St John is taking the place of our 2d sea day so it’s really just an extra port because we don’t need the travel time.

I take it you mean Saint John New Brunswick not St John's Newfoundland

There is a difference & not just the spelling :halo:

Having a cell phone and having it work constantly on a cruise ship are two different things. I have enabled my plan to work overseas at a daily rate but it won't work on the ship. Having it do so is not worth the expense and trouble when you can get on wifi with it and other devices. We always tell our kids to email (which we check daily) and give them the ship phone number in case of emergency.

To the OP: As everyone has said, O will not put your loved ones in danger. Bermuda should be okay but they will watch for the rough seas and modify if necessary.

If it's a newer phone (e.g., iPhone 7+) with the right home carrier (e.g., AT&T on Oceania for one), wifi calling works fine (not blocked/throttled) with O's standard unlimited O Life Included perk. We made/received regular calls to/from the US during Insignia's TP from Sydney to L.A. earlier this year.

...If anyone has been to St John or Portland and has any DIY tour ideas (that do not include food lol) would appreciate hearing about them [emoji1]

The Bay of Fundy, where St. John is located has the highest tides in the world. If that intrigues you, there are lots of things to do. Schedule a visit to the Reversing Falls. http://new-brunswick.net/Saint_John/reversingfalls/reversing.html

When we visited many, many decades ago, the Irving Pulp and Paper mill was allowed to dump its pulp waste into the water. Environmentally tragic, but easy to track the reversal of the river flow by watching the pulp. The Irving Mill is still there and still operating, but I don't think they're allowed dump pulp. Still, they regularly make the news for visually blighting the landscape with their smokestacks and the occasional accidental discharge of "something."

At low tide, we walked on the ocean floor, among the high rock structures that haven't been eroded by the tides of the Bay of Fundy. We did this at Hopewell Rocks farther up the Bay of Fundy from St. John, but, perhaps, someone has done this closer to St. John.

Here's a link to a tides table for St. John https://www.tide-forecast.com/locations/Saint-John-New-Brunswick/tides/latest

Last year we were diverted from Bermuda on Insignia and our substitute ports were St Johns and Portland, with an extra day in NYC.

st Johns NB is a pretty weak port, we stayed onboard. We’ve been there before, not much to see. The Bay of Fundy is interesting if it is high tide. Otherwise....

We’ve never understood why cruise ships stop here.

Portland Maine is wonderful. We did a little online research and learned there are lots of independent trolley trips. Just exit the gated terminal area, turn left and walk a couple blocks to the ticket office for the trolleys. Easy to find and we took an interesting tour around town and to the famous lighthouse. On clear days, you can find boat trips to see lighthouses.

The extra night in NYC was great, no explanation needed.
