Rental car in Belfast

Recommended Posts

We will be docking in Belfast on July 5th (Princess cruise line). We would like to rent a car and do Giants Causeway on our own. Does anyone have info on the closest rental car agency to the port? Any suggestions for other sights not to miss? We are docked 8 AM - 9 PM

Hey, depends on where you dock. Most are docking at Stormont Wharf at the minute so you have EuropCar by the Stena Terminal. To be honest, any in Central Belfast will be easy as a taxi is only about £4-5.

Head straight to the Giants Causeway to beat the traffic and business. You could then come back via the Dark Hedges. It will take about 80 minutes to get to the Giants Causeway.

Once you do the Giants Causeway you could come back via Ballintoy, Dunseverik and along the coast which will take you about 2 hours but is worth it as it is beautiful. Watch out for Dunluce Castle, which has a famous tale and is on many of the postcards.

The other thing you could do is head to Benone Beach (Near Downhill / Castlerock) which has Mussenden Temple overlooking it - this is stunning too!

If you are back up in Belfast for about 3-4pm you could still fit in the Titanic Experience or Crumlin Road Goal if you wanted to do the 'touristy thing'.

Enjoy our beautiful country!

Not sure if closest, but on our upcoming July stop there (doing same thing as you list) we have car reserved from Sixt. Looks fairly close to port.

It's about a 10 minute taxi ride. Assuming you go into Stormont Wharf (where they have all been so far this year) then it's the other side of the Lough. Will only be about £6-7 in a taxi.

Second that...thanks for all the info.

Our dilemma is that we dock from 11:30am to 9:30pm (on Monday July 24, 2017).

So we might need to do tour backwards. I see the GC is open until dusk (which is 10:26pm the day we are there)...I'm guessing the crowds are gone by later in the day??

Really looking forward to our trip...so many things to research!

Do you know how far this is from the port? Can you walk or is it a cab ride? Thanks

It's a long walk--over two miles. Deceptive when looking at a map. I'd just opt for a cab or an Uber. We used Uber several times in Belfast and they were prompt and very reasonable. Unlike in the US, you can set a pick up time for Uber in Belfast--we did this for getting to Crumlin Road Gaol from our flat and the driver was about two minutes early.
