Are there any Marriott hotel properties near the Los Angeles pier?

Thanks you are being super helpful ~ I found 2 Residence Inn locations in Long Beach ~ would it be the one on East Willow Street or the one on Queensway Drive/Downtown?

It would be the Downtown/Queensway Drive location. At least the closest one to the port...which would be easy walking distance to the ship.

Queensway location is on the free Long Beach Passport route. Route goes to many tourist places.

Which cruiseline are you sailing? Carnival sails out of Long Beach, Everyone else sails out of San Pedro.

Closest would be Long Beach (I prefer Long Beach over San Pedro where the pier is) . They have a Residence Inn and Renaissance.

Why do you prefer Long Beach over San Pedro and even if the HAL ship sails from San Pedro? Which would be the most convenience location to pick up various sundries before a long cruise?

I'll try to field this. What some people prefer about Long Beach--and we are strictly talking about the Downtown/Convention Center area of Long Beach--is that it is more modern...with more and nicer hotels...many more restaurant choices...some major attractions like the Aquarium of the Pacific and the Queen Mary...and lots more touristy shops in Seaport Village, the Pike, etc. Plus a free city shuttle, the "Passport", to take you all around the area. The trade-off is that it is a bit less convenient for those cruising out of San Pedro. Depending on the hotel, you'd be 6-9 miles away from the port and require an extra taxi or Uber to get there.

Shopping for "sundries" is a whole different adventure. The Residence Inn by LGB airport is in an industrial/airport-related use area with very little nearby. There is also a Courtyard by Marriott just north of the airport--which is about a mile and a quarter from a Walmart...but there is very little else around there either.

The Renaissance Long Beach is about six blocks from a Vons Supermarket. There is also a Courtyard on First Street--just outside the prime area of Downtown Long Beach that buts you within about two blocks of the Vons Supermarket. The Residence Inn Downtown is across the channel from the Downtown area--in a very industrial port area--very close to the Carnival Terminal and Queen Mary...but, to get to a supermarket or the like, you'd need to do a combination of the free shuttle and walking. There used to be a Walmart near Downtown Long Beach, but it closed. Stores such as Walmart or Target would require taking an Uber or taxi as there are none withing the prime hotel area.

Another thought--if you must stay at a Marriott product is to consider the Del Amo Mall area in Torrance--about halfway between LAX and San Pedro. There is a Marriott right across the street from the mall and a Residence Inn about a block north...and shopping of all kinds to your heart's delight...You'd need an Uber or taxi from LAX there...and another from their to the pier the next day--but short distances each time...

Either city is fine to pick up last minute items.

Some of the So. California locals do recommend San Pedro but for us I just don't care for it. We like to walk and find it much more enjoyable walking around Long Beach. We also like the variety of restaurants and the greater choice of hotels. Like the boardwalk, aquarium and even walking around the Queen Mary.

Now if we were just arriving for the night maybe it wouldn't matter.

Thanks so much, Keith. Your info and opinions are, as always, most helpful. Now, one last thought: We have friends in Beverly Hills, but the hotels there are a little pricey for us. Also, it is a ways from San Pedro. What do you think of Santa Monica as a good alternative, rather than either of the ports, for a two-night stay prior to the cruise? Shops and restaurants are plentiful, and it appears that it is an easy Uber ride from LAX and then to the port. And more convenient for our friends to meet up with us.

Thank you so much for the kind words and you are very welcome.

Yes, Santa Monica would be a lot of fun. You are right about Beverly Hills. It is pricey and certain times of the year even more so.

Good luck with all of this.
