area proper (we are in a haven spa suite already) and also have not heard anything. At the same time we are tempted to cancel our bids and keep with the room we originally booked. If we decide to keep our bid I will let you know if/when we are awarded the upgrade or not!

We just received the email today for our feb. Sailing. We are in a BA and bid on the penthouse..

I know it’s a vacation week and we probably won’t get it.. But, it would be awesome if we did..

we had to cancel last year because my husband found out he had cancer.. he’s cancer free now and to be in the haven would just make it even better!!!

Which week?

We are on the same sailing and we bid on four different Haven upgrades. I'm not feeling hopeful at this point. Haven spa suites and aft facing penthouse show as sold out on a mock booking. We bid on courtyard penthouse, spa suite, aft facing penthouse and forward facing penthouse. We didn't bid on a mini-suite because it's not that different from a balcony and we like out location for the balcony. We will be fine if we don't get the upgrade, but I really want it!!!!

I just got the decline email so I figured I'll share the details.

Ship: NCL Escape

Sail Date: 1/6/18

Original room: Interior (IC)

Bid for: Balcony

Bid amount: $55-65/pp. Fluctuated a few time but settled on $65.

RESULT: Declined 48 hours before sailing

Obviously I would have loved to surprise my brother with a balcony for his first cruise but we will have a great trip regardless and will just have more reason to spend as much time as possible exploring all the ship has to offer. And I just made $130 that I had already spent in my mind so that's a nice bonus. There were a lot of balcony and mini suite rooms available for booking as of a few days ago so I thought there was a chance we'd get it.

Smart. I wouldn't go more than $50-75 for a balcony from inside.

I would. I think paying even $20 more per day is a steal considering room size and fresh air.

To each his own. Hope we all enjoy where we wind up.

There is no doubt that a balcony is much better than an interior room and probably worth more than I bid. However, we booked Thermal Spa passes so I was fine using that as my "upgrade" and going with a lower bid for the balcony. Everyone has their own opinions on value and their own budget. And you're right, as long as you're happy. After all the worst room on a cruise ship still beats a nice room not on a cruise ship.

I would keep it all to myself as it's our business, not others'. By elaborating what you bid and getting the upgrades would vex the follow cruisers who paid full price for the same category cabins.

I would keep quiet.

You must work for the government lol

Just booked A cruise on Tuesday received the upgrade notice today. We were given a complementary cruise for two inside cabin on the Getaway from the casino group so I put a bid in for Balcony of $255 per person this was in the good range. Is that a fair offer do you think ? If that bid is accepted can you then bid on a higher category ?

This is only our 4th cruise with NCL they did not have this program before. Our total cruises are 37 with other lines.

Thank you for your input !!

If Norwegian put it in the good range, i'd say that you have a pretty good chance. It is my understanding that if this bid is accepted that is as high as you can go. Additionally Norwegian as I understand it allows up to a 2 category upgrade so the most that you can bis for from an interior is a balcony.

Sailing on the 2/3/18 sailing on the Gem. Has anybody heard about any upgrades for this cruise? We are in a forward balcony and bid on a minisuite and Penthouse suite. Lots of both rooms available. I wonder if we have less of a chance because we booked on the all 5 promotion and distinctive voyage promotions.

Did you ask the CAS agent how much it would be to upgrade to balcony? It could be something like $260 or 270 each but it might be less. You could then pick out the balcony cabin you want and just cancel your bid.

Just give them a call and ask. Most of the CAS agents are super-nice about answering your questions. No obligation to buy that upgrade but that information might help you decide which way to go.

Also, If you purchase that upgrade it's possible they would send you a new email giving you the chance to bid on the next two higher categories. From a balcony you could bid on Mini-suites and Suites/Havens.

To book the Balcony at time time I took the inside it was going to run extra $420 per person I said to her I think I will try the bid and see what happens. If we stay with the inside I we be ok with that since it our total was only $140 admin charge and $160 port and taxes per person. If they except my offer it will total $1110 for two in balcony with dinner package included..

I did this on a recent CAS booking, upgraded to an aft balcony, and got to pick out my room, for close to the same amount you are bidding. Worth a call, or a couple calls, to keep checking on the price to pay for the upgrade. I likely could have paid less through bidding, but might have ended in a basic balcony and no control over my room. To me, the cost is worth picking out a great balcony.

It might not hurt to call back when you get a little closer to the cruise date. If there are a lot of balconies we have seen the price to upgrade go down. With CAS, I once had an OceanView comped. I watched the prices and when the OVs (Cat OA) were within $20 per person of the cost of the basic balconies I called. They put me on hold and checked, came back and upgraded me for free. Of course, that was from OV to Balcony but the price gap could narrow from Inside to Balcony. It never hurts to call again;)
