I originally posted this on the Princess board, but thought I will also post here on the Fathom board.
Fathom was created to provide opportunities for deeper travel experiences where travelers could work alongside locals to improve their communities and experience deeper human connection. Initially Fathom had its own ship (the Adonia)and offered social impact cruises to Cuba and Dominican Republic. Now, Fathom has expanded to offering this experience on select Princess Cruises voyages. I saw this on Cruise Critic, and was thrilled to see that my May 26 Eastern Caribbean cruise on the Caribbean Princess was one of these cruises. I emailed Fathom to sign up and was sent a welcome packet with information. A few weeks before the cruise I was able to sign up for the Fathom shore excursions.
A Fathom welcome party was held on embarkation day. We met the Fathom team which consisted of the Fathom guides (Katie, Paige and Ambra) plus two interns from Oklahoma who were our photographers. This incredible group of women provided daily programs on the ship and escorted the excursions. At the welcome party we met our cohort groups, picked up our Fathom swag, participated in some ice breakers so that everyone could get to know each other, enjoyed some free drinks, and found out about the programs and activities on offer during this cruise. I was one of a handful of first time “Fathomers”. Most folks had been on multiple Fathom cruises. They have a loyal following and I understand why. Consider me a convert!
Every day we would get the Fathom Current newsletter delivered to our cabin. This is like the Patter, but specific to the activities offered by Fathom. Most sea days consisted of 2 morning activities, 2 afternoon activities plus dinner together. Fathom had tables hosted by the Fathom Guides. All of the above was optional. You can participate as much or as little as you like. Personally, I really enjoyed my cohort meetings, and I learned a lot from the activities I attended. I felt this was a perfect compliment to the other great activities that are standard offerings by Princess. I was still able to enjoy Zumba, line dance, trivia, games shows, production shows, and all the other wonderful experiences that make a Princess cruise so great. However, Fathom provided a venue to make deeper connections both with my fellow travelers, and with the people and places we visited.
Here are some of the stats for what we accomplished on our cruise:
1. Built 20 planters used to grow produce to benefit 946 students at 2 schools in St Thomas
2. Constructed 2 coral trees, measured 69 mangrove seedlings and cleaned 97 lbs of trash from Brewers Bay
3. Met St Maarten hurricane survivors and learned how music and art have helped them heal
4. Painted a mural at the National Institute of Arts
5. Collected 728 lbs of trash and hurricane debris from Mullet Bay Beach
As a loyal Princess cruiser (finally reached Elite!), I whole heartedly support this partnership between Princess and Fathom. All my cruises have been wonderful, but this one was truly life changing. I will definitely book future Fathom sailings on Princess.
There are 4 more sailings this year. If this sounds interesting to you, I highly recommend you check out https://www.fathom.org.
Sorry if I sound like a cheerleader or marketing department. I’m being sincere and would be glad to answer any questions.

Hi KCsealegs,
Glad to see new cruisers continue to add on the Fathom experience. I’ve sailed a couple of the Adonia trips and was hooked after my 1st trip same as you. Reforestation & helping lay concrete floors were my favorite experiences. I sailed in Jan when it was relaunched onboard Princess. It’s a great fit.

I’ll be sailing again with them in Aug. I’ve made several Fathom friends with both cruisers and the Fathom team. You should join up on the “Fathom alumni” page on F_book.

I can’t wait to go back 😬

Hi wiskt!

I hope you have a wonderful time on your upcoming cruise. I have to admit that I’m a little jealous! I have joined the Fathom alumni group as well as the group for my May 26 sailing. It’s been great to see the photos of our experiences, and I’m looking forward to seeing photos from the upcoming cruises. Have a great cruise!

KCsealegs...yes, you sound like a cheerleader for Fathom but so am I. On the Adonia twice and on Princess twice (1/2018 and 7/2018). We are Elite with Princess and are looking forward to our next Fathom experience.
