Cabin Review by RetiredNTraveling!

Ship: Caribbean Princess

Class: Caribbean-Class

Deck: Riviera 14

Stateroom # R415 San Juan Suite

Category: Penthouse Suite

Port/Starboard/Bow/Stern: Starboard Mid-ship

Connects With Cabin #

Accessible: No!

Quiet: Mostly quiet. Very little noise from the elevators being so close. People were considerate! However it’s right under the Lido and the Scoops and at night there is some noise above from MUTS. But the main noise is from the crew rearranging chairs in the morning around 6:00am.

Balcony Size: Very similar to the balcony on the Golden Princess. Nice but a little narrow!

View: Fantastic, high up enough to have a great view at all harbors.

Privacy Issues: None!

Wind: Some wind but nothing that would spoil a cruise aboard a Princess Cruise Ship!

Soot: None!

Problems: There were no problems or issues that reared their ugly heads. It was a great cabin and a great cruise!

Comments: This was another fantastic suite and like before, we would recommend it.

Photos: None, but then it was just the same as the Golden Princess Suite S703! Please refer to post #46.

Ship Carribean Princess

Class Grand

Deck Emerald

Stateroom # E731 (4 berth)

Category Mini Suite

Port/Starboard/Bow/Stern Starboard

Connects With Cabin # not connecting

Accessible not accessible but did successfully store and charged my powered wheelchair in hall area of the cabin using electrical socket near the cabin door. However width of cabin door insufficient to allow access for unfolded chair.

Quiet Generally quiet except for noise of thrusters used when entering or leaving port. Please note no sound heard from Club Fusion.

Balcony Size Covered extended width balcony. Approximately double normal width of mini suite balcony allowing aft and forward views. Furnished with two adjustable deck chairs, two footstools and a table. Request for extra chairs refused.

View Excellent aft, forward and below.

Privacy Issues no problems but stewards tended to gather in cabin when we were absent.

Wind No problem

Soot No problem

Problems Please note that although this is described as a four bed cabin the fourth bed which is a sofa bed is not suitable to sleep on. The bed does not have a flat base or an acceptable mattress.

Comments

a great cabin in a quiet location. Near laundrette and emergency exit. However atrocious fourth bed will preclude us from booking it again. Edited by berlingo

Deck Baja

Stateroom # B737

Category Deluxe Premium Aft Balcony

Port/Starboard/Bow/Stern Stern toward starboard side

Connects With Cabin # no direct connection

Accessible No

Quiet Very Quiet, of course the balcony has the sound of the wake

Balcony Size Large compared to the general balcony cabins, a small covered area by the balcony door

View Aft wake, no obstructions

Privacy Issues When out to the rail, others can view your balcony, not a problem

Wind None/Not an issue

Soot No problems on our Dec. 2014 Caribbean itinerary, but occasional light amounts on sea mornings. Our fabulous cabin steward always took care of everything daily.

Problems The carpet by the balcony door had dark stains- probably from soot.

Comments Beautiful, quiet location with a larger than average partially covered balcony. Interestingly when you need to take the aft stairs or elevator, you then must cross the length of the ship at the Promenade deck to access the rest of the ship. It might be quite a walk for some who have difficulties.

Ok, not usually so dense, but am I missing something?

I am trying to find info on a particular ship...ex. Island Princess....is there a way to access just the cabins on the Island?

This is an excellent question.

The answer is on the "Managing Data" tab in the spreadsheet.

Actually the data on "Managing Data" tab needed some revision so I hopefully have made the necessary changes.

If you want to contact me directly my e-mail address is at the bottom of that page and I will be glad to try to help.

Wonderful cabin. Quiet and easy accessibility. Laundry room 2 doors down and across hall, never noisy. Some minor rust on upper balcony fixtures such as light but noticeable only if you go looking. Well behaved shower curtain that never caused a problem. Would definitely book again.

The cabin was in a great location and we were very happy with it. It was close to elevators and the laundrette.

There was a steward storage area next to it. We did notice some noise from the steward's cart being brought out of the storage area, usually around 7:30-8am and again in the early evenings, but it didn't bother us. In fact the morning cart movement proved to be a very good alarm clock - got us up in time for breakfast in the MDR, although I did sleep through it a couple of times. We did have to put up with a vacuum cleaner parked outside our door most days but, again, this wasn't an issue.

A queen bed configuration really doesn't work in these cabins unless one person is prepared to climb over one corner of the bed everytime and you are happy with no bedside tables. In twin configuration the chest of drawers becomes a bedside table between the beds and you have much more space.

The bathroom was also configured differently to the one in the balcony cabin we had on Sun - handbasin in the middle, shower and toilet to either side in the inside cabin whereas the balcony cabin had the toilet in the middle with shower and handbasin to either side. The inside configuration made the bathroom seem more roomier. It may actually have been slightly larger in fact.

The cabin had plenty of storage space and the Australian power point was easy to access, with room to put the travel power board and anything on charge at the time, without things falling on the floor. This space, centered between the entrance and the bathroom, also held the glasses tray, the fridge was underneath, above there was a cupboard containing the safe, and the TV was right at the top.

The only downside for me was that there was a lot of light seepage around the door so the cabin wasn't as dark as I'd have liked. On our RCI cruise the inside cabin was so dark I could sleep without using a sleep mask.

Ship – Royal Princess

Stateroom – L107 (ME?)

Deck – Lido

Port/Starboard/Bow/Stern – Bow. Bow Starboard Corner Premium Minisuite.

Connects With Cabin # – “na”

Accessible – No.

Quiet – Yes. The Sanctuary is above, but we did not hear any noise from that. Disclaimer: I wear earplugs to sleep, but my friend does not.

Balcony Size – Oversized. Huge, huge wrap around balcony. The balcony access is on the side of the ship, then the balcony wraps around to the front. There was a full sized table with four chairs, two chaise loungers and two side tables next to the loungers. All furniture was wood with cloth cushions.

View – Partially obstructed, balcony railing is metal, but there are no other view obstructions.

Privacy Issues – The side part of the balcony was completely covered; there was a small overhang, but the majority of the forward-facing balcony was not covered. The sanctuary is directly above and when standing at the railing the people at the railing in the sanctuary would be able to see you.

Wind - Yes. Extremely windy. We were able to use the balcony while underway and when seated or in the loungers, the wind was not felt. Extreme wind when opening the balcony door.

Soot - No.

Problems – No specific problems.

Comments – This is an exceptionally large cabin with great storage. The beds were configurable into twins. It is configured into an L-shape with the sleeping area separated from the living area. There is a curtain that can be drawn for privacy and light control in the sleeping area. In the sleeping area there is a forward-facing window.

The railing in this cabin was metal, so view would be obstructed while seated and/or lounging.

At the end of the hallway is a crew door and they didn't take a lot of care to close it quietly. Didn't really bother us a lot but it could be an issue if you're sensitive to that sort of thing.

Overall an excellent cabin - standard cabin layout but with the lovely large balcony (about 12 feet by 9 feet).

Comments:

I very much like the Plaza Deck staterooms behind the Art Gallery. This stateroom was very quiet. None of "those" noises described in previous threads. I was rather disappointed that there was a passageway from the International Cafe past our rooms. In other Grand Class ships, this is a dead end hall. The doors were closed between midnight and 6 AM ish. There was a little bit of noise from the Piazza Entertainment, but nothing horrible.

Best reasons to book these cabins (I had a small group traveling together in P318, P322, P326, and P338) is the proximity to the IC, Coffee/Bar, and Piazza. Easy to get around Decks 5, 6, and 7. We had early traditional dining in DaVinci deck 6. No one really got lost.

Central elevators still a problem. Most often used the forward elevators. A few extra steps, but much less aggregation.

Problems

Several little things need attention. The drawers stick more so than usual. There is an annoying little hum from the TV when it's off. I think it was a vibration issue. The bath sink stopper did not work. The beds were the older variety, not the pillow tops.

Comments

The usual uncomfortable balcony furniture, two chairs, footstools and the tall table.

This was a free upgrade from a cabin on Aloha.

Exactly mid ship. No passenger stairs. 6 elevators, smaller than on some ships. Many elevators coming down full or going up at capacity, allow an extra 5-10 minutes, not as much wait on off times. We hardly felt motion at all.

Cabin about 3 feet wider than standard balcony, no threshold at main entry and bathroom, metal ramp out to balcony if needed.

Showing width of AC balcony cabin with very large desk area, mini frig and extra storage. Besides desk chair and small table, (far right), there is a smallish upholstered club chair, double closet and room safe.

523a8a72-fec1-4b6a-aef6-94574c86fa89_zpssau9yjhz.jpg

ADA compliant bathroom, no threshold doorway 34-36" wide, elevated toilet with grab bars to each side, roll-up sink, trade off of less cubbies, door hooks at two heights, climate controls and rocker panel light switches accessible from WC as well as standing.

d4e5472e-fbd2-4872-987a-1d195c3ff2ae_zpsozi9sucl.jpg

No threshold shower with pull down bench, sturdy to 300+ lbs. Hand held or stationary shower head, usual shampoo and body wash. We used the shower curtain and even with floor drains outlining the 'shower' area, still needed a towel or two to sop up the excess; not judged a hardship.

3ea5633a-f5ad-42d9-9922-64dac83edeec_zpsw1vrnyiw.jpg

Two cot-sized 'twins' (30" x 72") separated by large and useful night stands, each with 4 large drawers, really helped with storage. Plus storage nook, and table top large enough to accommodate his and her CPAP machines!

It was only after going back to the first page that I began to understand the point of this thread.

Think you need to keep posting the info on the spread sheet. It will be of use once you have more and more completed cabin reviews.

Need to be able to search easily for the type of cabin you want to compare.

ie I needed information on mini suites on Royal/Regal ships but it took me a long time to sort out the way to use the thread and open the spread sheet page on Princess.
