Having agreed a booking on a 7 night family cruise to Gurnsey Spain,France sailing from Southampton on Sunday 15th bang on the KO time of a word cup final which .. whisper it .. could see England overturn 50 years of hurt , you might understand my anxiety levels rising with each successful stage. Id imagined we'd be out long before the final. A call to P and O and FB message to Sports 24 who appear to provide Travel Sports Services to some ships and planes , assures me we won't be missing out on the game for those eager to watch it . Before the ship sails at 6.00pm I understand they will pick up UK TV , to show in Brodie's Bar with big screen . My worst nightmare.. Extra Time and Penalties when we are leaving the Solent and any TV / Radio signal .. as Sports 24 don't have the game listed on their schedule !! Id welcome any sympathetic advice on this and look forward to joining anyone who hopes to start a holiday with a momentous sporting miracle. Its Coming Home.. !!

right will you not be-a- boarding, or -b- at muster when they are playing. You maybe will be able to catch the end of it..but you will have to attend the muster as they scan your cards now. thinking about it muster would probably be at the end of the 90mins..if it goes to extra time,,you wouldn't know about it...does that make you feel any better..

Yes that had crossed my mind , thanks , Im banking on the draw of national / international sporting fever amongst 5,000 passengers and staff .... many of who will also want to watch it. I'll have a plan B and C. Imagine being asked 'Grandad did you see England Win the world cup in 1966 and recounting no but I did attend a really good safety presentation you might want to hear about. ' !!

All the matches so far have been shown on P&O, on big screens in the pub, one of the bars and on in cabin TVs, so it will be available. As to whether P&O will delay muster in the case of ET and penalties, who knows,; but I can imagine there would be lots of complaints and no shows if they don't.

Hi....what a dilemma....on the possible chance that England do make it to the final and it is taken to ET & penalties and muster is called at the most strategic point then would it be possible to connect to the ship's Wifi on your smart phone to see the Grand Finale....I am not a techo person so not sure if that is feasible or not but just a thought.

On Celebrity Silhouette yesterday they moved the muster from 4pm to 2pm to avoid the football. I am sure P&O will have something planned!

Richnsoul I’m fully feeling your anxiety here and seeing this post was greatly received . Of course nobody can get ahead of themselves until Wednesday night but if it’s our time we’ll also be having a quiet word with our coach driver to possibly avoid a couple of toilet stops on our journey from Darlington to Southampton that morning. My biggest fear in all this is the muster drill but surely that can’t happen until all passengers have boarded? I hope I’m not the only one making a call to P&O on Thursday morning - the more the merrier. Surely with it being a British ship we have a better chance of them making room for it than if we were boarding a Costa/MSC (Italian) company vessel for example. as I said to my husband and to quote Harper Lee: it’s not time to worry yet..... it’s going to be a long week!

I have just come off Britannia. England games were shown in Brodies, Live Lounge, The Studio and the Crystal Room. You had to get there at least half an hour - an hour early to get a seat in any venue. Snacks were served at half time and easy to order drinks in those venues too. Some People felt they should have used the Theatre, but of course you can not order drinks so easily there. Not shown in the cabins at all.

I have no idea if the muster time will be changed.

The check in and security staff will probably be keen to get away to see the game as well so you may find that P&O try to move everything up by 30 minutes to get people onboard quickly.

The muster may be an issue as they can’t leave without doing it. They could however potentially time it for half time? Suggest to them that the put the commentary on the public area speaker and just switch it off during the actual drill, rather than the 15 minute hanging about time.

I’m not a football fan myself so it would not bother me however I am sure with a big event like this P&O will try their very best to accommodate the many people who are. Good luck to your team and enjoy the cruise.

Thanks to you all for the sympathy , support and news from elsewhere. Clair...we are a family of 6 (2 elderly ) on Cruise bus down from Bradford .. , I'll be armed with back up phone, portable battery, and transistor radio, in event of bus delays , P and O on board obstacles . For better or worse I signed up my hopes of England World Cup success way back watching Mexico 1970 and recommitted with each subsequent heart ache , let down and penalty shoot out agony. Hence my anxiety levels , Im resigned to missing street parties, endless analysis , decorating the house, silly celebration dances .. (well maybe not.!:-) ) Im thinking of making the Semi our 'Final' its way further than we might have hoped for . Anyone tempted to suggest ..its only a game might be missing the 'cheer factor' it seems to have brought people from all areas ,backgrounds , ages . Also Im in no way assuming Croatia won't be tough opposition Weds. Rich

If I were you I would be hoping that P&O come up with a plan so that everyone can see the final. I think they will make every effort to show the whole match if they can..

Not widely know but I believe they do run a second muster for those who miss the first one, but you cannot rely on that as they will probably not broadcast the match while muster in on. I think that the internet will be your friend in this, just pay for 1 day wifi and then steam it to your phone/tablet which you can take into muster and keep the volume very low or use 1 side of you headphones if you have in ear type. Good luck with it.

It’s made my day that you’re on a bus too!!! Definitely shared anxiety here. Who knows we may even be on the same bus?? If we get to final I’ll be sticking a flag to the bus window. We will have the same backup plans. I wonder what the people in the roll-call think to this. I’m also of the same mentality with regard to Wednesday and treating this as the crunch match - I soaked up so much from yesterday’s parties in our town centre and recorded it all knowing I wouldn’t be around for the final. Hear’s to Wednesday and I’m sure this thread might pick up some activity if it’s a favourable result!

If you're stuck in the cabin during the game (as we were with a child) then you can follow Sky Sports News who will at least keep you up to date with the score.

I can’t see the muster being a couple of hours early. We were surprised at how many passengers were still boarding after 3pm when we were on Arcadia last week.

Doubtless the match will be shown, but be prepared for a deafening announcement by the Entertainments Manager at a critical time in the match, where you will be told all about the sailaway and evening entertainment options. P&O now assume that all passengers are deaf and also unable to read their Horizon daily entertainment schedule

Just off Britannia watched the Panama, Belgium, Colombia and Sweden game in Brodies, great atmosphere, packed out. Got there last minute for the Sweden game as we were sunning ourselves on the deck and there were no seats available so we liberated a couple of chairs from the empty Casino next door and plonked ourselves down near one of the dozen TVs.

Due to the games being screened via satellite there are a lot of screen freezes so its a bit like A Question of Sports What happened next as the commentary continues when the picture freezes. Very frustrating during penalty shoot outs.:D

Staying on the football theme everyone around us was surprised at the Great British sailaway in Skagan that the entertainment crew didn't play Footballs Coming Home although there was an impromptu rendition at the end from the crowd. They played some football songs (Here we go for Everton fans and You'll never walk alone for Liverpool fans) nothing for the National team. Shameful show from Neil Oliver the Cruise Director.

Hi there! Yes, P&O will be showing the World Cup. We don't have much other info from them, but here's a rundown of what you can expect from the major cruise lines: https://www.cruisecritic.co.uk/articles.cfm?ID=3352.

Just to throw a spanner in the works, they are the ENLAND team, not the National team. There are three other countries making up UK. That maybe why the entertainment team did what they did.

I genuinely wish the England team well, as we need a boost in this country at present, but P&O sailaway parties are tacky enough, without the addition of football songs. Just saying!

They are the National team if you are English. Last time I looked there wasn't a UK team.

Yes, and each of them have their own National team. I am English and my National team is England, not the UK.

Well last nights result put an end to any anxieties about missing England in any final on Sunday , and Ive mixed feelings about my commitment to seeing France -Croatia , dependent on our boarding plans. Lets hope England can clinch the often ignored 3rd place by beating Belguim on Sat afternoon. Im gutted , not totally surprised but proud of the team and Gareth. Time to focus on packing .. Happy Crusing . R
