Disappointed

I seem to recall in our early days of cruising with Carnival they had at least 2 behind the desk. But that was a long time ago and my memory could be fuzzy.

I still think they will be pretty much phased out or possibly merged with another department like Shore Excursions. There just simply isn't any incentive to book onboard anymore since you can get the exact same offers weeks later at home. For those that don't want to book online, they can simply call the 800 number or their PVP or TA. Only time will tell. We shall see.

I remember reading about it. Either in an article or on this forum from someone who was told by Carnival staff. They said the future cruise desk would be closed and the service would be moved to the excursions desk. I suspect that as time goes by and more people realize they can book the same cruise when they get back home as they could on board, they'll simply wait. Once that happens, the lines on board will begin to shrink. Judging by the pictures of the small space they allotted for the desk on Vista, it looks like Carnival expects it to go this way. Not to say it'll go away completely on board, but they feel less of a need to dedicate a lot of resources towards it.

On the Conquest last year, I only saw the desk open two or three times on a 5-day cruise. And when it was open (manned by one person) I only ever saw a couple people there at a time.

There are a lot of older people who want the face to face..

And holding up the line because they can't stop chatting with cruise consultant about their prior cruise stories and other things in life. I am thankful that under the new post cruise Cruise Next program, I can now book a future cruise at the comfort of my home without the long line up and at a convenient time of my choosing.

It's all corporate with Carnival. Put money in the shareholders pockets. They're cutting staff( no more future cruise specialists), cutting wait staff and room stewards and offering fewer discounts. Also cutting out the pensions of those hard working staffs.

In this regard, no better or worse than any other cruise line.

If you are going to cruise anyway and choose Carnival to do it on, then why complain about it??? It is what it is and maybe you should look around to other cruise lines to see if they have a "deal".

When we are ready to book, we book....it is simple really....if there is an offer out there then great, if not I still book cuz that is the plan at that time....

My past guest offers, or VIFP offers, are exactly the same.

There are 2 offers.

1 is free 2 category upgrade Which isn't an upgrade to me at all. I like a lower deck.

Or choose your cabin. Carnival says, "check back often for changes" well...

these offers haven't changed in months.

With my 22nd Carnival cruise coming up in Sept, you'd think they would offer a little more, or at least a chance for something else.

Guess I'm just not a VIFP after all.

I have 88 Carnival cruises and have not received any special offers in years, probably since the Diamond program started. There have been a couple offers available to all Diamond members but nothing based on my loyalty. I believe a previous post is correct, if you have a cruise booked you get offered nothing, I will probably test that theory in a few months.

I do know my D+ perks on RCCL are vastly superior to Carnival's Diamond bonuses.

I usually book through a cruise travel agent... have used one I found through Cruise Critic and had great experience. This next cruise I booked directly with Carnival because the price was right and so was the itinerary and cabin.

My advice is to shop around and don't think you have to book through Carnival to get the best deal... but if the deal looks good to you, go for it.

I just booked a 7-day for February 2018 yesterday, and in addition to the 'half deposit' and 'two category upgrade', which I don't really care about, I got $50 OBC. And it's trip we wanted with the only date we could all do, so I'm not complaining. The only thing I don't like about their process is, in order to get the best booking price you have to agree to a non-refundable deposit. Granted on this trip it was only $20 pp difference and no OBC to do a refundable deposit, but still.
