Good morning

We had some severe storms in this area last night-hope they missed you folks due east of us and that they don't rile up the Atlantic on the way to Bermuda.

Susan, I'll go through a lot of hassle to get some good grilled ribs . Speaking of grilling, try doing a pinapple! Superb.

One of the restaurants we frequently go to is Logan's. For sides, I always get the grilled vegetable skewer and grilled mushroom skewer.

Carol, hope Kim is prospering and that Kevin's surgery was a non factor. He sure likes his bowling. I love bowling in two senior leagues, in large part simply because it's a great way to get out and make friends, but dread starting in August. I wish they started in October and finished in March. On a pretty day, I'd much rather be golfing.

The Memorial likely got a bunch of rain last night which hopefully softened the greens a little. Some of those holes are like clown golf. Nobody will say so out of respect for Jack, but you know something's wrong when the announcers discuss it a lot when interviewing him and he spends so much time defending or explaining the set up. It seems like he is starving for someone to praise the course. It truly is beautiful and the layout is for the most fantastic, but it is to the point that it is sometimes overdemanding. A great shot gets rewarded but a darned good one might be penalized. Anyway, it is especially fun to watch them play on a course I have seen several times. I didn't go this year due to cost of gas. Rooting for Strickler.

Carol, I know I always have an invite to stay with you folks, and would love to do that. If the tix had been much cheaper I at least would have considered it, but I also would have had to figure in the cost of gas (I estimate it costs me about $11 an hour for me to travel by car. So, we're talking $120 or more just in gas, plus food, plus the tix (would go for two days). Just too much. The only tourney I will go see this year is at Firestone. Great spectator course and only a little over two hours up the road. Love the joke!.

Lois, we will have a madhouse here for Thanksgiving. Our kid, wife, and their two kids stay with us, and there is a big family dinner (over 40) and Phyl's dad's house. Then, on Friday we go to the WVU/Pitt game, and then on to Baltimore for our cruise which sails on Saturday. Shame you can't be away for the end of the month as that might have been a good cruise for you even if it is on the Enchantment.

Hasta luego

Hi, good morning. Bob, I didn't realize you had such a big family and hope
you don't think badly of me for "inviting myself"....I totally forgot about
your game the day after and then your cruise is the next day.
I will either do something later this summer or wait till November.

Susan and Jonathon....have a wonderful cruise today

I hope Susan made it safely to the ship and is enjoying everything already. We didn't get any storms last night and it was a bit cloudy this morning, but the sun is out right now.

Kevin did well at his bowling group. He bowled a 128 and 127 and didn't feel any pain from the surgery. Plus, we picked a good day to return because the bowling alley always sponsors an appreciation day for the groups that they have on Saturdays and had a big cookout in the parking lot for everyone with hot dogs, hamburgers, fried chicken, salads, desserts and drinks all free. His group always orders pizza and drinks from the snack bar there every week, and they also have a number of other groups, so this is a nice way for them to give a little back.

We all were disappointed though because our oldest DD, Kimberly, was supposed to fly home Wed. to be here for her Dad's birthday, but she called that morning and said she still was too sick to fly from the bronchitis she came down with last week. So, she changed the ticket we got for her to fly in on Sat. so she could be here for our 45th Anniversary on Monday. But, again she called on Sat. morning and said she was still too sick to fly, and she sounds to me like she has pnemonia so I told her she really needs to go to the doctor. (she is a big health nut that believes in all the natural cures for things...typical CA yuppie dweller) So that was a real downer. Thank goodness we use Southwest because she was flying on one of my free tickets I get for points, and they didn't charge anything to change the flight, and then when we cancelled they just put my free flight back in my account. This would have been expensive with any other airline.

Lois...I think a Thanksgiving cruise would be great, but we are with our Florida family and friends then and I wouldn't want to break the traditions.

Happy Anniversary Carol and Kent . Shame Kim couldn't make it. I am not sold on the health nut stuff, but I listen to Duke and the Doctor often when I am in the car in the mornings, and they make good sense. Good website too. Still, I love my doc and rely on his advice. I think it is too easy to start on the health stuff and get so involved in it that conventional medical staff aren't consulted.

Hope Nova is having smooth sailing. We took a 7 nighter to Bermuda on the Zenith a while back, and it was a great trip. Phyl considered taking the grandkids there this summer, but cruise fare is just out of sight in the summer when school is out.

Had a nice 9 holes of golf this morning. Am really liking playing with the seniors as I am meeting new people. One old guy who I played with this morning-I mean really old-probably averaged 6-7 per hole. But, you could see he at one time had some game and I asked him what his HC was when he was younger-at one time it was 6. That's why I love golf-the guy is still out there having fun.

We have an outfit called Save A Kitty which focuses on feral cats. One of their main projects is to catch, neuter, and release. They also feed and monitor colonies. I decided I wanted to volunteer somewhere and I think that is a good fit for me. I go to my first meeting tonight. We don't have pets because we travel so much.

Lois, we would certainly welcome you to enjoy any time or holiday with us, and didn't consider you to be inviting yourself. It just doesn't work this year logistically.

I loved the pro golf this weekend. Stricker is such a good guy, and it is nice that he won at Jack's. Lincicome is our home town fave as her dad is from here and her mom from just down the river. She is the one who plays at our big charity event each year. She can sure knock the stuffing out of the ball. She and her caddy looked like they were having fun out there, which is a nice departure from some of them who look so miserable.

Hasta luego

I subbed Special Ed again today, but it was the easiest kind where I was a Resource teacher.

Today is my 45th Wedding anniversary. We were married on 6/6/66. Since the DH isn't feeling really well, we didn't plan on any big celebrations, but just plan on going out for a nice dinner tonight. When we go back to Florida for July if he is feeling better down there, which usually happens, we will take all our friends and Florida family out for a dinner. We started dating when I was a freshman in college and married at his graduation when I was just finishing my sophmore year, so we actually have been going out for 47 years. It always amazes me how much time has gone by.

Still in Spain............

Starting to feel better finally. I still look awful with the bruising and lump on my forehead.

Carol - Happy Anniversary!

Hope Nova is having fun in Bermuda.....

Re Princess - They are pretty much non-smoking in all inside public areas except the casino. I believe you can smoke in your cabin and on your balcony. In all honesty, I have not been bothered by any smoking on Princess.

If you don´t want to be around smoking do not come to Spain! I am amazed by the number of smokers here..........

Bob - contimue to enjoy your golfing!

Carol, hope you had a great evening.

VC, if that lump stays there much longer, you are going to have to give it a name

I searched to see what Nova was doing in Bermuda but can't find it. Anyway, here is a link to my favorite place, Church Bay. Best snorkeling on the island.

Poker today. I have a shirt I got from St. Kitts that shows a skeleton playing cards with the caption that he is not playing with a full deck.

Thanks for the Anniversary wishes! We did enjoy our dinner out.

I can agree with Bob about Church Bay. I have snorkeled there and it is fun because you can see so many beautiful fish without going deep at all.

VC...I am glad you are healing, and hope all will be back to normal soon.

Here is my laugh for the day.....

An old Italian lived alone in New Jersey . He wanted to plant his annual tomato garden, but it was very difficult work, as the ground was hard.

His only son, Vincent, who used to help him, was in prison. The old man wrote a letter to his son and described his predicament:

Dear Vincent,
I am feeling pretty sad, because it looks like I won't be able to plant my tomato garden this year. I'm just getting too old to be digging up a garden plot. I know if you were here my troubles would be over. I know you would be happy to dig the plot for me, like in the old days.
Love, Papa

A few days later he received a letter from his son.

Dear Pop,
Don't dig up that garden. That's where the bodies are buried..
Love, Vinnie

At 4 a.m. the next morning, FBI agents and local police arrived and dug up the entire area without finding any bodies. They apologized to the old man and left.

That same day the old man received another letter from his son.

Dear Pop,

Go ahead and plant the tomatoes now. That's the best I could do under the circumstances.

Love you

Well, the short answer is that there is no ac in the room with my computer! Plus, it has been slow to load. I tried to get a link to stuff in Bermuda but it took too long. My package has a moderate speed and I probably ought to upgrade, but hate to spend the money when most of the time it is sufficient.

That is a great classic joke.

Played golf today. Rode as it is just too hot to walk.

Hope y'all have a great weekend.

Welcome home, Nova-hope the cruise exceeded expectations! If we didn't already have 21 days booked in Nov/Dec, we'd consider another Bermuda trip. Love it there.

Lot of storms here last night, but they passed through by about 8 am and it is now much cooler and more pleasant than it had been. Next week looks great.

I remember years ago following the NBA playoffs, (back in the Wilt, Russell, Cousy, et al eras), but just can't get excited about pro hoops. I have been watching more baseball this year than I had in a long time. And, of course, I love my golf, but I miss Tiger.

Hi folks, had a lunch with a friend I have not seen in a long time. We
went to a really good seafood place called Mitchell's and it was nice
to catch up. Her Mom is in a home too and she and Dad were in their
first "Assisted Place" together about 1.5 years ago. Her Mom seems
to be in better shape than my Dad now.

Bob, I think Susan and Jonathon get back tomorrow. Hope they had
a fun cruise. Speaking of cruises, I have been trying to find something
for later this year. To be honest, after sailing Century I would LOVE to
sail her to Alaska but prices are sky high. Usually the last couple
of cruises of the season (in SEPT) are usually much lower but this
year? They are higher and higher.....unreal. I found dirt cheap airfare
for Sept from here to Seattle but the cruise is too expensive....fooey!

I want Dallas to beat Miami!!!! And I miss Tiger too.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend.

We haven't had any rain, but I have been running the irrigation system and will just have to pay the huge water bill because with 102 degree temps everything dries out very quickly. Much cheaper to pay for water than it is to replace dead plants.

Nothing going on here. Kevin has his bowling today, and tomorrow his group is having a family pool party and pot luck picnic, so I hope it doesn't rain tomorrow.

I stayed busy all week subbing because the jobs will dry up next week because it is the last week of school. We will head for Florida the end of June for a month. That's my time to go to the beach.

Lois...I find that the week after labor day usually has cheap prices. Wait until final payment is due, and then you can usually steal cruises to wherever.

Hi, I was lurking on S&J's Bermuda Roll call and they posted they are
home now. So WELCOME BACK....hope you had a great cruise and
looking forward to hearing (reading) all about it.

Carol, normally that is correct about prices coming down after final
payment. Not sure that will happen this time but you never know.

What a welcome home. Major thunderstorm just passed through. Temp went from about 86 to 72 in just a few minutes. Carol, did you get any rain from this one? It should be there by now (6 pm) -- it's been finished here for a bit already (I'm still typing).

The cruise was lovely but I didn't do too well with walking. I think it's my left knee plus the sciatica -- same leg. I could barely walk around the ship, which we really liked, of course. By dinnertime some evenings, I had to hang onto J to get to the dining room. (Summit is looking pretty good to me.) So the visit to Hamilton on Friday, which was a bad choice -- private boat transportation for a shopping expedition -- and we're not shoppers, really -- that was a dead loss for me since I was hurting so much by then. J visited more of the shops than I did, but I mostly sat and waited for him. I did find some cute onesies for the DGS due in early December at Marks & Spencer -- yes major $$$ but way too cute not to bring them home. J walked around the park near the original post office and got some nice photos. (He'll post photos with his review.) I did better the first day (Wed) in St. George -- managed most of the walking sort of ok and our tour guide was excellent. I managed to get up (and down) the 85 steps in that lighthouse, no less. Walked around the Anglican church a bit. He drove us around St. George and St. David and gave us quite a lecture through the entire drive. We walked around the shopping area in the Dockyard on Thursday, more or less. No beach day. I didn't want to get overheated, given medication restrictions. Oh well. No pink sand and not even a toe in the water. Temps were in the mid-80's and beautiful days, though.

We had the VERY BEST cabin attendants ever (perhaps concierge class gets experienced crew? we did mention all the good things/people by name on our evaluation forms) and good ones in the dining room, too. We had a string trio from Russia -- very nice listening in Cova -- and the Neptunes were performing there and elsewhere from time to time -- that's the a capella group of 4 guys -- excellent. We didn't do any shows. The piano bar in Michael's wasn't really to our taste -- he was a bit too loud for my tender ears, as was the guitar/vocalist guy who played in Cova sometimes. J did the bridge and galley tours and most of the discussion re the engine room (no tour -- just a talk) -- all this on Saturday. We caught the two speakers on TV replay occasionally -- one from the Smithsonian Air & Space re the Space Shuttle program over the years seemed quite good (I wanted to see her last one about living long term up there without gravity but didn't make it and couldn't find it on TV) and the other about life in Bermuda seemed ok.

Dining room: We had to change tables since we were the only ones at our table for 6. One couple was lovely -- the people that had invited us over -- there were two couples when they invited us, but they'd been left for no discernible reason by the other couple that showed up once and not again and their third couple never showed -- nice enough that we exchanged contact info. The other couple that they sent over, well none of us enjoyed much. Oh well, that happens. I think a lot of people use the buffet and don't bother letting anyone in the dining room know. If they change to Select dining, at least the dining room knows about it.

Our one dinner in Normandie was ok -- J liked his meal better than I did. We didn't go a second time partly because there wasn't anything else I wanted to try on their menu. Service was quite outstanding and we really preferred the quieter atmosphere there, however.

Boarding and disembarkation were super. We got to the port around 11 or a bit after and barely had to wait anywhere -- parked, covered the car (because the dry dock is too close by for comfort and there's been recent word of paint overspray), waited for one person to check in and then we were on. (Well, onto the Rutgers bus -- they must borrow the entire fleet from Rutgers every Sunday in season -- and then on board.) Cabins ready at 1. For disembarkation, we asked to be off by about 9 due to our long drive home and they gave us that time (don't know if that's because we're now Select or because we had a Concierge cabin) but it turned out to be about 9:15, out of customs and in the car with luggage and on the road by 10 or 10 after 10. Trip back from Bayonne went quite smoothly, for a surprising change -- straight down 95. (We remember our return from the Princess cruise -- thunderstorm plus tornado in the area -- we had to pull over for a while!)

J will be doing a full review, as usual. It'll be in our sig block when he does. His member reviews of the two Mercury cruises have disappeared since there's no more Mercury so all the member reviews of Mercury have been archived. Laura said she'd e-mail them so he can post them elsewhere and re-link if he doesn't have a copy here.

Yes, I have a pain doc appt on Tuesday -- pre-planned. I probably need an appt with the knee doc, too, but I'll talk to them Tuesday first.

J's at the grocery store. I'm running laundry. Watered the plants, too. Sitting in the recliner feels a lot better than anything!

Carol, happy anniversary and I do wish he felt better. Glad the kiddo is ok, though. Sorry the DD hasn't been able to come but I do wish she'd use a bit of western medicine once it gets that bad. How's she doing now?

Bob, I conveyed your regards to Laura. She's quite nice, of course. We saw her and the other hosts on the trip at the gatherings (sailaway -- windy and chilly so nobody stayed long, and the connections party -- she drew names and gave away stuff from the shop -- I guess they're replacing things -- everyone got a lanyard), but not much connection elsewhere, just occasional sightings here and there. Ditto the rest of the roll call. Sometimes it's that way. One person from CA had a luggage scare -- but very luckily, it got to the airport the morning we sailed, so her ride diverted from their overnight hotel to pick it up before going to the port. (She described the situation on the roll call.)

VC, I hope you continue to improve. It took me several months to really recover from my fall. Psychologically, too, of course. Didn't realize you had a lump on your forehead. Was there any chance you gave yourself a concussion? I didn't realize you'd hit your head that hard, though I should have, what with two black eyes and so forth. Did you have a medical look-over?

J's home with the groceries so I'd better go.

Bob, if you think we should move the thread to that other location, which sounds like the consensus, I think, maybe, then drop another e-mail to Laura. She probably has a pile of mail so give her a chance to get home and through it before you do that. I think she's working through the big threads gradually, so she'll be getting to those others eventually.

Addendum: The DGS won't be born at the Hamilton, Bermuda, Marks & Spencer shop, so far as I know, but more likely near home in Miami Beach. However, the onesies were found there. Sigh. I'm tired, I guess.

Welcome home Susan. I am glad that you had a good time, only I feel sorry for you that your leg gave you such a hard time getting around. It's no fun to have to walk when you are in pain. I traveled around a European cruise using a cane, and crutches when the leg got really bad, but at least I had the support they gave me to be able to get around. It was interesting putting crutches and my cane seat thru the airlines.

Too bad your original table turned up empty. That is a reason I like to travel with a group so that you know you will have fun at dinner.

I was at a pool party with Kevin over in Silver Spring and we heard thunder in the distance, but nothing came there. When I got home I was hoping to see wet pavement and grass, but it was dry, so I don't know which way the storms went. It's funny how the storms have been coming through and only hitting certain areas.

I have heard from Florida friends that the water shortage there is getting so critical and that the golf courses can no longer take any water out of the lakes because the water level is so low that the pumps would suck in mud and get ruined. People are saying that pretty soon our area of Florida is going to look like Arizona.

I sure am going to stay away from our little village of Potomac next week because it is going to be grid lock with the Open coming to Congressional.

Welcome home Susan and Jonathon. Sounds like you had a good cruise
but so sorry to hear about the leg problemshope you are feeling
better. Glad you had such good cabin attendants too.

The heat and fires here are really bad we need RAIN...RAIN....
and at least it is starting to do that right now
