We are on the Regal now. All the gee whiz stuff may never eventuate but, the new high speed internet is really well worth the effort. It will be very difficult to go back to the old internet after this experience.

For the those who have earned the perk, going back to unlimited internet is a joy. You actually can attach a photo to your emil and it goes without hesitation. You can stream.

This is a real advancement.

I, we, may all have been a bit hasty about the speed of the new Internet. I happened to be in the Internet cafe since my devices had slowed considerably. There was a group discussing this and the managers said that this was foreseeable as we approach Europe. I didn’t stay for the whole discussion and few present would have understood...something about the different satellites and also at that moment about 5pm they said half the passengers were connected and using the Internet....I imagine some were sending huge files and pic albums which I am guessing would slow things down. So all may not be as great as it seemed. Time will tell, about a week, I imagine. Mike

Some mis-leading or incorrect information:

"It’s similar to the MagicBand in that it has information on you even before you step on the ship" No, it does not have information about you, only a reference ID number. The information about you is stored on a ship's computer and is accessed via the reference ID number.

"The Medallion needs to be in constant contact with the cloud..." No, it has to in contact (via ships WIFI) with a computer on the ship. In my opinion, that is not "the cloud."

"What it takes to make it work could one day be used on land." Well, it works on land OK for Disney now.

Also, in a local restaurant you place your order at a counter and they give you what looks like a device to alert you when your food is ready (like what Princess hands you when you are waiting for a table at a dining room). But it really functions like a Medallion should, and a waiter brings you food to exactly the place you are sitting at.

Uhh... No. The Regal Princess is owned by Carnival Corp & PLC.

"Princess" is one of their ten brands. Sailing on that brand is very different from

sailing on the Carnival brand or the Seabourn brand, but you buy CCL stock to

get stockholder OBC on Regal.

No matter who owns the Regal, this is a picture of the Royal.

Smartphones, Tile and Trackr have been doing it for years. They are hooked to the cloud via Bluetooth of your phone, OR BLUETOOTH OF THOSE AROUND YOU. As I have said I don't think there has been a hardware problem. The medallions themselves work, when equipped the door locks work, location software using Bluetooth works. The problem is writing new apps that HAVE to communicate with each other.

Thanks, Bill. That was the point.

I thought the pedantic post about princess being part of carnival (corp) was unnecessary,

as buying CCL stock for a princess shipboard credit is discussed here on a daily basis.

Early this morning our ***** stopped working. We went to the ***** help desk and someone from there had to accompany us back to our cabin so they could verify that it didn’t work. Then they took both of our *****’s and said they would fix and get them back to us. It’s 335pm on ships time and no sign of them as yet. Cruise cards work to get in cabin.

Last night the ***** worked in the casino without a problem.

Thanks for sharing updates during your cruise and based on posts by passengers the functions that work the best are ways to spend money in the casino & gift shops.

As I talked with a large variety most don’t have ***** and those who do don’t seem impressed. Internet speed is about 4/5 of US speed. The manager of Internet cafe said it takes a few days to change from US satellites and this will be first time for Regal on European satellites. Don’t know what if any difference there is but do know fast internet slowed to old slow crawl for a day or so. Mike

Dunno if this is the entire answer, but for a while Regal wasn't playing with

a full deck as antennae were being re-pointed to different satellites.

Captain announced that fast internet slowed because of European satellite. Tomorrow he said we hook to a different high speed one again. He noted this is the first experience in Europe for

The new system and they have a fast one comparable to US lined up for tomorrow I’m sure he was using non technical easy to understand terms. Mike

It certainly doesn't look good for our supposed ***** Caribbean Princess cruise in August. Oh well, I suppose we will just have to use our cruise cards and they won't be able to track our every movement for their marketing purposes.

On regal now. They have told me that carribean princess is next for ***** however they have not decided if they will install the door locks also the internet has benn working ok. I had less cutout on regal then I had on Navigator of the seas which doesn’t have o3b. YouTube works better on regal as well

Thank you for your “real time” update. I am on the next sailing of the Regal. I am looking forward to not having to budget my internet.

Slightly off topic, how are the televisions working? There was an earlier thread that they were not working well, at all. I am wondering if this has been resolve now that the Regal is on a consistent schedule.

From a response to what I believe was in the other thread, there was an issue --now

fixed-- with an amplifier serving about 40 staterooms.

All this talk has me dreading my next Regal cruise. It isn't until Feb 2019 but at the rate they are going it seems I won't even be able to open my cabin door. I don't see any benefit of the medallion for me anyway.

We were thinking about doing a b2b in February, only because of the *****. This would have been our first cruise in the elite level, now i’m Not so sure.

I was on the Regal for the first 3 ***** Cruises in November 2017 and they were wonderful cruises. Don’t let ***** effect how you cruise. The Regal is a gorgeous ship. Just because the ***** is not really operational that doesn’t mean the cruise will be chaotic. The cruise will be like any other Princess cruise you have been on. The ship is lovely and you will be able to take advantage of your new elite benefits. I hope you go and enjoy your b2b plus the elite benefits.

The Internet connection from Regal during our recent T/S was atrocious. Quick to get on and access the first site, very slow to impossible to access down within a site, even to the point of locking up. Just BAD!

Wow, basing a cruise on a little piece of junk technology, sounds like someone needs to reevaluate cruising all together, sheesh.

If you can post acceptable reasons to pick a cruise, and a list of acceptable activities

passengers may participate in while on board, we would all be in your debt.

WRT the original poster, you are assuming quite a bit of risk -- princess may tell you ocean medallion

will be ready, but once you're onboard you find out differently. Hundreds. (maybe thousands) of

cruisers have already been disappointed in this way.
