Ford Island Access with Military I.D.

Has anyone successfully driven onto Ford Island with a rental car? I've seen conflicting information on what is required by Hickam to get a pass. One of the articles said you have to provide vehicle info at least 4 days prior to picking up your pass; this would not be possible if you're arriving only 2 days prior to cruise, and renting a vehicle. We really want to visit the USS Utah Memorial.

I would check with the base, the Ford Island access varies. I was able to drive a car that had no base access decals, and without a military ID onto Ford Island once for a special event day at the Pacific Aviation Museum but that is not the norm. The access that day was still controlled by posting security at every intersection to keep you to channeled to the museum.
