Real tapas bar experience in Barca?

I like Cerveceria Catalana, Ciudad Condal and Taller de Tapas (I think there are 3 different locations of the latter, the one I like is the one at El Born). Enjoy!

Have been to Ciudad Condal 4 times now and like the location as well as the Tapas.

Hate to admit I'm ignorant, but I don't really understand what tapas are and how you order them. Are these small appetizers that are generally served in a bar or a restaurant? Is there a menu?

Do you make a lunch or dinner out of them? We'll be in Barcelona this year and would like to see what this is all about. Hopefully someone here will give me a run down on what/how/general prices, etc.
