For a fun holiday piece, Cruise Critic is putting together a "naughty or nice?" slideshow featuring member stories about instances when they saw cruisers behaving badly onboard and when they saw cruisers (or crew!) go out of their way to be nice during their time at sea. If you have any stories to share, please post them here -- we'd love to read them.

A woman was sitting right in the middle of a staircase with art supplies scattered out all around her. She was making a copy of the artwork on the wall. A group of Asian people carefully walked around her but they were laughing and speaking in their language.

The artist's response? "Damn foreigners."

Crew staff member: Nice. My husband walks very slowly because of hip problems and uses a cane. This past October on the Star in Aqua Dining room we were seated in the section furthest from the entry door. When we were finished with our meal the maitre d' came over and told us to follow him. He opened a nearby door marked Authorized Only and let us out that way since it went directly into the main hallway, saving my husband the long walk back through the dining room to the usual exit.

He did that for us another time as well when we were seated in that area. We really appreciated his thoughtfulness.

NAUGHTY: At the Captains Circle party on Grand Princess I had just gotten my elderly mother seated when a nearby waiter approached with his tray of drinks. As he entered our row a gentleman (sic) sitting in the row behind us leapt up, squeezed between the tables, wedged himself between the waiter and my mom and proceeded to relieve the waiter of everything on his tray except for one glass of red wine, which of course my mom doesn't drink. After his sits back down I turn around to give him the stink eye (but believe me, if I wasn't travelling with my mom this time I would probably have done something that would have gotten me kicked off the ship) and he and his wife already have half a dozen empties on the table in front of them!

NICE: I could cite so many things that the hard working cabin stewards have done for me and my family--and always with a smile, no matter how busy they are--but it is this very simple act that stands out: the steward on Queen Victoria who disabled the auto-close mechanism on our cabin door (which I think is technically against the rules) to make it easier for my mom to open. Always remember that it is from the small things that the great things one day come :)

NICE: On Princess many of the crew are Filipino, and I asked our steward to write a few phrases in Tagalog for me like please and thank you. He filled a whole sheet of paper with common phrases. I am taking it on my next Princess cruise.

Nice: on my last cruise I was wearing my basketball shirt on a sea-day. I really like to throw some shots at HAL's basketball court at night. But that night, the crew was playing some ball (it was pretty late tbh). One of the guys who served me a drink that night, came down and asked if I wanted to join them in a game :-)

We spent quite some time after the little game chatting. Very nice experience.

Naughty: Passengers (not always kids & teens) changing the signs on the cabin door from "Do Not Disturb" to "Clean Now" and changing the breakfast order to be prune juice at 5 AM.

Naughty & Nice: An older couple (one with a talker, the other with a cane) almost knocked over by others changing in front of them to get on an elevator and having a difficult time. :(

Several pax make sure they got on the next elevator and two young men went with them to make sure they got safely to their cabin. :)

NAUGHTY Over the summer we were on a cruise with the worst-behaved teens I have ever seen. They would take food from the buffet and drop it down on people several floor below in the atrium. I can't imagine if they would have hit someone in the head with an apple from several stories above. Late at night, we were about to enter an elevator - the entire floor was smeared with pizza and ice cream - what a mess!

I felt so bad for all the extra work they created for the cleaning staff. I asked one worker if he was mad. He said - they are instructed that they are never to reprimand the youth - dire issues are addressed by security, but this didn't qualify.

Naughty: Drunk college age man wandering into kids club and punching a male staff member in the face in front of small children.

Nice: Hearing from said staff member that he was not pressing charges but the passenger was forced to stay in his cabin and escorted off of the ship at the first stop which was Samana DR.

Nice: We started taking Latin dance classes last fall and my DH asked the DJ if he could download some songs that we danced to on the ship that we had never heard of before. He downloaded hundreds of songs for us that we are still dancing to. :)

In December 2012 took an RCCL cruise out of New Orleans. Went to dinner the first night an a lovely couple and their adult son were seated at my table. The Husband was a young man in a wheelchair. Didn't think anything of it nor did not ask any questions as I am also disabled.

After dinner I went down to Guest Services and saw this couple leaving the desk. The wife was in tears while the son was comforting her. Decided to go over and ask if I could be of any assistance. Well it turns out that they had been wait listed for an accessible cabin which never became available so a few weeks before the cruise they placed a request with RCCL's Special Needs department for a shower seat and another item which should have been provided free of charge but were never delivered to the cabin. Nor were there any more available on board. The wife said she didn't know how she was going to get her husband showered each day.

Without hesitating told her that I had an accessible cabin but was not able to switch cabins due to my disability. Instead offered that I get a duplicate key card and set up a daily time so that her husband could use the accessible shower. They couldn't believe that I would do that for complete strangers. Told her it was the right thing to do and that I had nothing of value to be worried about. Besides both were Police Officers for the state prison system in which they resided. The Husband was injured on duty. Coming from a family of police officers I had even more of special place in my heart for this family.

I made arrangements for them to meet my cabin steward and to have extra towels in the bathroom for them. Everything worked out smoothly and the family enjoyed their cruise. Some how several of RCCL's staff members found out what I had done and came to me to thank me saying that in all their years of working on cruise ships no one ever did such a thing to help another passenger. Not looking for praise or pat on the back because after all being disabled myself it was the right thing to do. My only request made to this couple was to pay the kindness forward which I'm certain they did.

Naughty - How about a woman who grabbed a head waiter's lapel pin and got in his face because she didn't get the table in the Anytime Dining room that she wanted.

Naughty - On the same cruise, some women who didn't like another woman, left anonymous hate mail in her cabin mail box during the last week. On the last night, they left a book with reasons why she was the most hated passenger.

The cruise was kind of the cruise from hell as far as passengers go. We're steering away from long cruises for a while because of that. The crew was wonderful and amazingly patient with all these nasty biddies on board.

four days into cruise, cabin staff / kitchen noticed a marked increase in similar changes, to breakfast orders and very early orders

They assumed "funny business" so they called two "victims" (my self and cabin down the hall ) to inquire if this was an error, (cabin fellow knew I was often on line in Explorer lounge (HAL) between 4am and 5am, (European clients) and visited me , with my breakfast order, not prune juice but close enough, they then and clarified, my 4:30 wake-up and breakfast

They cancelled the other 7 in the hall, but left a note and a small breakfast. for guests

Following day, supposedly security had video taped our hall, and found out the "comic", Staff did ot tell us who the comic was, but reportedly cabin staff learned and played their own humour on that cabin.

I found out as i speak some indonesian, and overheard the staff speaking about it.

they short sheeted the bed, and two other harmless pranks, I asked about repercussions, and they said, their bosses were in on it teaching them the technique.

Also cabin paxs giving an extra inspection when reboarding from excursion

Family group with table for 12 at "late" seating brought children dressed in their pajamas, under the age of 5, to dinner each night. The lovely children were allowed to run around the dining room getting in the way of servers carrying heavy trays while their parents did nothing to control their offspring. One of the kids screamed incessantly during dinner. When we complained to the head waiter, he went to their table, said something which produced glares to our group from the family. The head waiter must have been related to this family or tipped very heavily because soon he brought them champagne and stayed and chatted with them. The situation remained the same with the lovely children for the entire 12-night cruise.

Last cruise we were on (HAL) a woman was unjustified in her complaint to front desk staff. A very well spoken and patient asian staff member was trying to help as she went on a tirade about the cruise ship industry's practise of deducting tips. The young woman suggested she would simply take the tip off her bill but the passenger was having none of it saying it was offensive and this made her feel bad and it shouldn't have been there in the first place...blah blah blah you get the picture. She was looking for not just the tip refunded but also money back for offending her. When the young asian staff member tried to move her along explaining she couldn't do that the passenger said "I want to speak to someone English, not a foreigner".

REALLY NAUGHTY

We like the idea of paying it forward... we have been on the giving and receiving of paying it forward. My husband helped a black woman repair a tire and she wanted to pay him but he said just pass it forward. Not too long on a cold and rainy day I had a flat tire and a large black man stopped and used a portable lift to lift up my car and replaced the tire with my spare.. after asking to pay him he said just pass it foreward...

Take care...

I think I saw this piece (from the weekly newsletter?) and there was something that I had disagreed with. But when I tried to post a comment, I wasn't able to type anything. (I had this problem with another feature too on CC)

Maybe it was about taking food to other parts of the ship? If this was listed, then I would have to say there's absolutely nothing naughty about this, especially if it's from the buffet or a food venue that's not a main dining room.

Perhaps toss those up here. Some other of us could use at another time. It would be NICE of you.

Naughty: On my Carnival Pride cruise to Bermuda, there were a lot of rowdy teens/young adults. One day we exited our cabin to find a pile of human waste several feet away in the middle of the hallway! CLEANUP ON AISLE DOLPHIN DECK!

Naughty & nice: On one cruise one of the table couples were politically 180 degrees opposite the rest of us at the table. And they made it known how we were all morons.

Next night they had moved to another table. Two nights later our waiter leaned over and quietly told us their new table mates don't like them either and wanted them moved again.
