Charter to Jost Van Dyke from St. Thomas

Recommended Posts

Anyone ever book a private charter to White Bay on JVD BVI from St. Thomas? Will be arriving at 7am and leaving at 7pm on MSC Seaside. Other alternative would be the ferry from Red Hook. Will most likely have about 4 couples to split the cost. Want to spend the day at Soggy Dollar Bar

I booked caribbean blue charters ((340) 690-2583 caribbeanblueboatcharters@gmail.com boatrentalsvi.com) from St. Thomas. It was a 35' Marlin and should be able to take 8 adults.

It's easy to get to JVD...

....BUT St. Thomas is US Virgin Islands, JVD is Brittish Virgin Islands, so you will have to pay a custom fee.

As we were going to Tortola the next day we went to JVD from Tortola and did snorkeling at St. John from St. Thomas.

We stopped at Sandy Spit which is a small Island next to JVD.

I found the info from my booking Feb 2017.

They do go to JVD from St. Thomas but you need

your passports and $40/person custom fee.

It was $600/day but if you add a promo code(0100, for previous guest)

they take $100 off. The captain and gas are an additional cost.

They did have a driver for us but it was a open air "safari" vehicle.

Basically a pick-up truck with seats in the bed.

I decided to take a minivan as we had kids, not sure the minivan will

hold 8 of you.

I was on Norwegian. We docked at Charlotte Amalie/Havensight port

and had a 25-30 min ride to the marina.

Below are some details about your activity:

If your pick up location is our Idependent Marina, Please take the time to stop by the Food

Center grocery store located across the street from the marina, about 15 minutes before you

meet your captain at Carigas (located in Independent Marina) to purchase drinks and snacks.

There is a large cooler on the boat for your convenience.

YOU MUST HAVE A VALID PASSPORT IF VISITING BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS

Bring: towels, sunscreen (Lotion type only.), cash, water, drinks, and snacks. We will stop

places for lunch.

Please do not bring the following: glass bottles (please bring cans instead), red wine or spray

suntan lotions. If you have spray suntan lotions, please do not spray while on the boat. These

items will stain the boat. Thank you for your cooperation.

Boat Fee = $600 plus applicable processing fees- Caribbean Blue will charge the credit card

provided to us. Any discounts will be applied to reflect at that time.

Fuel = (Current Rate Approximately $3.80/Gal) – This will be charged to your credit card.

Captain = $150 – This is paid in “CASH” to the captain the day of the Charter. (Many people

ask about tipping the captain, it is customary based on how much service you feel you

received. Standard, is similar to the service industry, which would be 15% to 20% of the boat

fee.) Note: Please feel free to go on our website to review available captains under the

"About us" tab. www.boatrentalsvi.com

Customs = (1 to 5 people $45pp) (6 to 12 people $40 per person) – This is paid in “CASH” to

the captain the day of the Charter. (Please note: This is an average, the British customs

sometimes will charge a national park fee, British holiday fee or weekend fee. In this case the

Captain may need extra and he will be happy to show you the receipt when he comes out of

customs)

Cancellation Fee = A 7 day advance cancellation notice is required or everything minus fuel

and customs will be charged to the card. If you are making the reservation within the 7 day

cancelation period, it is considered confirmed at the time of booking.

Parking: Please ask your captain if where you parked is ok with the marina

Time and Place of Pick-up:

St. Thomas: Independent boat yard & Marina: Which is near Food Center located just before

Red Hook, St Thomas. 8:15am to 4:30pm. The Captain, will walk over to the Cariga’s (a

small restaurant in the marina) to meet you at 8:15am and guide you to the correct boat.

Please do not be concerned too early. The Captain is usually on the boat until 8:10am at

which time he/she walks over to Cariga’s to meet you.

St. John: National Park dock in Cruz Bay: Which is across from Mongoose junction. The

captain will meet you on the dock at 8:45. They usually try and be there at 8:40 but

sometimes other boats are on the dock. You will have there name texted to you the night

before. So, do not be concerned.

Cruise Ships: Please check to see where your cruise ship will dock in St. Thomas. We have 2

ports.

Havensite Dock (West Indian Co.): When you get off the ship, there is a small grocery store

named Gourmet Gallery that you can buy snacks and/or drinks at if you would like. A taxi

driver, Ali will meet you there, to bring you to our boats. His number is 340-642-5799. We do

ask you to please have your cell phones turned on for texting, so all of us can communicate,

to find each other. (Taxi is an additional charge paid, in cash, to Ali) Feel free to contact him

ahead of time for pricing. Our captain will also keep in contact with Ali to pick you up at the

boat and bring you back to your ship.

Crown Bay Dock: Our boat will meet you at the dock across the street from where your

cruise ship docks. It is about a 3 min walk. If you ask anyone where tickles is (a well know

restaurant in the marina) they will point you in the right direction. Our captain will meet you at

Gourmet Gallery in the marina, where you can buy snacks and/or drinks. The Marina charges

$40 total for pick up and drop off. (This will be charged to your credit card the day of the trip)

Please have your cell phone on for texting, so all of us can communicate.

Directions to the Marina:

From the Marriott: Turn left out of the resort and make a right at the stop sign onto Hwy 30.

Stay on Hwy 30 until you are forced to turn left or right. Turn right onto Hwy 32. Stay on Hwy

32 until you see the Food Center on the left. The Food Center is a large white concrete

building. Just after you pass food center you will see a sign for Budget Marine on your right.

Turn right there. The drive will fork immediately and you will go to the right. (Do not park at

budget marine) After the drive forks, stay on your left and drive down until you see a turn to

the right between the boats. You will turn right and see Carigas restaurant, on your left. Park

there and the Captain will be there soon. From the Marriott, it should take approximately 25

minutes.

If you are coming from somewhere else and need directions we will be more than happy to provide

them.

While you can do it, it is not as easy as the people who posted above want you to believe. On the way over you have to stop at Tortola to clear British customs. On the way back you have to go to St. John to clear US customs. It will take about 2.5 hours of travel time each way, and that is if customs is not backed up.

We have spent a lot of time on St. Thomas and never go to Jost, as it is just a pain to get there.
