Husband asking do they have Single Malts onboard. Tito’s maybe? What’s the best Martini? Can you upcharge if the drink is over 15 or he pays full price?

If you order a drink with a price higher than the max, you will be billed for the difference between the price and your max allowance.

Do you have personal experience of the package operating in that way Eaches? That is not my understanding of how it works.

As I interpret the policy, it covers only drinks priced $15 and below. Drinks priced $16 and above are excluded completely from the program and so will be charged for in full.

On our recent cruise on Viking Sky, we often ordered wine from room service, it was promptly delivered, and included in our Silver Spirits beverage package

Glad to hear it. Now I can relax and look forward to Jan '19. Ok, I would have looked forward to it either way, but now even more. Love sitting on my verandah sipping something sparkling.

What type cabin/room were you in?

Hi,

Since we're wine drinkers the silver spirits package didn't make sense anymore since there were only three red and three white plus a proseco. However, since we'd booked before the cruise we couldn't cancel.

However the ship still has some bottles from the old package when they'd had a lot of premium wines, so they're offering us wine from the previous listing every day. That works quite well. However I'd advise folk to wait to book for the silver package til they're onboard and they can see what is offered on the ship.

Linda

I cut to the chase and emailed TellUs@vikingcruises.com. I asked mainly about the wine as that seemed to be where the confusion was happening. I believe we all have the 'spirit' rules pretty straight. Glad to see that there are indeed many different wines to choose from by the glass. Here is their reply:

Thank you for your email; I am in receipt of your inquiry and am happy to provide some insight below.

I appreciate your attention to detail as you finalize plans for your upcoming voyage Into the Midnight Sun, and as such am glad to provide to you an update directly from our Head Sommelier aboard Viking Star.

At this time, guests with the Silver Spirits Beverage Package (SSBP) amenity, aboard all ocean vessels and on any itinerary, may expect access to 41 wines in total by the glass that fall under the $15 cap. Also available on the menu will be champagne, which is exempt from the SSBP by-the-glass benefit as it is more than $15. If, however, guests decide not to buy the SSBP, they can enjoy our house wines selection on board (wine of the day) that is rotated every day.

I understand previous cruisers may have experienced different wine availability during their respective journeys, with or without the SSBP, and I thank you for your patience as we implement revisions to our beverage offerings.

Mrs. xxx, it is my hope that I’ve answered your questions to your satisfaction. Should you have any lingering concerns as your sojourn draws near, please do not hesitate to reach back out to us at TellUs@vikingcruises.com where a team of specialists may assist you seven days a week.

Ok, I’m a single malt scotch drinker. As I read the sample drink menu from Vikings web site under “enhance your trip “ they list Glenfiddich and Aberlour 10 yr as single malt scotch.

Are these examples, or, the only available single malt scotch whiskey on the ship? In other words, if we buy the beverage package, can I ask for a Highland Park, or Glenmorangie, and assuming it’s under $15/ drink, have it included?

There seem to be some very conflicting opinions (reference the 🍷 discussion). I’d rather bring my own scotch and forego the package if I’m limited to two choices. If there are more choices someone will know and kindly tell me here with some examples if possible.

I’d rather not carry on a case of assorted liquor as the package is very reasonable.

My husband had Macallan so at least you have 3. I believe I saw Highland Park but I'm not sure 100%.

Highland Park and Macallan aren’t rare, or unusual, and I would expect them and several others to be on reasonably stocked bars. I don’t want to be on a 24 day cruise with only the two they show on their sample menu. But actually the prices shown are reasonable if they have a good selection and choices.

Hi Wildcat68, we will be starting our cruise this coming Thursday on the Star, Mediterranean Odyssey and we have the Silver Drinks Package, I'll post as soon as I can what selection of single malts they have. I too hope they have a good selection.

Thanks Northumbrialass. That’s the response I’m looking for. It does seem odd to dwell on this but we are on a 23/24 day cruise and the 11, or 12 sea days are a time when the choices could make a difference. The information found here is often helpful but seems conflicting to me.

Wildcat, here's a link which should allay your worries about single malt whisky

That's the river cruise bar menu so not necessarily representative. Common sense would suggest that if a river cruiser with 190 pax can carry that many malts then an ocean liner with 900 pax can manage at least as many, but the best way to be sure is to wait for Northumbrialass's report of what's actually available.

I realise things may have changed since they were taken, but the bar photos in the Star gallery don't show much of a selection of malts, e.g. https://www.cruisecritic.co.uk/photos/ships/viking-star-748/viking-bar-205888/viking-bar--v10510611/

Wildcat, here's a link which should allay your worries about single malt whisky:

http://wpc.475d.edgecastcdn.net/00475D/mvj/onboardbeveragemenu_europe.pdf

It covers all sorts of whisky (without an "e") and even whiskey (with an "e"), from paint stripper to the good stuff so should keep you happy (hic!) for a cruise or two.

Thanks for that menu. Realizing that is not yesterday’s publication and it is in euros, it’s a pretty impressive list. I look forward to seeing the current offering on an Ocean ship. Very promising!
