What is it like on New Years Eve on a ship? We'll be on the Royal. Dec 31 is our first day after sailing and we will be at Princess Cays that day with a sea day the next. What should we expect? Anything different than any other sailing?

We were on Royal last year 2016/2017 for New Year. It was amazing.

I remember British new year in one of clubs.

Many hours of dancing on Piazza (we were not present at countdown there, but there was balloons drop)

On Lido deck there were disco type dancing where fountains are. On Movies Under the Stars they showed countdown. They showed were each Princess ship celebrates New Year.

It was very festive. All ladies got tiaras and men New Year hats.

We were on Lido deck till 1 am or later dancing.

You will have fun. Ship was decorated beyond beautiful.

Thanks all. Do you think it will be formal night? Any special menu in MDR?

I don't remember lobsters, but menu was great and I think more special than on regular night, this is not to say that it is not great on regular nights. Princess food on Royal actually exceeded quality and variety of food from previous Princess cruises.

They did a champagne tower in the Piazza and gave out a glass of free champagne at midnight.

Photos with the captain with you pretending to pour champagne into the top glasses of the tower. I thought it was really cheezy but a lot of folks did the photo.

Formal night was New Years Eve on our New Years cruise. It’s so festive and fun, no better place IMO to celebrate New Years! We were on the Pacific, which was much tamer than the Royal and Regal but still special. I’m super eager for the Regal this New Years! Party on Lido!
