"Refundable Credit Balances" at end of cruise

DH and I got off the Crown Princess last month. Today I was going through various bills and statements and found the "Stateroom Account" which Princess leaves in your mailbox on the night before you disembark. I recalled that we gave the bottom line a quick glance on our way to breakfast that final morning. The refundable credit balance of $14.44 was correct (DH had checked on our account the night before). Today however, wondering when we might receive that credit, I looked on the second page of the statement, which had only a note.... which said:

"Please visit the Passenger Services Desk to collect any refundable credit balance under $25.00 prior to disembarking. Any larger credit balance will be forwarded to you by mail within 4-6 weeks."

Maybe DH and I have not had refunds due us at the end of other Princess cruises (at least, I hope we haven't!). Are we the only ones who were not aware that we had to visit the PSD to collect up our refund - during the "rush hour traffic" of disembarkation? One wonders how much Princess makes due to passengers who are unaware that they must show up in person to receive what is rightfully theirs.

We had a refund for our Sept cruise. Our refund falls under the check payment and received the mailed check around 7 or 8 days after. Check was issued by another company name, not Princess Cruise Line.

Most passengers with large amounts of refundable OBC know to keep checking their stateroom folio during their cruise to make sure they spend it all. If this is the first time for you just chalk it up to lessons learned. The topic of leftover OBC is discussed almost daily on here.

I hope you get your credit. I was on your cruise and also had a refundable credit. First time for me that we ever had any left. Ours was over that amount, and we just got our check last week. I asked at the front desk earlier in the cruise to see if we had to spend it, etc...

Surprised it took you a month to review your on board account. Most passengers review during and right at the end of the voyage. Anyhow, even though you did not collect from Passenger Services you may still get a check in the mail. Watch your mail carefully. The check comes in a plain envelope that looks like it may be junk mail. I would call Princess to see what they have to say.

You will not receive a credit on your credit card account.

We also had a small amount, maybe $25. We went to front desk and asked about it the day before the last day, so if we needed to use it, we would, they said they would mail a check. About a month after the cruise, no check, so I sent an email. We got a call about 3 weeks later, he said the check was in the mail. It's been a week already, no check.

So, 2 months later...........still waiting. I do wonder what happens when people don't follow up like I have. We'll see if we get it. He did say, as stated above, that the check is issued by another company and in a plain envelope. So, we wait!

Son was unable to get off ship at debarkation because he was owed $12. I've gotten checks from Bottomline after about six weeks for $6.00. They really will try to get a refund back to you but it can take a while. The paperwork from Bottomline makes it clear the refund is from Princess but the thing really looks like one of those fake check scams if you don't look closely.

Call Princess and follow up.

It takes awhile. I recommend you call every week to week and a half until you get the cheque.

We were owed a bunch ( I had bought refundable obc at a good exchange rate to pay for excursions for 4 pple and we didnt take the excursions ...) It ended up taking a few months in total and Princess and Bottomline both blamed computer issues, but they always could "see" that we were owed and promised "soon".

They never denied we were owed, they just couldn't seem to manage initiating the cheque process. No idea why. We did eventually get the cheque.

We check our statement virtually every day while on board and print out a copy during the last day. If there is credit balance, we hit the casino if the balance can be used there and apply it to the slot machine, then cash out and take the slip to the cashier for the cash. I must add, this doesn't happen very often....well, maybe once because we usually don't have any money owed us.

ALL OBC can be used in the casino. It's just a simple "+ or -" accounting system. No distinction is made.

Which on board credits are refundable???

For the most part...only Veteran's OBC is refundable. Some types of OBC from Princess is refundable (gift credit for a screw-up, etc).

  • 1 month later...

Question???

I have bought OBC with Norwegian Credit card points. also thinking of buying OBC with cash from other cards.

I have paid for my excursion and spa pass pre trip. I doubt I will spend all my OBC during the trip.

is OBC bought with points refundable or non refundable?

if you buy OBC with a cash from a credit card, is this refundable or non refundable?

In my experience, OBC that is "purchased" of given to us as a correction of something is refundable. OBC that is awarded thru something like a shareholder's credit, future cruise certificate, etc. is non-refundable. Princess, like most other lines, will "spend" the non-refundable off your account first.

Which on board credits are refundable???

We have a large OBC balance from the Island Princess in December.... it was a combination of refund from canceled shore excursion, hotel bill Princess paid for 1 day delay in sailing, and $ Princess gave for other expenses due to the delay.

With the new system where you can check your balance daily on your phone they break it down into refundable and non-refundable balance.

Promo OBC usually specifies non-refundable and also FCC, loyalty and share holder OBC is not refundable.
