"LIVE" from Carnival Victory / Aug 3, 2008

Radio

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone! Today is the first day of my "LIVE" reports aboard Carnival Victory for a 5 night cruise to Canada.

We will leaving the NY Cruise Terminal later today, and will be in Canada on Tuesday, and Wednesday. We will be docked in Saint John, New Brunswick, and Halifax Nova Scotia.

Those of you who have followed my "LIVE" reports with RCI, and HAL, and NCL already know that I will provide daily comments and trip reports from this cruise.

I will also try to post many "LIVE" pics daily (as long as I am able to maintain a valid wireless connection)

I have sailed with Carnival many times, but have not posted a “LIVE” report. (My first Carnival Cruise was on Fantasy in 1992) My last sailing with Carnival was in 1999, on Carnival Triumph.

The Carnival Victory is very similar to Triumph. The Victory has the “Great Oceans, and Seas” theme, while the Triumph has the “Great Cities of the World” Theme. This was the last ship built before the introduction of the Conquest Class (a stretched version of the Destiny/Triumph Class)

Carnival Victory will be sailing 4/5 night cruises to Canada, before switching her home port to San Juan, PR in November.

I am very excited about sailing to Canada aboard Victory this week. I think that the ship will be sailing full, and the forecast for today is calling for sunny skies, and warm temps (86f).

So sit back, and relax. . .this should be a fun cruise ! I hope that my internet connection stays active.

I should be getting to the Manhattan Cruise Terminal by about 11AM. I am currently staying in a hotel, close to Newark International Airport. It should only take about 30 min to get to the pier.

Sail away is scheduled for 5PM today. . .

I will post again after boarding. . .

Thanks for tuning in !

This is great - a live report! We leave on the 4 day trip to Canada on the 14th on the Victory! We sailed the Victory a year ago last June and really enjoyed the ship. We are taking the kids on their first cruise, so can't wait to see their reaction when they first walk aboard! :p

I do have a question for you regarding use of the Internet. On our prior cruises, we have always bought a plan and used the ship's computers to keep in touch with the kids. Since the kids are going this time, my son, an avid football buff, wants to take his laptop to keep informed of football stats, etc. Will he be able to use his laptop in his room (Lido deck)? Will be still have to purchase a plan? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have a great trip and I look forward to your broadcasts!

By the way...you're at Pier 92 this morning, as I see on the webcam.

Great. . .Thanks !

I will wait untill the rush hour traffic eases up, before I head in to the Terminal.

I was there yeterday for a ship tour, and there was little traffic.

Thanks, Radio! I can't wait to read your reviews. I will be doing this exact itinerary in 2 weeks, along with nybumpkin.

I can't wait to psych myself out even more...

Enjoy your cruise, and while it's only 2 weeks away for me, I'm still jealous.

Joining the above 2 posters in 2 weeks.........looking forward to reading your review.......

Does anyone remember the street number the pier is on? 54 Street? Going to call a few car services today.......

Enjoy!

Bluiz, I believe the cross street is 54th street where the terminal starts, but that street is a one way (look at googlemaps - search "manhattan cruise terminal" in satellite mode). You may want to drive up 55th street and then go over one block. My father and I actually drove by the terminal yesterday while 2 Norwegian ships were loading up thousands of excited patrons, and there was A LOT of traffic on the West side. I would recommend for anyone to go uptown on an Avenue in central manhattan (8th Ave maybe) and then cross over on 55th; you'll get ahead of many stressed and eager drivers wanting to turn into the terminal. why start your vacation this way??

Also, Bluiz, any car service should know what streets to take to get to the cruise terminal, especially the quickest routes in traffic.

See you there!

Someone recently informed me on another thread that yes, you can get a wireless signal anywhere on the Victory. I'm fairly certain that with a laptop you have the option of pay-as-you-go or a plan, but can't swear to it.

Hello everyone ! I left the hotel at about 1045AM, and pulled into the NY Cruise Terminal in Manhattan 30 minutes later. . .

It was very quick. I was really surprised how fast it was. I thought it would have been much more traffic today than yesterday. Oh well. . . I arrived at the terminal with no worries.

I parked on top of Pier 92, and it was only a few minutes before I was on the ship. I was able to check in quickly, and immediately board Victory at about 11:30PM. It was very efficient.

The cabins opened at 1:30PM, to drop off anything that you might carry on.

I went up to the Lido deck for a nice lunch. The Yangtze Wok, East River Deli, and Pizzeria were also open today for lunch.

I took a few photos, and explored the ship. The Muster drill today will be at 4:30, and we set sail at 5PM.

The Captain for this sailing is Antonino Sammartano, and the Cruise Director is Malcolm Burn. The Casino will open right after sailing, and there is only one Welcome Aboard Show tonight at 10:30 PM.

My dinner is at 8:15PM in the Atlantic Dining Room (Deck 4 MID)

There is a nice Internet Package I will get for only .44/min. I am happy to say that I get a wifi signal from my Cabin ! Very Nice. . .

You can get Wi-Fi Bow to Stern on this ship !

I will try to post again later tonight, after Sail away.

Thanks for tuning in. . .

Hey Radio

Thanks for taking the time to post the "live" thread. I'm looking forward to reading every post of this thread as I'm on Victory in Oct. for the Repositioning cruise to San Juan.

Question for ya if you don't mind. :D

Are in in a balcony room? If so, can you get some pics and post them for me. PPPPPPLLLLLLEEEEASE and Thank You.;)

Also, tell Malcolm to rest up for the CC group sailing on Oct 26. We are gonna rock that boat for 7 days! :D He will need a rest when we are finished with him.

Take care of the Victory for us.

Enjoy your cruise!
