Alcohol Allowance

Hi, we are looking into a late cruise deal on the Azura from barbados, flying from gatwick. We want to know how much if any wine or spirits we could take onboard, and whats the best way to get it on there.

Thanks

You are allowed to take as much wine and spirits as you want onboard to drink in your cabin but unless you get some at Gatwick you may not have chance to buy before embarkation. Probably best to pick some up when you arrive at your first port, unless you are overnight in Barbados.

P&O say " We allow a reasonable amount " which is ??
No one has ever posted on here on any other social media sites about having any alcohol confiscated. Realistically, on a fly cruise, the amount you can take will be limited by your luggage allowance. For cruises departing from Southampton, there appears to be no attempt to monitor and control the amount of alcohol individuals take on board. We would plan to only take enough on board for a glass of wine each as we get ready for dinner, and the total amount would vary depending on the length of the cruise. Part of the cruise experience for us is socialising on board, not getting legless in our cabin!

The danger is that if too many cruisers abuse the system by drinking their own alcohol in bars rather than in their own cabins, P&O may rethink their policy.

I agree with your post Wowzz and that is why I put the link for those who don't know, as you rightly say there is a risk of spoiling a good thing and P&O then withdrawing the privilege that most other cruise companies deny their passengers.

I'm not saying what is reasonable but P&O are saying be reasonable about your amount, which most people do and if they are not P&O say "We will generally allow a small, reasonable amount to be taken on-board for you to enjoy in your cabin" and they do go on to say -"We reserve the right to confiscate alcohol at the gangway, which may be destroyed. "

As UK338 said Spirits are so cheap on room service ..so apart from a duty free if we are using an airport, we also use the room service option .

I think most of us are pleased that P&O do not put an actual amount limit on what we take onboard but trust us to be reasonable about it and long may it stay that way for us all to enjoy.

Spirits are so cheap on room service it's not worth the hassle of carrying on.

Is it possible to pre-order a bottle of spirits for your stateroom to drink there.through cruise personaliser.?...I did it on Princess, but only half bottles. Thanks

....I didnt know that, wish I did before the Oriana in June.....I thought if you bought them they would keep them until you disembarked

Theses are not duty free prices that you get in the shop. This menu card would have been in your cabin.

emails are going out - exactly as I said was going to happen and people didn't believe me.

Hardly surprising given the way some passengers pushed it to the limit.

Only some people did not believe you Sharon.

Yes it's a shame that those who pushed the limit have spoiled it for everyone else.

I wonder if it's a prelude to offering a drinks package on board?

I hope that if they do introduce a drinks package that it is not an included in the price one. When we went on Celebrity my only criticism was that I felt that the price was high due to there being a "free" drinks package. People who do not drink or only drink moderately are in fact subsidising the heavy drinkers. We usually have a glass of wine with dinner and another alcoholic drink of some sort after the show so there us no way that a drinks package makes financial sense for people like us. If people want a drinks package that is their desicon but they should not be subsidised by non drinkers.
