Leaving cruise in Vancouver

Recommended Posts

We are taking a coastal cruise from San Diego to Vancouver in April next year. This will be the second leg of a B2B starting in Chile. We would like to take a motor coach tour from Vancouver to either Banff or Calgary. We would fly back to UK from there. Does anyone have any experience of this trip or know of a tour company we might contact. We have looked into the Rocky Mountaineer but it is outside of our budget given that this is a big trip. Thanks

Sorry, can't actually give a recommendation from personal experience (living here we've only done road trips in our own car to the rockies - and a car rental is certainly the cheapest and most flexible way to do it if at least one of you is willing to drive on the wrong side of the road...), but there are a few companies I'm aware of who sell vacations like this (weblinks below) and are associated with local/provincial tourism boards; it's not a guarantee of excellence, but it's at least a step toward being confident they don't totally suck;-)

Given this is a cruise forum, you'll have much better luck on a more general travel forum like TripAdvisor though - while some cruisers do of course add on land trips like you are, it's a small subset of cruisers: given how tiny a vacation allowance most Americans receive us locals field more questions about getting to the airport right after disembarkation than anything else!!!

Better Business Bureaus are also a solid source of general quality of service info about any company over here - you'll find out how many folks complain about them, how quickly and well they deal with complaints etc. Check out the folks below on TA & BBB.

Brewster rebranded recently as Pursuit, and have lots of Rockies options.

Key West are another long-time and large company specializing in this part of the world despite their stupidly-making-you-think-of-a-totally-different-region name.

The above pair are probably the biggest players in relatively short Rockies tours.

Some larger/more general travel companies that you will know from the UK - Trafalgar, Cosmos/Globus - all offer tours as well (and you'll be able to pay in GBP through their British operations if that gets you a better rate than paying in CAD/USD - we pick & choose which branch to go through to get the best rate when we book with these guys as we're expat Brits ourselves). Titan I think only have UK operations so you'd have to pay in GBP - and all of these guys do tend to longer trips, almost all over a week, so they may be too long if you just want a quick Rockies experience.
