Dublin Dart to Wiklow

We have been to Dublin before and this time would like to take the Dart or intercity train to Wiklow just to see the countryside. Has anyone done this?...Where do we start and is this even a good plan?...thank you

Dart works well, but ride would be at least a 1.5 hrs. You have to use Pearse Station, which is the easiest anyways. Bray is nice for walking the board walk. Don't really know how much countryside you really see on this rail route??? Once outside of Dublin it's mostly seaside.Fastest would be a taxi from port to Pearse Stat,then DART.

The Dart hugs the coast & would not get you into the Wicklow Mountains (nb spelling) and I don't think a regional train would either.

A number of companies offer either personal tours (van or van/walking) or seat-in-van day tours. We took an excellent seat-in-van day tour from Dublin many years ago (not on a cruise).

You'll need to check out your disembarkation/ back-on-board times, or arrange a private tour to suit.

To do the Wicklow's Mtns, you would need a very long port day (IMHO). But they are beautiful, not to mention how easy it is to get lost in them :(:(????

The DART is a local rail service in Dublin. Its southern terminus is the small, suburban town of Greystones in County Wicklow. The DART runs along the Irish sea coast through Dublin's south-eastern suburbs. There are some spectacular cliff views as the train goes around Bray Head on its way to Greystones. But you will not see any of the Wicklow countryside.

The journey time from the centre of Dublin to Greystones is roughly one hour, and there is a train approximately every half hour. Not all DART trains go to Greystones; the majority terminate in Bray. The three DART stations in the centre of Dublin are Connolly, Tara Street, and Pearse.

If you are in Dublin for just a day, you would not have time to take an ordinary train into the Wicklow countryside. If you are staying longer, and enjoy walking, then you could take a train to the village of Rathdrum in County Wicklow and from there go for a ramble in the lovely grounds of Avondale Forest Park.

If you just want to see the Wicklow Mountains and surrounding countryside and not actually spend the day walking and hiking the trails than I would suggest a tour. We took the Wild Wicklow Tour with Dennis and it was great. The DART goes along the coast and does not go near the Wicklow Mountains. However, it is a lovely ride and at Brays/Greystone you can walk the cliffs.
