Deck - 13

Stateroom # - 13132

Stateroom Category – BC

Starboard or Port Side - Port

Quiet Stateroom? (With comments on problems) – Yes and no. No wind noise from the balcony, the door latched air tight. We had very loud talking neighbors that could be faintly heard. And at night before bed, we could hear an intermittent rushing water noise. Maybe from 8pm or 9pm until 11pm. We couldn't pinpoint what it was exactly, it sounded different from toilet flushing. It wasn't a problem though, just enough to notice and try to ignore.

Was stateroom a connecting stateroom? - No

Balcony View - Give comments on view, noting if location of any obstructions was an issue. – No obstructions. We were situated above the shuffleboard area.

Balcony Size? Normal or oversized for class? - Normal

Was wind a problem? - No

If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? - Not applicable, this room was forward

Any specific problems with this cabin? - No

Any other comments? - Very satisfied with the storage space in both the room and bathroom. The closet location was awkward, parallel to the length of one side of the bed, with barely a foot of space between the two. Cabin is designed that keycards need to be inserted into a card slot near the door in order for electricity to work. (for ALL lights, outlets, tv, coffee maker)

Ship - Norwegian Escape

Deck - 8

Stateroom # - 8746

Stateroom Category – B3 (family balcony)

Starboard or Port Side - Starboard

Quiet Stateroom? (With comments on problems) – NO definitely not quiet, very very noisy! Avoid this cabin at all costs. Directly over the theatre -- booming music, noises, and vibrations during shows, and off-hours when they are rehearsing (up until 12:30 am one night). Cabin also overlooks starboard shuffle board, so may be a noise issue for some (clinking, talking, etc.); we did not find the shuffle board to be a major issue as we were not usually 'home' during the day and the shuffle boards were not frequently being used (play ends at 8:00pm each night).

Was stateroom a connecting stateroom? - Yes

Balcony View - Give comments on view, noting if location of any obstructions was an issue. – No obstructions, overlooks Deck 7 shuffle board court.

Balcony Size? Normal or oversized for class? - Normal

Was wind a problem? - No

If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? - N/A

Any specific problems with this cabin? - Noise! See above.

Any other comments? - We loved the cabin layout -- very spacious for two people, good storage, huge bathroom. We also loved being on deck 8 as we spent a lot of time in the Atrium, and it was an easy walk to the main dining rooms (decks 6 and 7), plus the Waterfront is great for quiet time. We aren't big 'pool' people, so not inconvenient to be further from the poolside action. Note that this cabin has the sofa (vs. bed) beside the balcony which we prefer. From what we could see, cabins alternate sofa vs. bed by the balcony, so every other cabin had the same layout.

Starboard or Port Side - Aft

Quiet Stateroom? (With comments on problems) – No, we thought being on the Aft was very noisy from engines and water.

Was stateroom a connecting stateroom? - ?

Balcony View - Give comments on view, noting if location of any obstructions was an issue. – open aft view

Balcony Size? Normal or oversized for class? - VERY small, you almost had to sit sidewasy

Was wind a problem? -

If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? - no

Any specific problems with this cabin? -

Any other comments? - We would never book and aft cabin again. Some people love them, we did not. We had been IN the Haven before, there is a BIG difference between a suite and a haven suite.

Ship - Sky

Deck - 10

Stateroom # - 0254

Stateroom Category – balcony

Starboard or Port Side - starboard

Quiet Stateroom? (With comments on problems) – yes, with the exception of some screaming children in the hall and children running above. The nearby staircase was not an issue.

Was stateroom a connecting stateroom? - no

Balcony View - Give comments on view, noting if location of any obstructions was an issue. – great view

Balcony Size? Normal or oversized for class? - small but sufficient

Was wind a problem? - no

If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? -

Any specific problems with this cabin? - The public areas of the ship are in much better shape than the cabin was. It shows a lot of signs of wear, esp. in the bathroom. But the mattress seemed new and the cabin steward did a great job.

Any other comments? - I would recommend this cabin to others.

Stateroom # - 9182

Stateroom Category – BB mid ship

Starboard or Port Side - Port

Quiet Stateroom? (With comments on problems) – this room is right across from the door way leading out from the elevators. Could hear the elevators dinging if no TV on in the room.

Was stateroom a connecting stateroom? -No

Balcony View - Give comments on view, noting if location of any obstructions was an issue. – Nothing is obstructing the view. This room is over the Waterfront so there is a roof sticking out from the balcony. This makes it so you cannot look directly down into the sea.

Balcony Size? Normal or oversized for class? - Normal

Was wind a problem? -not at all

If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? -

Any specific problems with this cabin? -I have stayed in an aft balcony and had a problem with soot, but this balcony we kept finding straws, gum and cigarette butts in the morning. I do not know it people in the upper balconies drop stuff or leave it on their balcony and it blows down.

Any other comments? -I would book this room again because it was so close to the elevators. There were two times when I heard people talking loudly. For the most part I was surprised how quiet it was.

SHIP - Epic

DECK- 13

STATEROOM- 13045

CATEGORY- MC Mini Suite

Starboard

QUIET-- Yes, except in heavy seas when many things rattled

BALCONY-- Large Balcony

This cabin has the reverse configuration. The couch is near the balcony and the bed is near the bathroom area. This is a personal preference, but we liked this much better. We previously had a regular balcony with the bed nearest the balcony. We did not like this at all. This mini suite was more spacious and this configuration worked much better. When there are high seas, which we experienced twice on this cruise and the last, the ship has a lot of motion. It has much more than we had experienced on other large ships.

Ship - Norwegian Jewel

Deck - 11

Stateroom # - 11606

Stateroom Category – MB

Starboard or Port Side - Port

Quiet Stateroom? (With comments on problems) – No. The cabin is directly under the kitchen of the dining room - and every evening there was loud sounds of staff dragging furniture - or something, across the floors upstairs. It woke us up every night we were on board.

Was stateroom a connecting stateroom? - No

Balcony View - Give comments on view, noting if location of any obstructions was an issue. – The balcony was lovely, however, when seated in the chairs on the deck, the balcony railing obstructed our view - I am 5ft 4 and my partner is 6ft 1 and it obstructed both of our views.

Balcony Size? Normal or oversized for class? - It was a good sized balcony. Private and didnt feel cramped with four of us out there.

Was wind a problem? - no

If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? - No

Any specific problems with this cabin? - Cabin is spacious, and comfortable, but very noisy in the evening - if you have a choice, go with a cabin that is not under one of the restaurants.

Any other comments? - There is also no self-laundry service on board. You must pay for each item to be washed if you go with that option, and it is extremely expensive.

Special thanks to Mysticks1 on the Celebrity Cruises forum for this idea. I would like to begin to assemble one for NCL

To the moderators, I would appreciate if we could make this a "sticky" at the top of the page for all to see.

Twice a month - I will try to post a PDF for all the ships and cabin information compiled here.

Please, refrain from posting cabin questions here so this can purely be an informative thread, especially for those that are first time cruisers or seasoned cruisers looking for a great cabin.

The template is as follows:

Dawn 12520 -- SD -- Family Suite with Balcony

Ship -- Dawn

Deck -- 12

Stateroom # -- 12520

Stateroom Category – SD -- Family Suite with Balcony

Starboard or Port Side -- Port

Quiet Stateroom? (With comments on problems) – Definitely not on our cruise. This cabin in the door you see when you get off of the elevator. It is at the entrance to the hallway used to get to the pool/sun deck. It could definitely get loud, but the noise honestly didn't bother us (and we were often going to bed a bit early). But if you are going to be bothered by people-noise, no cabin from this one heading aft in the hallway is the one for you.

Was stateroom a connecting stateroom? No

Balcony View -- Since this is the first forward balcony on the deck, you had an unobstructed view forward. Note that it is uncovered and people on the deck above could see a small part of the balcony if they bothered to look.

Balcony Size? Normal or oversized for class? This is a large balcony, but not the largest in this category. We had two loungers, a regular chair and a small table. One slight issue is that we had a lot of water pooled by the door of our balcony (even if it hadn't rained), so we had to be aware of it as we stepped in and out of the cabin.

Was wind a problem? The balcony was definitely windy, but I'm not sure if it was more windy than others on this cruise. I think it might have been because it was the first forward balcony and it was not enclosed above.

If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? N/A

Any specific problems with this cabin? Besides the noise and people deciding our door was a good place to leave their glasses/plates/empty bottles of wine (again -- we were the door you see when you get off the elevator), no issues.

Any other comments? We are used to a 2-bedroom suite (sailing with three people), but since it was just the two of us, we decided we would do this cabin. It was a good choice and size for us. One thing I didn't like was the lack of storage space in the bathroom. There was definitely space, but the drawers weren't very deep. Since we never use the tub, we used that as an extra bathroom storage area for larger items.

Starboard or Port Side - Starboard (right-hand)

Quiet Stateroom? (With comments on problems) – Very quiet, was concerned when booking due to being directly below buffet dining area. But no sounds were heard from above.

Was stateroom a connecting stateroom? - Can connect to 14830 via the balcony.

Balcony View - Give comments on view, noting if location of any obstructions was an issue. – View was not an issue. Deck 15 overhangs the balcony by at least 10 feet, so on the rare occasion that it rained our balcony was well protected.

Balcony Size? Normal or oversized for class? - Normal, 8' x 4'

Was wind a problem? - No.

If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? -

Any specific problems with this cabin? - None experience by us.

Any other comments? - We were in this stateroom during a Baltic Sea Cruise (Sept 19/2017) The room has plenty of storage with room under the bed for suitcases and what I considered a large wardrobe. Bathroom and shower provided plenty of space for us.

Ship - Gem

Deck - 11

Stateroom # - 11590

Stateroom Category – Mini-Suite

Starboard or Port Side - Starboard

Quiet Stateroom? (With comments on problems) – NO! Unless you’re lucky enough to be on a cruise with no children or teenagers. Disclaimer.... I have two kids of my own, 16 & 7. Definitely not a “kid hater” or anything even close. This cabin is DIRECTLY underneath the Entourage teen club which runs from basically 10:00 AM to 1:30 AM. We originally booked a balcony and submitted a bid to upgrade. No wonder our offer was accepted! Worst mistake we ever made! Despite not quite paying full price for the mini-suite, it was still close to $2,000 per person and was miserable for the entire 11 days. Truly not exaggerating... more often than not, it sounded as if the ceiling was coming down on top of us. Constant running, screaming, banging, etc. I’ve actually gone through this forum and on this alone, have found no less than 7 posts on cabins in this area having the same issues, if not just mentioning that there is a noise issue from above. Worst part is that with all of our complaints, the desk manager on the ship lied right to my face when I asked if anyone else had ever complained about this issue when I was told “no sir, in all honesty, you’re the first”. It got so bad that they gave us a separate inside stateroom to use “to sleep” for the last 4 days which was, while definitely an attempt to remedy the situation on NCL’s part, more of an inconvenience as it was on the same deck, but on the port side of the ship and was 1/3 the size, with no balcony or even a window. We could have paid $500 a person and and gotten that ourselves. That aside, why should we have had to go to another room “to sleep” when we paid a premium for a premium cabin and could not enjoy one of the biggest perks of that “premium”, the balcony outside. There was also a comment made on another thread where I brought this up that (nicely) said, they’d just bring earplugs... that may work for some but at times, again no exaggeration, the noise was so bad that you could actually FEEL it throughout the cabin. More importantly, when paying that kind of money, why should we or anyone else have to wear earplugs anytime we’re in our cabin? Not at all an acceptable solution. Very frustrated as it was our honeymoon and still, after over a month, waiting for some form of reply from NCL!

Was stateroom a connecting stateroom? - Yes but not used as one.

Balcony View - Give comments on view, noting if location of any obstructions was an issue. – View was great. Only had one night on return trip where the wind was blowing in such a way that the ship’s exhaust was blowing directly into the porch/balcony & into the cabin when the door was opened.

Balcony Size? Normal or oversized for class? - I would say normal.

Was wind a problem? - Only once.

If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? - N/A

Any specific problems with this cabin? - YES - See above.

Any other comments? Just very unhappy with NCL right now. It was made abundantly clear when booking that this was our honeymoon and knowing now that NCL is more than aware of prior complaints about excessive noise in these mini-suites, they choose to “upgrade us” into this nightmare of a cabin and are now dragging their feet with regard to dealing with our complaint/concerns. Also, beware..... have seen several other of the same complaints/comments with regard to nearby cabins as well, i.e. 11588, 11592, etc.

Any other comments? - The third bed in the room folds down from the wall. If you aren’t planning on using it, it stays folded up and you get used to seeing it on the wall instead of having a second painting.

This stateroom is very close to the Spinnaker lounge, the pool deck, and the gym.

Quiet Stateroom? (With comments on problems) – Fairly quiet. No noise from above. The only appreciable noise was the sound of the wake, but we loved it.

Was stateroom a connecting stateroom? Yes.

Balcony View - Gorgeous views off the aft of the ship. Great to watch the wake.

Balcony Size? The balcony was huge. It had two loungers, two chairs and a table.

Was wind a problem? Not that we noticed.

If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? Not at all.

Any specific problems with this cabin? The only issue I had personally is it was a bit of a challenge getting the shower/tub. I have short legs and it sits up a bit from the ground. There are handles so i was ok, but I don't think someone with any mobility issues would be able to negotiate it very well. My husband didn't care for the fact that the light in the toilet stall was on a motion detection system so any time there was any movement it would come on, but it didn't bother me.

Any other comments? Loved this room. Bed was huge and comfy. Room was big. Shower and tub in the same enclosure. Toilet in a different enclosure. Nespresso coffee maker - heaven! Table and two chairs in room as well. Bathroom had a scale (boo), q-tips and cotton balls, hair dryer, magnifying lighted mirror, shower poof and Bvlgari shampoo, body wash and lotion. Two robes in closet. TONS of storage. Cool little pull out things on either side of the bed (no side tables due to the layout). There was a dvd player under the counter. The light over the bed resembles a giant toilet seat (not a complaint, just an observation ;)).

Quiet Stateroom? (With comments on problems) – The room was generally quiet although not soundproof. You could hear some other cabins' doors slam shut, and noise when the cabin stewards were cleaning.

Was stateroom a connecting stateroom? - Not sure.

Balcony View - Balcony had full view, no obstructions. A bit of wear and tear and some paint peeling, but it didn't hinder use. The sliding doors stayed open without a bungee, and shut tightly.

Balcony Size? Normal or oversized for class? - Normal size balcony, nothing special. Room for 2 people to sit in upright chairs and a small table.

Was wind a problem? - Wind was not a problem for us on our Carribean itinerary. Some nights, we could hear the party from the pool deck if we had the door open.

Any specific problems with this cabin? - We had no issues with this cabin, but we did run a white noise generator app at night. I did hear some door slamming, from time to time, but it wasn't enough to wake me or ruin my stay.

Any other comments? - The mini-suite had ample space and plenty of hangers for our 6 night cruise. We had brought magnetic wall hooks, which helped. The "hot shot" style coffee maker worked, as did the mini-fridge. Our steward emptied the mini-fridge before our arrival. A 15 foot extension cord was needed to use a CPAP next to the bed, since the only outlets in the bedroom area are at the desk. There were only 2 of us in the cabin and we had ample room. I wouldn't try for 4 in this one.
