Luggage X-Ray

Do they run carry-on luggage through an x-ray machine?

Do they run checked luggage through an x-ray machine?

Do plastic bottles of booze show up in x-ray machines? (If so- how do those rum-runner flasks overcome that?

Yes, everything is x-rayed, your big pieces as well as your carry-ons. The carry-ons are sent on a conveyer (sp) belt just like at the airports. The x-ray machine for your carry-ons is the same size as the ones at airports.

Coming back from an excursion last spring several of us stopped at a local market and bought some rum. Upon boarding the ship all of our things went through the x-ray machine, rum and all. Although there were crew members operating this area, no one had their rum taken away for the remainder of the cruise.

I always have at least on bottle of liquor in my checked luggage. It's never been broken or been taken away in 20+ cruises.

Why is it that if they are so against us bringing booze on board do they have a liquor store within 20 feet of the boarding area in the Old San Juan terminal? It goes through the x-ray machine no questions asked.

Carry-on goes through airport type carryon x-ray every time you board the ship.

Checked luggage goes through the same type of x-ray that the airports use for checked luggage. Don't put x-ray sensitive stuff in your checked baggage (such as film).

The x-ray machnes will pick up even the rum-runners, which I use, but they are looking for other things such as guns and knives and the thing with the rum-runner that will be most apparent will be the white plastic screw top. Glass and plastic bottles will also likely be ignored by Princess but with glass you do run the risk of breakage.
