Possible Crew Member Overboard Vision of the Seas 12/4

Recommended Posts

We just recently got off the vision of the seas. Yesterday we had really rough seas with 15 foot swells and 60 mph winds. The decks were closed but apparently at 5:00 AM a crew member who had reported to his shift did not make it back off of his shift. They searched all day until 7:00 PM that night when they made an announcement to the ship that the crew member was missing And that he had possibly been swept overboard. All they know is that he showed up to his shift at 5 AM and wasn’t heard from after that. His shift took place on the pool deck. Prayers for his family.

"Swept overboard" with 15 foot seas? Also, the actual pool deck on Vision, is enclosed. I've been trying to find out any info other than from a couple of posters on FB and here and come up with nothing when doing a search. Usually, this would make at the very least, the "lawyer" ambulance chaser's website.

So most of that info is true however the seas did not get rough until around 10:00am Friday morning and he was last seen on deck 5 around 5:20am. Deck 5 has a pool that is enclosed however it’s also the muster station deck which has railings . They didn’t close the open decks until around 8:00-9:00am. The main pool deck is deck 9 and and has railings but is not totally enclosed. I highly doubt he got swept overboard... the sea and wind at that time was not bad at all

Deck 5 is not the pool deck and there is no pool on it. It's the deck with the casino and guest services and one level of the dining room as well as the outdoor deck where the muster stations are. The pool deck is deck 9 which has the main pool, the solarium and windjammer.

They never found the crew member. So either he's overboard or hiding. My room attendant is good friends with him and he didn't know many details either. I wonder if the next cruise was delayed. I would assume there would have to be some kind of investigation.

Captain said there would be an investigation .. I’m sure that’s standard procedure....they checked every inch of that ship for hours, going in every room, looking under beds.. everything...

I didn't go to his 7:30 briefing. I was still in my cabin trying not to toss my cookies lol. Hopefully we will find out what happened.

Lol I hear ya there, I stayed in mine for quite some time myself. My thoughts on the matter, not facts, but I don’t believe he was swept off deck by rough seas and high winds, and I think the crew would have found him if he was on the ship. I think by the time they first paged for him to report on the speakers which was earlier in the morning, they had already been looking for him for a while.

Did the ship stop and search? That's the normal thing to do if they think someone went overboard while they wait for the coast guard and other ships to help. There is still nothing on any of the sites that report crew incidents, or any news sites. That's not normal. When I google , I get multiple hits on other crew that have gone missing, but nothing on Vision in the last few days (except of course for the two threads here on CC).

People onboard were posting on facebook about the search. Ships stop and search when they have a reasonable estimate of time someone went overboard. That way they can see their position at that time and return to that. Apparently the ship encountered very disruptive wind and waves and so performing a search may not have been possible at the time.

Current events of crew missing I have never seen in any mainstream news, maybe a blurb after the fact. Searching news for the info and coming up with nothing does not mean there is nothing.

I saw the posts on FB. There was a crewmember lost in the Gulf of Mexico off of Liberty of the Seas back in April. It shows up in a google search and was reported on a couple of sites within a day or two. The one that surprises me is the cruise industry's "favorite" lawyer Jim Walker who reports the second he hears something. So far, nada on his site.

I wonder if those currently onboard will hear anything from the crew. The Captain is not likely to address it again onboard.

Unfortunately this story doesn't have a happy ending.

There is a memorial coming up for this crew member.

There is footage of him jumping overboard. I have a very good friend who works on this ship. They had been searching for him for many hours before the announcement was made

It's a very stressful time of year to be working on ships.

Very tragic.
