But has anyone here sailed on the MSC Divina? A couple of Tas are offering it as the filling to the Caribbean wrapped around by a to and from New York on the QM2. I have some misgivings about the cruiseline, etc but the price is very good for 40 nights.

Similarly what about the Norwegian Gem? We've sailed on the Breakaway and were pleasantly surprised.

Thanks.

We sailed on MSC-Seaside. I know you are asking about Divina. We were so disappointed with MSC and are excited to get back to Cunard. Absolutely no comparison! Please go to the MSC board here on CC to read the reviews.
Our cruise was also very inexpensive, but as they say “you get what you pay for”.

I've heard consistent reports from the Divina that the ship is beautiful, but the food is poor and service is spotty.

It's doable if you set your expectations properly.

On the Divina you won't have a proper spa, promenade deck, observation lounge that you have on QM2. You won't be allowed to catch a view forward because all forward looking areas are either suites or "the first class facilities" (the ship has two-class system aka "ship-within-a-ship"). The ship has no forward viewing deck.
Given the smaller public space and additional 1,000+ passengers, you'll experience about two times increase in passergers per square inch.
No afternoon tea.
The food overall is less than average.

Basically this is a 3* mega mass market ship.
On the positive side, as a first time MSC cruiser, you'll appreciate much more livable shows in the theater.
For extra charge you'll have access to a serene sun deck (recommended).
Given a chance to be on the ship when the crowd is in ports, you'll enjoy better than on the QM2 swimming pools.
Balcony cabins are standard size, balconies smaller.
Some interior areas are well appointed and pleasant.
The whole experience will depend on the itinerary.

I am not surprised that you were pleasantly surprised with the Breakaway.
This is one of best ship in it's category. I rank it over any Celebrity ship BTW.

The Gem unfortunately is not as interesting as the Breakaway/Getaway.

Enjoy your cruise!
